The issue wasn't marketting. The issue with Cyberpunk was management. The developers could have delivered everything promised if they were simply allowed to delay the game another year or so. Management were the ones who forced the game out for the Holiday season at the peak of hype.

@@reethardio6432 And you're blowing things way out of proportion. How do you know they "advertised features that they knew the devs didn't even have implemented"? When the most likely scenario was that there were things that the devs had WANTED to implement but simply didn't end up having time to do so. Either that or they likely were features that were in the game and later removed for any number of reasons. These are very common things in game development. And while I have no proof either on those educated guesses, what we do know for a fact is that after roughly a year the game had been patched enough to be at a more than an acceptable place for launch. And if the devs weren't forced to play catch-up on bug fixes and PR moves perhaps they would have even been able to do even more than what we have now.

The reason a codename is used is for reference. The projects are in their infancy, most likely the titles don’t have names since the narrative team is still working this out, or that it might have a name subject to change. I reckon it also makes it easier to refer to the projects in house where internal emails are written, or consultants engaged. Also its great way for developers to see excitement for their game as its announced gives them drive seeing the collective reaction of their fans.

@@benmac7552 more or less really, think of it like a project name, like before Overwatch was even Overwatch, the game was meant to be an MMO. The teams assigned to it had a completely different set of objectives and so on. However lets say Orion is a Witcher MMO as of now, but 3 months down the line it will go through some massive shift, people and teams get changed over… new hires and consultants etc. Orion lives on, with whatever they decide to keep, while they can scrap and remake new things, they will still be making a Witcher title, just one whose focus has shifted. Its really an internal thing with big developers in these kinds of industries used to compartmentalise information.

They actually said that they aim to get the sequels out within 6 years of the first game's launch, not that they want to get the entire trilogy out in 6 years. They're plan is to get most of the core foundational mechanics done in the first game so that the future sequels can build on top of them rather than having to built almost from scratch again like they've been doing with all of their games so far. Cyberpunk in particular was especially bad in this area considering almost nothing from the witcher games could be reused and CDPR had an incredibly overly ambitious list of features they ultimately had to cut, wasting huge amounts of time and resources.

@@TrigonAZR Since they are switching to Unreal Engine 5 for the next Witcher Trilogy I think they can definitely deliver. What most people don't realise is that while making Cyberpunk, CDPR were also simultaneously creating the Red Engine for the game which was just too much work, one of the reasons why the development took so long. By switching to UE5 they can solely focus on building the game with tools specifically designed for them. Which is also why they're confident that they can deliver the next two Witcher games in 6 years after the release of the first game. So yeah, I think they can deliver, but imo there are likely going to be some delays here and there, which is to be expected with AAA game development.

I’m a little worried with what they’re promising. It’s very ambitious. Making 3 Witcher games + a cyberpunk game + 2 more Witcher games within a year time span of when the first main Witcher game comes out. It’s all quite a lot. However with new studios opening up for them, I believe they can do it. Firstly I think they’re fine with Witcher. They know the formula, they know what to do. I’m not worried about the Witcher games. Also they explained that they’ll get the core foundations of the game for the first game and then have 3 years to build on the first game and then another 3 years to build on the second game. I think CD PR was so embarrassed with the release of cyberpunk that no matter how much pressure they fans put on, they won’t release any game until it’s finished. I love the Witcher and Cyberpunk and they know how to make a 10/10 Witcher game and they know the mistakes from the first cyberpunk and even then imo the story and setting was 10/10, just should have been way more polished and more features than what was at launch. I want to believe in CD PR. Im skeptical but people there have surely learnt their mistakes of promising too much and leaving fans disappointed so they wouldn’t claim all this and not be 100% sure they can achieve this

Its a good time for them to release this info. With Cyberpunk finally being a succes and sales getting a boost together with the release of the Edgerunner anime. All these projects need funding of course.

I have a working theory that Hadar will be a Sci-Fi space opera epic because they’ve already done fantasy knights and magic plus Cyberpunk being named after its own genre

It’s not an accident that CDPR released this roadmap for the company right after hitting peak player numbers on steam for cyberpunk 2077. They’re trying to capitalize on the current good will for the game and ride that wave while leaving the bad taste in our mouths behind us.

Witcher 5 and 6 would be released within a six years timeframe after the launch of Witcher 4. I'd say that's a pretty feasible timeframe. If it's anything like most Yakuza game sequels, the next games would only need adding things and expanding instead of building things from the ground up. Also, for those that don't know, they also mentioned that the Witcher sequels and the Cyberpunk sequel would pretty much be handled by two entirely different teams. Witcher with the Polish team, and Cyberpunk with the US team. Imagine Mass Effect Andromeda which was not made by the main Bioware studio. The main difference with Andromeda's situation being that the CDPR US team would be working with Unreal Engine 5, not the mess that is their outdated in-house engine. Meaning I hope Bioware's Frostbite Engine problem wouldn't occur again.

I am pretty sure that they don't plan on all the games to be released within 6 years of Polaris. They said that the two next installments in the trilogy will be released in 6 years. But not anything about next Cyberpunk and Hadar. Still ambitious though :)

Say what you want about cyberpunk, but I know damn well development didn't start in 2017 with only 3 years to release. Despite bugs, the game is still a masterpiece when it comes to visuals, world design and some of the technical implementation.

Surely this time they do have a clear plan. I mean it sounds ambitious but so far as we've seen post cp77 launch they are changing a lot of things up.. Im hoping for the best + we need to understand that since they're now working in UE5 they don't need to develop and engine simultaniously with the game resulting in a much much faster workflow.
