Yes, Director Adrian Maben actually lost the reels of the other performers footage so this song mainly focuses on, because there was no choice, drummer Nick Mason. Rock on!!

You really have to listen to the whole Gdańsk concert - just for me the best Pink Floyd live ever even though it’s David and Rick and also Guy Pratt who replaced Roger plus Phil Manzanera from Roxy. For me it’s the best ECHOES and the last time David played it. Rick died shortly after and David said he would never play it again. Gdańsk pretty much revisits the whole PF back catalogue as well as the best of Davids subsequent work. That amphitheatre is magnificent by the way. Incidentally I introduced the band in Norwich the first time they played the whole Meddle album as a warm up for their ‘world premiere’ on BBC Radio

If by prog rock, you mean concept albums, literary lyrics, and mixed time signatures, check out *The Warning.* These 3 young sisters were raised on piano lessons and classic rock music videos before taking on the guitar, bass, and drums. They are all sponsored by big names (Sabian, PRS, and Spector is producing a Signature Series bass in the name of their 16 year old bassist). Queen of the Murder Scene is their 2nd album and traces the descent of a girl from love to obsession, stalking, murder, and then the battle against her evil side for her soul. 'Dust to Dust' is the intro, and features an additional surprise.

Nick Mason is such an underrated drummer and this showcases him at his best. Love this reaction. I could be wrong but I've always thought Animal from the muppets was modeled after Nick Mason. If I'm not mistaken one of the band members in the Muppets was named Floyd, so I'm betting Jim Henson was a fan. lol
@RDMusicExchange2 жыл бұрын
Ha! Could be! Thanks for watching - glad you liked it. Lots more Floyd to come!
@MrTech2262 жыл бұрын
I just read that Animal's creator stated, by the way, it is not Jim Henson, one of his crew created Animal, drumming style is Zeppelin's Bonham, The Who's Keith Moon, and Cream's Ginger Baker. But like you stated here, Nic Mason possibly influenced the creation of Animal.

I'm always glad to stumble across folks who appreciate great musicianship. I love the energy of Pink Floyd and the way they are able to take you on a journey (having been a teenager in the 60's, it was always quite the journey). As an aging Canuck, I would really like to hear your take on one of my favourite groups - Rush. In particular, I'd love it if you'd take on Rush doing YYZ (and, yeah, that's zed) Live in Rio.

Thanks man! Glad you liked it. Got a few other Floyd vids, as well as some Genesis and Yes ones that you might like. Rush is a bit of a blind spot for me (I know, I know), but will check out XYZed :) Thanks for watching -lots more to come.

I disagree completely with your underrated assessment. From everything I have ever read of opinions THAT MATTER, Nick is very much appreciated.

@@Wolverines77 Hi, firstly, chill, we are all on the same side here - we all love Nick Mason. My point is that when is comes to conversations about "great" drummers (and that usually means technical drummers who do lots of tricky time signature changes etc - which is something that Nick didn't do a great deal of - yes I know Money is 7/8) he's often not in the same conversation as the likes of Bruford, Peart, Collins, Carey, Cobham etc. He didn't even make the Top 100 Drummers of All time in Rolling Stone (which is criminal!) www.rollingstone.com/music/music-lists/100-greatest-drummers-of-all-time-77933/alex-van-halen-35562/ So yes, he's underrated. The point of me using this video is to show what a great drummer is was. Hope that clears things up. Thanks for watching.
@Wolverines77 Жыл бұрын
Well, I can say that this version is "driven" by the drums and the crashing cymbals as compared to later (far more popular) versions. I have not watched the full concert at Pompeii since around 1990. It is a little short for me as well, the intensity of the music lends itself to be a 10 or 15 minute song. Jokingly, years later I started calling it the "O.J. Simpson song" (based on the single line of lyrics)...

Nice choice and reaction. On this at the start Dave Gilmour shows his versatility playing the early bass riffs. Also a song in which Nick Mason sings ,one of very few that is ,his voice is purposefully muffled on the track. I Prefer the Live at Pulse version !

just a little tip: trebble bleeds from phones into mic in a out of phase phasing effect that kills the quality of the music. maby use some kind of noise-gating on your microphone.
@RDMusicExchange2 жыл бұрын
Hi, Sorry about the phasing, there was a mistake in the set up and I was actually recording the audio twice, hence the phasing effect. Sort now. Cheers

Love the reaction. Unusual choice for the track, but I've always appreciated this version, although I think the 70s tech is maybe a bit distracting. On the other hand, Nick Mason, though perhaps not at the top of the drumming heap, is one of the most underrated drummers of his time (along with Ringo Starr, who was much more proficient than he got credit for). Great story about the bus, btw.
@RDMusicExchange2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Michael! Yeah, I'm trying to vary it up a bit an not just do the same vids/tracks as everyone else. And this always brings me back to spending evenings with my mates watching this concert (and the DSOTM behind the scene bits) over and over :) Thanks for the continued support! Cheers

Anyone who can ADD to any song by Pink Floyd by playing the drums is easily in the Top 10. I have been watching Nick playing with his new group Saucerful of Secrets (well into his mid to late 70's) and the man hasn't lost a beat. I cannot even imagine the fan consensus greatest drummers even being a part of Pink Floyd.

The MOST original band of all time. They sound like no other band and no band sounds like them. They are classified as "rock", only because they use the same instruments. Doesn't sound "rock"..... at all. Not like The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Who, Cream, Hendrix, etc..... They are all ALONE.
