My wheel bearings were shot and didn't have the the tool on hand to change them out so I repacked the ball bearings with water proof grease to try and get a bit more life out of them.

Jonathan Glanville yeah that’s what I run but they usually go out around 100 hours without any greasing.

Once a year but if the grease still has its colour. I leave it alone. My dad is a lubrication specialist. I only run Castrol piroplex blue waterproof grease. This stuff is gnarly if you get it on your hands. Don't expect it to wash off unless you use a solvent or fuel. More water the more sticky it gets. AWESOME STUFF

Really good idea to pull apart all moving bearing points and grease. IVE NEVER SEEN A NEW MX BIKE WITH GREASED PIVOTS OR HEADSET BEARINGS. not once since the 80s. There's a tiny bit of grease but nowhere near enough

I tap out wheel bearings from the opposite side. I use a length of 5/8ths round rod cut sharp. Tap tap tap and they come right out. New bearing I keep in the freezer for a few days or weeks before the replacement happens. So trick is get the old bearing out. Prep the hub. Warm the hub with a heat gun, and run the bearing from the freezer to the hub n drop it in. If your fast the bearing drops right to bottom out. If your slow you gotta tap it in the rest of the way. Carry the bearing between 2 ice packs helps to so your hand doesn't warm it while running. In 39 years riding I've learn a trick or 2

When you remove the old bearings take one and cut a line in the outer race. Toss the inner race and bearing away and keep that outer. Smaller then a socket and drives the new bearings in perfectly. Easy to keep in your travel kit!

I removed/installed all the bearings in my bike with no special tools. Swingarm, linkage and connecting arm, wheel, rear shock, etc. All you need is sockets, rubber mallet, some heat and a couple KZfaq vids for additional confidence knowing you're doing it right!(or know others are doing it wrong successfully with you😂). I know you said you didn't have the right size socket so I don't blame you for playing it safe! Much respect. Love the content as always Holmes!

What I do is use the outer race of the old bearing on top of the new bearing and hit that with the mullet. Take a hacksaw or grinder and make a slot thru the race before you use it. That way it’s easier to get the old race out after the new bearing is seated.

the spacers that all balls sell with the steel surface that runs along the seal area are a good idea , stops the oem spacer wearing out and dirt getting in

Every industrial bearing supply store has the bearings we use in stock. Lots of these bearings are used in many machines. I fixed a ktm 500 exc for a guy passing through massey. His bearing was toast. I used a bearing out of a YAMAHA snowmobile idle wheel to get him running. Same part number. 6202 or 6204 part number

I let stock bearings go till they die (usually 50-70 hours depending on riding conditions and use of pressure washer which I use only for the worst mud), then when I replace them I pack the crap out of them and the dust seals with grease. The greased set lasts well over 100 hours!

Timkins bearing course I took suggested over greasing a bearing causes the balls to skid there for wearing the balls n races faster. I did always grease the snot out a them to. Now I install and waterproof grease the dust seals with Castrol piroplex blue, waterproof grease that get stickier when water touches it. Friggin stuff is a bastard to get off your hands. Great joke for friends lol. Grease their hand.. 2 hands together to do a tacky test... then pour water on his hands n tack test... shit will not wash off. Use diesel or wd40 or varsol to clean your hands. Ya that good.

Dude, waterproof grease! Seriously it makes a huge difference. I went from getting 3-4 months out of a set to a year. I pack my new bearings when I put them in but I don't ever repack as once they start rattling around they are done anyway. Also once the wheel seal comes off it's compromised and will let water in.

PNW Enduro yeah I used waterproof grease here. How many hours is 3-4 months or a year?

I do about 120 engine hours a year. I also use and sell NTN bearings which are as good as OEM. The cheap Chinese bearings like All Balls are not worth buying in my experience.

Castrol piroplex blue. Is a amazing waterproof grease that becomes more tacky when water comes in contact. My father is a lubrication specialist. This stuff is so hard to get off your hands. The wetter it gets the more mess your hands are. Wd40 or varsol or diesel fuel to clean your hands. Try it out. Its funn lol. I run NTN too.

Turn the wheel spacer upside down and hit with mallet. It’s the same size so will push it in straight

Something to maybe look at on your 19. My Bikes an 18 I just went to regrease. I haven’t touched them since the bike was new and I’ve been in a lot of mud and water. My seals look different then yours and when I took it apart to regrease there wasn’t a speck of dirt or moisture in the bearing the grease still looked brand new.

140 hours on my 18 501 and i've checked them twice (just did them again) and both times they were immaculate inside. no dirt, grease looks great, etc. I go through mud too semi-often. Cool for us I guess.

Great vid. That slalom up that ravine was baller! Going on 50 hrs on mine and haven’t bothered with the bearings yet. Do you have good success reinstalling the old seal? My experience on cars and trailers is that the seal is toast once you’ve pulled it out. It always gets tweaked.

Ever had any issues packing wheel bearings full on a dirtbike? They get pretty stiff when you fill them.
