DIY CNC Router Build - RoboCNC X2 (RCNCX2)
In this video I’m placing the guides and bearings for the X axis.
In top of these I place the gantry of the CNC, so the Y axis.
The drivetrain will be done in a separate video.
In deze video plaats ik de lineaire geleiding en lagers op de X as.
Daarna plaats ik de brug, de Y-as, of de X as.
De aandrijving van het geheel zal worden besproken in separate video’s

EDIT, I removed some Blah Blah spouting of exuberance. Love the high wall to reduce gantry mass and binding forces. I had no idea this was possible to drill and tap the profile in such a way to frame up like a stud wall . Truly eye popping moment. we will be in touch soon. Best regards. PS liked and subbed Regards, C

Great machine ! I am sure You will have a lot of fun with it. It is always hard to set left and right X rails to be parallel. INMHO You should tighten the screws at 5:33 to let its adjust by itself. Will You set one or two X axis ballscerws ?
@RoboCNCnl
@RoboCNCnl 8 жыл бұрын
Hi, thanks for watching and the comment...... Well IYHO you are basically right... And I should have said so in the video.... In my case the bolt holes where CNC made, and really tight, so the are aligned absolutely fine. nevertheless I could have included that in the video... The X axis will be driven by two zero backlash rack and pinion systems (with a double pinion). Stay tuned (ar search for a preview on instagram / facebook)

I've seen people adjust the rail so they measure it only to the next rail as the profile you're using are not exactly precise. I'm not sure what's the best method. Unless you've used precision ground extrusions. Also what's your take on the Clearpath servo's ? Love the build so far. Really considering getting into it.
@RoboCNCnl
@RoboCNCnl 7 жыл бұрын
Follow the one you feel is the best Jannes :) but indeed, you have to assume something, or have a giant measuring table. I have had this advice when talking to a machine builder, who jade done testing on these profiles. They are not ground, but the error is quite low. Anyway, it also depends on what you try to accomplish of course.
@toymaker3474

i wouldnt "bend" the rails to the extrusion. rails are ground to pretty high tolerances ; extrusion can be off over .001" per foot

It's 2019. Time for an upgrade to x3 series . Using the newer controllers like masso or centroid acorn.
@RoboCNCnl
@RoboCNCnl 5 жыл бұрын
I do not agree that that would be an upgrade... The machine is making its money, so no need to upgrade to a new model, For me its about using the machine not building it..

Nice design, but how do you know that the extrusions are straight? Aligning the rail to the side of the extrusion does not guarantee that it will run straight. I would use a precision straight edge here.
@RoboCNCnl
@RoboCNCnl 5 жыл бұрын
And where would you put the precision straight edge on..? where is your assumption.... (By the way, i talk about this subject in the video)
@librarymark
@librarymark 5 жыл бұрын
@@RoboCNCnl I'd put the straight edge against the rail. And I would not set the rail directly on the extrusion. I'd have it on a piece of flat stock and that would set on the extrusion.

Hi RoBo , I am new to your work shop, I am very impressed with your work, I am thinking of making or buying a CNC router for slab resin and wood projects later in the year, did you buy a purpose built Machine or did have someone make the components for you, Or did you order the Rail and track cut to a pacific size on line, then assemble yourself, PHIL FROM THE DARK SIDE OF THE MOULIN FRANCE.
@RoboCNCnl
@RoboCNCnl Жыл бұрын
Hi Phil, For your work you can debate if you need a CNC router. Just rails and a router to flatten everything would be an option. Anyway, take a look in the rest of my videos to find the answers to your questions. The machine is build in house.

@@RoboCNCnl Hi 👋, thank you for your reply, yes I have been looking, very interesting, if I can get the The materials I think I might have a go myself I’ve seen lots of bits and pieces online, I did say something I think it was made in Canada that was very interesting the other day on KZfaq good Inc three devices a router head , 300 wide planer , 300 drum sander . With a very heavy pricetag I think It was over $40,000. But this will be a project for later in the year as I’ve got to finish doing my garage floor and the roof on it, it’s more a renovation project than anything else, Thanks for the info, And I did manage to find you works details you’ve got some interesting projects, stay safe, PHIL FROM THE DARK SIDE OF THE MOULIN FRANCE.

Listen to what I say in the videos Phil, it is all explained… in short, long ball screws will not work due to any inertia and vibration.

The precision linear guideway is exposed to dust. Any way to protect them.
@RoboCNCnl
@RoboCNCnl 5 жыл бұрын
MySchizo I use dry lubes to prevent dust from sticking. This reduces life of the bearings, but that’s the concession to make. There is no way to prevent dust from getting their.
@Z-add

@@RoboCNCnl looked at the design of cncrouter parts. They have the linear guide mounted on the side of the extrusion and cover is attached on the top of the extrusion. Essentially covering the linear guide from direct dust.

why do you put the trolley in a straight line to the aluminum profile, I'm not a professional, but rather the profile is crooked compared to the guide which has some tolerances ... which means you bend the guides. In parallel, it should be with the second guide.
@RoboCNCnl
@RoboCNCnl 3 жыл бұрын
The profile is the straightest part in the build, so bending the rail straight. And then making the next one parallel.

After 12 years using CNC I'm quite sure i can deside wich axis i will use as X and Y :) . But since you are here to learn.... It's totally up to you, or the way you operate the machine... X goes from left to right, and Y moves away from you, so from where do you look at, and operate the machine..

Hello, I just made my CNC and on my first test something does not seem right. The CNC uses 2.2 KW air cooled spindle at 300 Hz speed. and a Makita drill bit with one cutting teeth as you can see in the picture from the end of my video. Could you please explain why do I have that whistle noise when it cuts? Also the spindle motors is getting very hut, after the cut I could barely hold my hand on it? Cut federate is 800 . The diameter of the drill bit is 6mm. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/mtmCfrWmmNascqs.html

nice build but there is no way your gantry weighs 150kg, I use the same item 80*160 profile @1.8m long and mines filled with silica sand and if also has a steel plate bolted to it and it weigh around 80-90kg.
@RoboCNCnl
@RoboCNCnl 8 жыл бұрын
That was not what i said... I said "everything you see here is about 150kg" So the base, and the gantry, plus all of its parts..) Btw, do you think your decision of filling it with sand (a lot of extra inertia) is a smart thing to do? I think It would only be a good thing for the base (non moving parts).
@PATCHOCKES
@PATCHOCKES 8 жыл бұрын
+RoboCNC Frees- & Graveerwerk ah ok. I filled all my extrusion with silica sand, the sides, slats, risers and gantry and it was the best thing I ever did. it's taken all the harmonics or of it. the extrusion used to have a ring to it, now it's solid and doesn't ring and it's taken abit of the vibration out of it, to combat the inertia I just adjusted the velocity and acceleration in mach, it still works fine at 25m per min for rapids, I used epoxy to cap the ends so if i didn't like it I could just drop through the epoxy and pour the sand out but I will be leaving it as it performs much better and dampens the machine.
@RoboCNCnl
@RoboCNCnl 8 жыл бұрын
Yes I can imagine the extra mass will change the harmonic frequency for the better. But I doubt it's the best thing for the moving parts like the gantry. Most people talk about there G0/rapid speed, I personally don't care about that at all, when will you ever machine at 25m/min? The acceleration is very very important for me. especially for 3D work this is where the time gets lost... Anyway, If you had vibration issues you have to comprise, but i hope I don't have to...
@PATCHOCKES
@PATCHOCKES 8 жыл бұрын
+RoboCNC Frees- & Graveerwerk I never really had vibration issues. I just wanted to bulk it up. I am running nema 34 on all axis with a 3:1 great reduction, I agree about rapids but I do cut some things at 12m per min and it's nice having the extra mass when doing that, it's made a huge difference in milling aluminum.
