When the paddle breaks you CAN get into the door. Press the recessed handle, it will unlatch the door, and the door will pop open a bit. Other than that, thank you for the video. It's so refreshing to see an actual informative video.

Is there a setting for this? I selected the setting that prevent automatic presentation of the door handles, but it didn't have this effect. Now, the car just presents the handles when I press the recessed handle. It doesn't unlock the door.

Just to clear it up. Water in the door is completely normal. Every car functions that way. The water that goes down the window usually goes down the door and there's drain holes in the bottom to let that water out. It's only an issue if the drain holes get filled. Also just to add it since I thought of it afterwards. You do not need to and it is not recommended to wrap electrical tape around those connectors. Those connectors are already waterproof connectors. Putting electrical tape around them just increases the chance of water sitting in the connector.

For information: you don't have to take the window clamp off, just loosen the bolta little, and lift window enough by hand, and you are able to remove the door handle assembly. Saves a lot of trouble and steps.

Just an FYI. There is an option to turn off the self presenting handles completely and open the doors manually by pressing the handle. It is no different when the handle fails. Just use it manually.

You made that job look like a 3 cause meal. Tip… lock door raise window up just the right amount to undo that middle screw. You lock the door using a screwdriver to push lock when door open. Tip two. Use masking tape on the door shinny bits. Tip 3, get your son to help you out more. We can always do with another set of hands.

It wasn't clear (to me) how to remove the outside large chrome trim part. Did you pry it up, a screw, a clip, ...... ? How?

Freakin dealer always works on yr Car and does crap to it…that’s why I learned this stuff and thank God for KZfaq and people doing this stuff….cuz if you are a lil handy or want to learn to be , you can make sure its done right and not be at the mercy of some who could give 2 shits that you paid your hard earned money for a car.

Right real door handle on my 2014 model S won’t present. Just happened about 1 hour ago. I took the car to car wash yesterday - not sure if that did the damage. This video is helpful.
