it baffled me to see most of the gameplay shown was literally just the player shooting at a purple cyst, yet they went ahead and thought "yeah this is riveting gameplay lets show this."

What I hate is that every character is expected to be a gunner. When I think of King Shark, I think "dive into crowd and eat enemy's head," not "shoot gatling gun." Captain Boomerang already has boomerangs, he doesn't need a sniper rifle.

I'm convinced that WB tapped Montreal on the shoulder and said "Remember that live service model we wanted you to implement in Gotham Knights? Yeah, we got a bigger game in mind for that."

Just remember, we were denied a rocksteady superman game for this.

It's just sad to see so many games go this route. I just want to buy a good singleplayer game with a good story and good gameplay as a motivation to play and not some weapon stats. Is this really asked too much these days?

Captain Boomerang is using a machine gun instead of, you know, boomerangs. That tells you all you need to know about this game.

My biggest concern is the lack of variety in combat. I mean you have four different main playable characters. That should be four different play styles, but all that was really showcased was them jumping around shooting guns. Deadshot I understand and maybe Harley. But the lack of hand to hand is disappointing especially since this is from Rocksteady.

The biggest problem is that this is supposed to be set in the Arkhamverse, yet everything I’ve seen from this game feels nothing like the Arkhamverse.

Imagine 5 years ago telling someone that in 2023 Rocksteady and EA will both be releasing big budget action adventure games based on hugely popular nerd franchises. One of them will be a straightforward story driven close combat action adventure game. The other will be an always online 4 player live service looter shooter with a battle pass. Surely you'd think it'd be EA doing the 2nd one right? Nope, that's Rocksteady, strange times. Never count anyone out OR place too much faith in anyone either.

This game has raised all the red flags for me, first we get news that the founders of the company are leaving, second we get a leak that reveals controversial design choices and third you need a connection to play the single player, yup I'm not touching this with a 50 foot pole.

Imagine making one of the best super hero video game series of all time, setting a trend for great games in the genre going forward ...then doing this shit.

My red flags were that Suicide Squad is always online, even in single player, the battle pass, and the Destiny chasing loot/rarities/gear numbers system. This game went from my must-play summer game to wait for a deep sale game. I pulled out of buying Gotham Knights for similar reasons (and the 30 FPS debacle).

Marvel's Avengers "didn't sit right" either, from its very first announcement. This seems like a repeat of that.

As a fan of the Arkham games, i really am not feeling this neon-purple, Fortnite looking, online-coop, Battle Pass and cosmetic shilling "game" at all.

I love that Redfall and SS are live services. Made my decision for me, and I am saving $140.

Silly me for expecting just to get a simple release like the Arkham games. It’s unbelievable how companies continue not to learn. Its like rocksteady was like “we’re one of the only developers not to piss people off yet we gotta do something”

For those that don’t know, there are leaked details (even concept art) for a Superman game that Rocksteady was making before being “coerced” into doing suicide squad. It’s still fairly obvious to me that they still wanted to make a Superman game. I mean, SS is literally set in metropolis with brainiac as the main villain. The Arkham games are my favorite works of fiction across all mediums, period. This is very saddening.

I love how Rocksteady’s reputation tanked after Suicide Squad. A reputation that took decades to build is now…..like Anthem.

I don't know what's more sad, the fact it took 8 years for this and we could have gotten the cancelled/rumored Superman game. Or that this will be Kevin Conroy's last role as Batman.

I never thought that Rocksteady would even consider adding a battlepass to their game but here we are.

I'm more excited to go back and play asylum again than I am for this.

my thing is that all the players look the same when in combat, i couldn't tell when it was a different character fighting.

I don't do "live service" games. It could be a good game, but I am just not into those kinds of games.

Lex Luthor will definitely be one of those playable characters. They were clearly setting that up in the trailer.

I believe this game was finished like 3 years ago but WB saw what avengers was trying to be and told Rocksteady to do that making them change the gameplay. The two developers leaving kinda cemented it for me now looking back on it.

This is the type of game that I buy when they are 70%-80% on sale.

Single player games that are online only deserve to fail. Why would I purchase something you can decide to take away at any moment.

The thing that got me the most is that they just started rattling off buzzwords during the interview. PTSD from cyberpunk kicking in hard.

No, I'm sick of giving these companies the benefit of the doubt, only to have them spit in my face. We've had companies lie to our faces about loot boxes and microtransactions.

I think it's pretty clear that Insomniac has taken over as the premier super hero game developer. Spiderman lets you earn new costumes in game. If you have to purchase this stuff, what the hell is the point?

The best part about this game is the script and cutscenes. Gameplay-wise everything else looks like terrible bog-standard live service bullshit. I'll give this game a year or less before it dies just like over a dozen live services died in the last month. I went from hyped, to probably never playing it.

At the moment the only reason i'm buying the game is to explore this really amazing rendition of Metropolis with it's Art Deco retro futurism going for the city of tomorrow look with all the 1950s Americana. Rocksteady 100% put so much heart and soul into the creation of the city something Gotham Knights lacked in it's depiction of Gotham City and for me this is the best Metropolis has ever looked outside of the Superman Animated Series. I'm not a fan when people call developer lazy as Metropolis alone shows how much effect Rocksteady have put into this game. Makes me wonder if this was all for a Superman game before they reused the assets for a Suicide Squad game as I could see myself flying around this city as Superman in between the skyline and through the high ways. And secondly for Kevin Conroy. The game feels like Crackdown mixed with Sunset Overdrive so if the game is as fun as those two games I'll have alot of fun myself I just hope the story is good and that everything blends together nicely without feeling out of place. I'm also excited to see the vehicles I feel like this will heavily play like Crackdown where we unlock really cool vehicles yet can run around the world shooting and blowing stuff up. Overall i'm a little mixed but do believe people are overrating because of how different this game is to the Batman Arkham games. There's even people saying it looks like "Fortnite" which I can't see myself. I feel like this generation calls anything that has colour and a stylised art style Fortnite without explaining why they think it looks like Fortnite to them so I tend to just look over those agruments. For me it just looks like Sunset Overdrive with the vehicle gameplay of Crackdown. Even the more colourful map and setting feels very much like Pacific City a location with alot of Art Deco itself while Fortnite isnt even Open World or does it have much of any art deco or large cities. I do understand the viewpoint on a Battlepass i'm not big on those myself but I don't think it breaks a game if it's only for outfits. DOOM Eternal had a similar Battlepass and it was amazing so it really depends on other factors if the game will be good or not. Same with the Avengers comparisons i feel like people are comparing both games because of the RPG elements and Battlepass yet the game itself is very different so yeah idk I guess we have to wait and see. It looks a bit off but I still have hope as it’s made by rocksteady and it looks like the most polished of the live-service super hero games, although I hope there’s more variety than just shooting orbs

I want to know who keeps having the bright idea to have an online only rule when it’s a solo AND co-op game. It makes no sense and my faith in rocksteady has fallen drastically

The reason why the game is always online is because it has micro transactions on it. If you have an offline game, people can just cheat their way into getting items and currency. Online only means the game will always be monitored by their anticheat systems and you won't be able to do so (or at least, will be harder). I hate this model, its horrible for game preservation and longevity, but that's why I believe they are all doing online only nowadays.

I just always thought it was a weird roster choice for the villains. They basically chose 4 villains that are practically the same except for a few minor changes. I'm not too big into DC so I may not know what I'm talking about but I feel like they could have added some really cool villains with magic powers or something. Like poison Ivy

This honestly really terrifies me, I love the Arkham games, I grew up with them as a kid, I really want this game to be good... but I just really dunno at this point.

It feels very design-by-committee. Like a bunch of marketing suits gave them a checklist and they're just ticking off the boxes.

My main problem I think is the characters using guns. Deadshot is the only character here that regularly uses them, and king shark and boomerang don't even have guns.

Me and my brother watched the showcase and we felt the game looks like something we played and i just realized the gameplay weirdly feels like Saints row 4 for some reason.

Between Harley swinging like spiderman, the bullet sponge enemies and everyone not using their abilities and it looking like a shooter....hhhhhhhhh

Wait a couple weeks and it'll be available with a heavy discount. Especially during the holidays, I've learned my lesson from Gotham Knights, I bought the highest tier with the bullshit color swaps that did nothing to change my experience. That was $15 gone because I'm a dumbass.

I think this game will be another themepark you play for a couple of times and them forget like it you've got amnesia. Looks like Hogwarts Legacy is still king of the releases so far this year.

Not needing internet to play fucking solo is NOT a perk! There shouldn’t be ANY internet connection required to play solo in the first place. I don’t want to be dependent on internet when I have bought a game and the fact that the game which I BOUGHT and OWN will someday become inaccessible to me in future is beyond any level of tolerance for me.

I don't know what I was expecting when it was revealed a Suicide Squad game was in development, but given that it was from Rocksteady, I (foolishly) thought it would be in the same vein as the Arkham series. Seeing that it's gone the direction of Avengers and Gotham Knights has completely neutered my hype for the game. Oh well, $70 saved.

I just don't get it... Ask a thousand Rocksteady fans what they want from the next Rocksteady Game and I wonder how often the answer will be... an always online, 4 player co-op looter shooter live service Game?

Had a bad feeling about this game since it was revealed. This doesn't make me feel any better.

Rocksteady sold its soul to chase the Live Service dream. And that's that. The founders know what's coming, that's why they left. 8 years ago when they started development on this the gaming industry fooled themselves into thinking Live Services were the future of gaming. But the reality, which unfortunately is hitting right now, is that Live Services are just a genre at best or at worst (for Rocksteady) a dying fad going the way of MMORPGs before them.

They showed the new destiny story reveal trailer because PlayStation acquired bungie last year and might be part of their advertising agreements. Also It'd always be captured on PC for higher graphic fidelity due to the trailer being a pre-rendered cutscene

Online-only?! Well there goes my interest in the game. I made the mistake of buying ALL of the DLC for Battleborn only for that to get bricked so I couldn't even play the single-player coop missions (which i quite liked btw.) Never again!

Marvel's Avengers also promised that none of the items you could buy would affect gameplay it was a total lie, they added things later like boosters etc (in addition to making leveling up much slower to entice you to buy them). You can never trust what these companies actually say, only what they do in the few months post release.

I was super hyped for this game when it was first announced. I thought the idea was great and I really enjoyed all of Rocksteady's previous games. With all the controversy surrounding it over the past few months with the leaks, I still went into this State of Play with high hopes. At this point, I don't think there's anything worthwhile to me in the game. The fact that each character seemed to play exactly the same is weird. They said that each character had a specialty, but the gameplay didn't reflect that. It looks like each character handles the same and has the same move set, with just adjustments to the animations. The fact that this is a looter-shooter is even worse. I hate how looter shooters focus on mountains of meaningless content rather than robust and interesting content. When you have 15000000 guns, but each enemy is a bullet sponge, does it really matter what gun you're using? It usually boils down to maxing out your DPS rather than picking guns that you find fun. On top of that, the story and dialogue seems really off. It don't see it having a very solid tone, which is never a good thing. The game presents itself as this Rage 2 esque neon, dark humor romp, but then it hits us with the Flash telling Wonder Woman that she needs to kill the justice league to stop braniac, and the whole scene seems to be meant to be serious. Those two tones are really conflicting with eachother, at least as presented. Then there's the Flash saying, "I'll show you what a super hero can really do." then he just runs around them in a large circle. I'm not impressed. As someone who has never really enjoyed this style of gameplay, I really hope that the game ends up being great and at some point I find a reason to get into it, because I really love the characters and the skins they're showing off, and I'm always looking for a good reason to check out the Arkham universe again. Having said that, I don't have high hopes for it at this point.

Hopefully this is the last big "always online games as a service battlepass microtransaction" mess of a game we'll get from AAA. It seems like a lot of publishers have learned their lesson, like the late-stage pivot that happened with Gotham Knights. Sucks for this game, but when it inevitably flops, at least it'll be another warning for studios to not do this.

Support after launch depends on the sale, like the avengers game or anthem. They promise the world and a roadmap, but i think they will break all their promises.

The game comes out in 3 months and we have one 10 minute gameplay video of it. Not to mention if this game was really open world they would explain to us how it’s open world instead of just saying it. That’s all you need to know right there.

The always online thing is sadly not new, the new Hitman games are always online. Well, actually you can still play Hitman but nothing will save though and you can't unlock any new items/suits.
