Yay!!! I'm so glad you didn't quit!!! We need you to keep creating this fabulous content. Even if your "job title" might sometimes change from profitable flower farmer to bunny defeated flower farmer, you're still a soil advocate, microbe farmer and content creator and we are all here cheering you along the journey and wish you the best success. You got this ❤

Rabbits, birds and chipmunks ate 90% of everything last yr and are worse this season in my garden! I feel the frustration and pain of loss time, energy, money and plants. 💔 I keep at it and it is helpful to see you are too. Thanks once again

Well done, keep fighting. I work as a gardener & recognise it's a war out there, we fight the weather, even the customers some times - oops, the pets - oops, rabbits, deer, insects you name it. You'll have a black belt in gardening one day. I would prioritise whatever measures are required to keep the wildlife at bay. Good luck & thanks for sharing.

Try putting paving slabs under the line of the closed gate. Rabbits seem to be on the increase at the moment. Next spring check the line of the fence for holes. One rabbit can cause so much trouble but you can get the measure of them. You are doing such a great job.

I’m so glad you’re sticking with it Sarah. I’m only a hobbie gardener and have just taken on an allotment where my plants and veg have been ravaged by rabbits. It’s absolutely heartbreaking when you’ve put so much effort into growing things. I’ve made it as secure as I can with wire fencing but what I’ve also done is a perimeter fence of lavender and lemon balm as I’ve heard they don’t like the smell of these plants. Maybe you could try this for next year but on a bigger scale. Deb in Yorkshire.

I’m new here so this is probably a dumb suggestion but have you tried burying wire mesh/ hardware cloth around the perimeter. I think that’s how most people keep chickens safe in the coop so it might help 🤷🏼‍♀️ I wish you all the luck you seem like a nice person who deserves a break.

In a London garden, I plant out my Zinnia seedlings and maybe 50 percent survive and don't get eaten or damaged by snails, slugs and squirrels. Then last week, someone came to mow the lawn and mowed down the poppies to the ground. Sigh....

I’m so sorry this year has been so difficult. I’m just a home gardener but I fight the deer, woodchucks, rabbits, etc. This year a woodchuck and a rabbit have been decimating my plants. I’m trying to trap them and relocate them- I’m in a development and not allowed to shoot them. We do have a hawk who lives here and we saw him in a tree close by today. Fingers crossed 🤞🏻 that nature takes care of it.

‘Onwards and upwards’ Sarah. You’re doing an amazing job and such an inspiration to us. Life is certainly good at throwing us s**t to deal with, but go stand in the middle of your field and have a good old scream, the louder the better, you’ll feel good afterwards, and you might even scare off those pesky rabbits!!😂 ❤

Possibly keeping a dog out in the flower field will keep the rabbits at bay? He would have to be an extra good boy though as to not trample the seedlings😉 Keep going girl. You are too invested to give in now. Hugs from California❤

Hi fellow flower farmer! Some stuff that might help with the rabbits that came to mind, what about using blood meal and sprinkling around? They don't like the smell, it makes them think there is danger. Or how about growing a "trap crop". So like, plantings a garden that has lots of stuff in it for the rabies to eat away from the flower crop? If they have other things to eat they might leave yours alone? I haven't done this for rabits but I do plant plants that bugs prefer to eat over my dahlias and other things. A cantaloupe plant will attract all the cucumber Beatles as they prefer it over my flowers. Something like that! But for bunnies? Best of luck! Keep at it! I know how hard it is! Im just recovering from a bulging disk that had me immobile for a few days and I had no idea how I was supposed to keep my flower business up when my back is legit breaking but I'm healing, and everything is ok and learning to take care of my back more and hey, its just another bump in the road! We got this!

I keep wondering why this year of all years for the persistent rabbits. Is there another food source that got shut down? Are there so many this year because food was so good for them last year? Maybe they, with their incredible sense of smell, pick up on particular brix numbers the way insects do and since this is a new field, your plants and soil haven't had a chance to build up good sugar numbers. I don't know. It's a real win to have improved your soil in your other fields. FANTASTIC WORK!!! I'm sending hopeful thoughts and rooting for you!

Is there a space on your farm that you could dedicate to feeding the rabbits? Maybe a few rows of black oil Sunflowers & seeds that would entice them to that area instead? That’s what we do and it helps quite a bit.

In order to rabbit proof you need to have Rob bury barbed wire around the edge of the field. I put five strands in a 9 inch deep trench at varying heights around my perimeter. So one strand at 9 inches one at 7 one at 5 and 2 in top 3 inches. If you and Rob want to eat them putting the box traps along your fenceline acts as a funnel. They follow the fenceline and look for an easy entrance. You can also just relocate them 10 miles away. Edit: In addition I see you have things tied to your fence to flutter. Add in some steel fence posts in your field and tie on some holigraphic curling ribbon. Put a 18 inch piece every 1 foot from top to 2 feet from the ground, also add some to the tops of your fence. It is 99 cents here in the states for a roll that will cover that field twice.
