Learning about dyes and leather has been fascinating! I wondered how the dye didn’t come off while conditioning. I assumed wax polish was what helped dye the shoes. I dye fabric, and I’m glad you explained the process for applying dye to leather. I didn’t know conditioning wasn’t the same thing as polishing. Thanks for the education! 👍🏼

Back in the 60s, we took all our penny loafers (we went to Catholic school) to an Italian cobbler near our home. Last November, I was back home and decided to see if it was still in business. Mr Amelio had long since passed away but his son (who I went to high school with) is now running the shop. He put new heel lifts on a pair of Dexter loafers. Cost only $25 and they look like new. I wish we could go back to the time when people repaired things rather than toss them out.

Hey Steve, I started watching your videos about a year ago and I greatly appreciate your passion for your trade and admire it. You inspired me to search for local cobblers and take my collection of very expensive shoes to get repaired. Today I dropped off my first pair and as I left I hoped the gentleman shares the passion you have and take the time and love in the work just as you do. So all that being said made me want to post a comment to let you know your videos are great and keep up the good work. I look forward to possibly using you in the future for my shoes.

Bedo referred me to a shoe repairer here in Ontario. The shoes had crappy soles of rubber that fell apart after one wear. Uppers were in great shape, nearly new, and he did a fantastic job. This guy said Bedo was pretty much a guru for those who took pride in their work.

Well not all. Sometimes it's called "wear and tear". Sometimes uncontrolled events happen like probably something what they call "accidents". Also, sometimes nature does not agree with man and it sometimes gives us what we call "rain" which contains what we call "water". When its gets in our shoes, it wreaks havoc. It happens you know...

Great video. I don't think there is anything wrong with breaking videos down into sections. It allows you to get more videos posted. Also, you mentioned making sure to to do things to both shoes at the same time. I would be willinh to bet that differences in humidity and barometric pressure come into play when dying and conditioning leathers at different times. I'm no scientist, but it just makes sense that the same leather would react differently to products in different atmospheric conditions. Just something to think about....

I always appreciate for all your shoe restoration videos. So satisfying. Quick question; how can I know the upper is "done" done? Like even if resole, replace the welt, shank and etc, because the upper is totally dead the shoes is unable to recover. Have you ever seen any uppers like that? I know when there are huge holes on them, yeah the shoes are over, but is there other signs that the goodyear welt shoes cannot be recovered at all because of upper's damage?

Hi, I would like to ask, do you have any experience with stripping and re-dyeing black shoes to something lighter? I got a great deal on black Barker Newcastles, but thinking about it now, I am not a black shoe guy. Sure I am not gonna get tan, but how about dark brown or burgundy? If possible, what colour dye would you use? I know I could sell them, but I actually crave for some DIY. Btw, I love your channel, you are incredibly skilled but also fun to watch as an entertainer.
