Library. Now that's a title to stop the scrolling. Yes I've always loved libraries. My first was as a toddler in the countryside where the bookmobile would stop by the only school in the area weekly. I stayed in there the entire time it showed up. Fast forward to a few years ago when I visited Flagstaff, AZ, the library had sandwiches and free local phones available (including free computer use) to anyone who needed them. I was touched by that gesture as there's a lot of homeless in the area and me being a solo traveler sans iphone used the computers. So librarians carry with them the social awareness and justice ideology that their musty ole books do. Thanks for this today Carm. Loved the flute music also.

Hey Dee, Love hearing of your own memories and passion for libraries. How neat with the bookmobile, and touching with the Flagstaff library. When you were there did you ever go to a place called 'Bookmans'? I've been visiting friends in AZ since the 90's and Flag is a frequent stop. Who knows...we may have passed each other in the aisles somewhere. 🙂Yes, librarians going hand in hand with the spirit of those very books. Glad you enjoyed the music too. Thanks much as always for being here. -Carm

@@gorvo31 No I didn't make it to Bookmans. Actually I didn't realize a "modern" Flag across the tracks until the day before I left. I stayed on the historic side in little local shops for crystals, etc. Things we don't have here and the park/library. So much to see. So little time. Maybe next trip if I get to go again? I found the historic "vibe" to be more welcoming to someone like me--ole solo walking, train hopping lady traveler complete w/backpack, t-shirt, and baseball cap...lol.

Quite a shock-it's wonderful seeing Meena and Rocky though totally unexpected, since you tend to always film outdoors during the warmer months. I like how Meena disappeared behind the 'magic curtain' just as soon as she showed up. And I think i'm hearing the director making a bit of a racket towards the end of the video which just cracked me up. A fun video-I've always loved the atmosphere of libraries-especially in schools as they were the only quiet, mellow place often within the entire building. I keep meaning to officially visit my town library, but it's all the way on the other side of town, an area which I rarely have any reason to go to (apart from that's where they moved the post office)... I like to keep all the books I read so I tend to buy them, so i'd be using the library for other things. I hadn't actually gone to one in years when in the last several weeks i've actually gone to the one in my sisters town because they're one of the places that offers fax services and I needed to fax some documents. And I loved going in ther-it reminded me of what i've always loved about libraries. Quiet, nice helpful folks working there, etc. Plus when I went there I think there was only maybe one other person in the whole library. They also located dit on a dead-end street, so it's a very quiet place. Really nice actually-too bad that one isn't MY local library! I do love and buy audio books-but only non-fiction, the longer the better. I've had bios that ran for over 20 hours which I would play in my car while driving around. I would simply pick up where I left off and it ended up taking 2 full months of driving around to get through several of the longer audiobook bios that I bought.

Hey G, I'm glad the both of them appeared. That surprised me too. I know the lighting was a bit low though. I'm sure indeed that was the sound of Rocky bubs frolicking. I know you appreciate the library similar as I do. Sometimes they're not as quiet as they used to be. One of them here has sections where you could have light socializing, and others specifically for quiet study. Yes though, too bad that one place you mentioned isn't closer to you. I'm lucky in that the closest here is a half mile, and I'll often just walk to it. Oh yes, those audiobooks you've driven around too. I guess it's a matter of finding just the right one to listen to. Thanks as always pal. Got a busy week coming up, so the correspondence from here may be a bit slower for a while. Either way chatta further soon enough. -Carm & furz

Great to see you responding to someone's book tag Carm. I guess as cousins we both have a fond memory for visiting a local library. My favorite was and still is the BPL. The Boston Public Library. I also have a Thomas Crane local library that it less than five minutes from my house. I always respected the people who worked at each one. Some of their intellect and their knowledge of books is astonishing. I appreciated hearing your responses to the various questions. Do you have a particular book that you have read more than once? Always great to spend a little time with you Carm~ Rob/Boston

Hey cuz Rob, It was fun to respond to something different here. No surprise you appreciate the library too and those who work there. Nice you have one that's so close as I do too. There is a book that's been on my nightstand for years called 'Don't push the river' by Barry Stevens which is a great re-read. Thanks as always for being here cuz. Hope all is well out your way. So good seeing the Director! My wife works part time at the library, and I used to spend every summer in the library (there were library camps, plus I would just take out loads of books and read them at the beach). The current attacks are real - she and the staff had to deal with a lot of grief the past few years.

I should have more to say on this topic as I just finished a diploma to be a library technician! But as soon as I graduated I found myself going to libraries less 😂 I’ve certain applied to work in libraries this year but so far, all rejections. I certainly spent a lot of time in libraries for the first, say, 32 years of my life - sitting for hours and reading, borrowing books, and later doing writing and cartooning in libraries. One thing that changed was that I started living alone and I guess I lost the constant need for a place to be alone, although last year my library student friends and I would do our assignments together in the state library here and it helped us concentrate. Great to hear your thoughts and experiences!

Hey Pete, It's good to hear from you here. Oh that's neat! I mean...not the rejections part of course! That's a good point too about living alone and finding a place to be alone. One thing I didn't think to mention is that I got on the internet well over a decade later than most people I knew...so I was still in the library a lot through my 20's and 30's. I still remember the forlorn feeling I had when they took away the card catalog and replaced them with a small bank of computers along the wall, ha. Hopefully you'll get that gig in a library eventually if that's what you really want. Thanks much for joining me. -Carm

Sweet furs, of course! This is a very fun tag, however, I haven't used a library since school days so it wouldn't really apply here. Since I have discovered used books, that's the way I went from there on. Especialyy the thrifts and flea markets!

Carm, great response video. My experience and opinion of the Library is quite similiar to yours ( we've talked about the subject before). The Internet has taken the place of the library, for me, I do miss going to my favorite library but I seem to forget it exists, even though I drive by it quite often. The public library concept started in the 19 th century, before that, there were only ''subscription libraries''. Cindy informed me about those little free library boxes, I had no idea that they existed. The great bass player, Palle Danielsson passed away recently, I found out by seeing a video on drummer Peter Erskine's you-tube channel. Stay cool!

Hey Michael, thanks! It was a fun one to respond to. This is true, I'd agree...that the internet is the new library in digital form...though it's partly for that reason I try to stay in touch with the actual library...the tactility and all. I didn't know that about the public library origins. Oh yes, those little free libraries are so fun, and a neat idea. I did hear the sad news about Palle. Gary (cosmic pickle) and I talk about this (and I'm sure it's true for you too) how so many of our respective and mutual favorite artists are leaving the bonds of Earth so fast, it's hard to keep up. Thanks as always for joining me. -Carm

Hi Carm, nice to see you and the Director again. I've stepped back from watching videos for the last few months so have fallen a bit behind. I loved libraries when I was a kid too. We actually had a mobile library in a van that used to stop near our house. Later on there was the school library (we had two there!) and various other town ones. I worked in the library in Leeds for a short time actually, and my partner is a professional librarian and now works in a hospital library. Ashamed to say I haven't visited the public library in Lancaster here for several years - must put that right!

Hey again James, It was the same for me, not watching or even making videos for a while, now catching up in both areas. Ooh that mobile library sounded really neat! Nice too the role the library has played in your own life. It is easy to take them for granted, would really not want to imagine a future without them for sure. Thanks much for taking the time to catch up with these. Shall do the same with yours too. Cheers your way. -Carm

Hi Carm ! I love books, and any kind of "Book Chat". The Library was such a treat for me when I was in Grade school. The discovery of a new Author,or a title I never heard of was like being on a treasure hunt ! When I had my own children I took them to the Library to broaden their interests in different subjects. The show "Reading Rainbow" helped us discover new titles. As of now, I rarely visit the Library. I am a big reader, but I don't like the time constraints of having to return books at a certain time. I'm currently reading "The Brothers Karamazov" and it's a "Hefty" book that requires patience and time. I do buy second hand books for sustainability, and I love finding notes in margins, and all kinds of "Ephemera" inside the leaves of some old books. I love worn, well loved books, and I even love the smell of books ! I will never outgrow my love of reading..This was an interesting "Tag". Happy Reading !📚🫖 Happiness, Cindy🌻

Hey Cindy! Nice the library has been such a part of you and your kids' lives too. Yes, that treasure hunt thrill aspect of it all....Wow, 'Reading Rainbow'! I remember that well from way back when. I would agree, the denser more immersive books would be better to just purchase rather than borrow....one could have it for life. Oh yes, I think that was another topic question...about finding ephemera, written notes in books...I like those too. You get to see both the author's thoughts as well as a past reader. Thanks as ever for being here. Happy reads your way too! Much love and happiness. -Carm & Rocky

Weird, I don't understand what's going on with YT. I left a comment on your channel and another guy's here, and it drops off. When I saw your video the other day I left a message and came back and it's gone. I'm not sure what's going on, but I'll just go with the flow. But yeah, a bit frustrating, but I'll just say I enjoyed your video, of course, it's what inspired me to do mine. I like watching Michael K. Vaughan's videos as well who is on the Booktube channel, and Bookabus. A newer person I've started watching is Garage Geek. I watched Kellys tag, and subscribed to her. Cheers.

Hey Dave, Yeah I'm not sure what's going on with YT either. I find if my comment on someone's videos s more tan a couple short sentences....or at least paragraphs, it simply wont post...I dunno...if nothing else, it's teaching me brevity, ha. Well again, I'm glad you responded to the tag. I'll look into the names you've mentioned, haven't see them yet. Hope you enjoy Kelly's channel. Quite enjoyable. Thanks as always. -Carm
