Hello guys,
In this video I have tried to explain the process of chain slack adjustment.
This is not a professional grade video I am just another random owner like you.
The process is almost same for other motorcycles.
Tools needed.(Also present in the kit)
1 Size 24 spanner for axle bolt.
2 Two size 12 open end spanners for adjustments.
3 Something to lock the front brake like a small rope.
4 Block of wood to keep under the side stand.
5 Ruler or tape measure to measure the slack.
Process.
Always measure the slack with the rear wheel on the ground and swingarm bearing the weight of the motorcycle. This is the correct slack, as if you measure and adjust the slack on the unloaded swingarm then most of that slack would be eaten as soon as you put the bike off the center stand.
Recommended slack is 20 to 30 mm(Refer your manual) , I keep it at the maximum range, too tight chain would put unwanted stress on the chain set and too lose would slap around and make noise.
1 loosen the axle bolt as much as it allows the axle to move.
2 Make note of adjustment marks on the chain side then open the locking nut and make adjustment with the inner or adjuster nut.
3 turn the adjuster nut clockwise/ inward to make it tight.
4 turn the adjuster nut anticlockwise / outward to make it lose.
5 do quarter of a turn and measure.
6 after getting the desired slack tighten the locking nut and make note of the adjustment markings.
7 now follow the same process on the other side(Right) and make sure marking on the swingarm matches to have a balanced swingarm. This side you can do on the main stand.
8 Tighten the Axle bolt.
9 to double sure measure and match the remaining thread on the adjusters on both sides.
Hope this helps you guys.

Hello. I recently had my first rear tyre puncture fixed. But after the installation of the wheel, I noticed a minor wobble of the rear wheel when ran on center stand. I then checked the chain slack and found it to be too tight. I watched your video and adjusted the chain slack. But, there seems to be something off about my axle wheel alignment. I mean, the axle bolt (right side part i.e. the nut part) is not at the extreme end of the swingarm cut-window. The left side part of the axle is at the extreme end, though. Is it normal or do I need to push the axle (right side part) a little forward? And, could u tell what the dot on both the adjusters mean? The adjusters have many lines and those do not seem to be matching each other. How should I adjust/match them??
@ijs_diy
@ijs_diy 2 жыл бұрын
@@EmotionalCat0_0 yes u need to straighten the axel rod if it is going cross ways. Best way is to match the right side marking after adjusting the slack from the left side, u need to release the axel bolt. And to double check the alignment u can measure the remaining length of the adjuster bolts screw part like i showed in the video. Now while tightening the axel bolt u need to be careful as the axel mostly slips the again goes cross, so tight it slowly and when reaching the end hold the axel marking slot or axel so that it won't move. For the dots - i didn't get u if u mean by any painted dot on the bolt then it would be the factory marking of mac torque while arranging the thing for first, If u mean dot in the marking lines the it denotes the middle of the adjustment scope. Mild wobble will always be noticeable in the disc/ rotor when u rotate the wheel by hand and the steel/ almunium spokes rims can not be 100 percent true.

@@ijs_diy Thank u for replying. The last para of ur comment brought me some relief lol. I will straighten the axle rod out by today itself. I did measure the adjuster bolts on both sides and they were of the same length after tightening the axle nut. I'll definitely try going slow with tightening the axle nut while straightening it. And yes, I did mean the dots on the lines. I'm still confused how the lines really work. I mean there is no reference point to count the lines from the beginning. How do u decide which is the first line? How do u match the mark with the lines? Suppose I need to match the third line with the swingarm mark. But, because the adjuster scope is oval, sometimes there is a line half visible (looks like a small line) . So does it count while matching the third line or do I skip and count the next fully visible line as the 1st one?? Please tell me how do u match the mark and the lines?
@ijs_diy
@ijs_diy 2 жыл бұрын
@@EmotionalCat0_0 no don't skip count the lines as they are. For more clear view open the whole thing once and see how many markings are there on both sides.

Easy way to keep the chain tensioners tight when tightening the axle is to place a piece of cloth between chain and rear sprocket, them move the bike forward tighten the axle, then remove the cloth an check the chain slack .Thanks for sharing the video .

A good check of correct movement on both sides is to measure the thread of the adjusters. I have always found the marks on the swinging arm to be good but as years go by they can become less clear to see. Your idea of checking the thread length of the adjuster bolts is a good one.

Post that i have removed the rear wheel few times it is easy to do it on second attempt. Would try to shoot again next time and same fir front wheel.

I will try as soon as i get hand on a interceptor, i no longer own one. Though it is easy to do.
@ijs_diy
@ijs_diy 6 ай бұрын
Here are the steps to do it. Sit on the bike measure the height of the headlight from the centre of the bulb to ground should be around 900mm Now place white cloth on a flat wall and keep bike 12.6 ft distance from the wall Make a mark on the wall at the same height as the bike headlight which y measure earlier , this will be our zero point Now make a mark 50 mm below this mark Now one more mark on the wall at 110mm Now switch on low beam Low beam or main beam should be between 50mm and 110mm mark. If not then Loosen the headlight holder bracket bolts on both side of headlight and move it up and down with you have to point the beam in the perfect range or as per your liking. You can do it as per your liking without the markings. No horizontal adjustment possible here only vertical one we can do.

Instead of tiying the front brake can I put it on 1st gear or will it affect the chain adjustment process?

We need to lock the front wheel , puting it in gear will only lock rear and also put the chain in bit of a tension so perfect slack will not be achieved.

hi Inderjeet Can you please post a video on how to set the idle rpm for the interceptor/gt 650.
@ijs_diy
@ijs_diy 4 жыл бұрын
Manual idle control is not needed and recommended for electronic fuel injection engines as it is ecu controlled. The idle in our Motorcycle is set at 1200 once the engine is warmed up. But still there are hacks to set it manually there is a hex bolt or normal flat head screw on top of throttle body near the injector which can be use to set idle and there are manual idler extenders available for Motorcycles like triumph etc (not available in India). I haven't looked into throttle body as of now but would definitely look into it and make a video if it is possible to do it manually with ease. Currently busy with home renovation once done with it I would look into it and update you.
