Yey ! A youtube instructor from EDMONTON ... I am excited!!! I will go to their location to check out their physical location! I never realised their were knitting instructors in EDMONTON. I always though that these sorts of clubs speciality shops exist in the STATES and other “major” and “famous” metropolitan cities... I consider my absolute beginner in knitting and I fell in LOVE with this hobby when I broke my leg in 2017. I discovered a set of needles and some yarn from my mom. Then I KZfaqd “ how to knit”. I caught on the basic movements required. It is surprisingly amazing how a set of needles and a strand of yarn can help in alleviating pain(physical/emotional) Anxiety, Stress, and Depression. It is always a good feeling to see people representing the same city we are from.. I find it surprising how numerous people from English speaking countries have never heard about EDMONTON Alberta (“the city of champions”). To see someone demonstrating a hobby that is from Edmonton Alberta makes me feel very happy. Thank you!

Thanks for the great tutorial. I notice almost all mitten patterns have us cast on 1 or more stitches after putting the thumb gusset stitches on a yarn holder. Would it work just as well to do an increase in the hand portion in first round of the thumb gusset, adding the "live" stitch back that was used in the gusset?

I just can't believe it! I am trying to knit these mittens using DPNs and found your video. I started one mitten but had to frog it because I didn't have enough yarn for 2 mittens, so I have found additional yarn and want to try again. I love this pattern too. While I do like using DPNs, I am wanting to learn to make these mittens using the magic loop method. I have reviewed other videos showing the magic loop method, but I would prefer a video applied directly to Tin Can's pattern. Could you please make another how-to make mittens using the magic loop method video and maybe for 2 mittens at a time? Thank you in advance for your time.

@Yarniversity
@Yarniversity 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Roberta. You might have to review the video a few times to get it. And sometimes you just have to try it on to figure it out. You might get a thumb that's too short or too long. It's okay... you can pull it back a bit and put it back on your needles and do it again.

Exceptional video! I am just trying to learn.. one question; if you are straight knitting in the body of the mitten, how is it it looks like stockinette stitch,which i thought was knit one row and purl one row.?
@Yarniversity
@Yarniversity 2 жыл бұрын
When you knit in the round, you never "turn" your work, so you get stockinette stitch just by knitting. No purling required.

I'm going to try this pattern. Going to do it with magic loop. Looks like i need to use 4mm needles to meet gauge. Edit: decided to make an in the round swatch. Turns out i meet gauge with the recommended needle size on magic loop. Making a large. Which part of my hand do I measure for sizing? Measured the the thickest part of my hand and I got 8 inches.
@Yarniversity
@Yarniversity 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Oscar, sorry about the late response. You'll measure around your hand, with your tape measure above your thumb joint and below your knuckles. So, around the widest part of your hand, not including your thumb. I hope that makes sense!
@kt.redacted1401
@kt.redacted1401 Жыл бұрын
Having two sizes of needles makes sense unless it's 7 and 9; or 8 and 10. With super fine yarn I don't thinks those are the choices. Any hints?
@Yarniversity
@Yarniversity Жыл бұрын
Hi there. Use the needle that gets "gauge" or makes your mittens fit nicely, then find a needle that is one or two holes down on your needle gauge for the cuff. If you're working with a superfine yarn, you might be using a US 2 / 2.75mm needle and the smaller one would be a US 1 or 0 (2.25mm or 2.0mm) needle. Does that help?

Hello I hope my message finds you well. I was wondering whether you have a basic beginner friendly tutorial on how to easily: 1- identify the types of stitches(increase, decrease, KNIT and PURAL stitches, etc..) That are on the needle(reading the physical work). 2- read the basic theory (EXAMPLE: What ABBREVIATIONS, GRAPHS, CHARTS, PATTERNS, interpret specific instructions,) 3- understand colour working charts 4- overall video about understanding basic written theory for the techniques used for any project. Irrelevant Analogy: Sort of like how Music teachers reserve a class for music-theory only, to make the student learn how to read sheet-music or music theory (notes, abbreviations, chords combinations etc) to make it easy to read any sheet of music. ------------------ Personal feedback/suggestion: Like many inexperienced or ‘beginner-self-taught’ knitters, a lot of us are very Auditory and visual learners. Me Being one of those people, I struggled visually while you were demonstrating how to manipulated the stitches(example picking stitches, decreases increases, waste yarn method, etc.). The reason was because of the dark coloured yarn you used in the video. Whenever you have a chance to make another tutorial, can you consider demonstrating with a brighter vibrant colour and use contrasting colours to teach a particular (‘new’) technique. other than my visual struggle way you explained everything was phenomenal. I think you are a very learnéd person and an expert teacher for beginner students. I have searched for video that teach the theory aspect of knitting but the sometimes I lose focus because the instructor tends to switch the subject and unnecessary talking, loud background music. I loved how your instructions were clear and concise. And also, I appreciated how you stuck with the topic/subject with no unnecessary side chatter or loud background music. Thank you

I don't know, but sometimes I think that they did it so if you're using a light coloured yarn you'll have at least three needles to contrast and if you're using a dark coloured yarn, you'll have three needles to contrast so you can better see your stitches. Maybe that's it; maybe not.
