In this talk, recorded at TEDxEustis in January 2018, Chantel Buck who serves as the President/CEO of New Vision for Independence, the Leesburg, FL based non-profit organization serving the visually impaired and blind in Lake and Sumter counties believes that blindness does not have to be a barrier to independence. Chantel leverages her Bachelor’s degree in advertising from the University of South Florida and MBA from Western Governors University to empower visually impaired individuals of all ages to be successful. A member of Mensa, Chantel’s mission in life is to always be learning; from braille to budgets, Photoshop to FLSA, technology to tofu, Chantel is a self-proclaimed “human sponge.” She is a Florida native and loves her three kids, chocolate, and Harry Potter. You are very brave Chantel to talk about your disability. You did a good job. I got my degree in I/O because of the 2-3x higher unemployment rate. That is why I do the advocacy work I do. SHRM (Society Human Resource Management) recently did training on why it is good to hire people with disabilities. It was training, focusing on why we are qualified. I have a processing disorder both auditory and visual. I think we need to all come together just like the capital crawl and change the laws regarding employment, medicare, and our social security.

As a person with mild cerebral palsy and someone who loves to work my desire overtook my reality of moving ahead in the company I worked for to the point where I was severely depressed and had thoughts of suicide I'm at a job that keeps me at a temporary state which leaves me with zero benefits but at the same time I'm kind of worried about excited about a job that I'm a particular like realizing I may never move up in ranks

i was excluded from employment in my field just because i cannot get a drivers license. i went to voc rehab and the best they could offer was a cna job. i could not take it because i knew i could not physically do it. staying in the job i had after i was forcedout of my good job after a severe at work injury, i ended up exaclty where i did not want to be, on disability.

There are ways to dispute VR. In every state, there is a disability rights. If you decide to try VR again, and they pull that with you, you can contact them. It is sad that people have to struggle so much with VR.

My current workplace is so so soooo supportive of my disabilities, especially working with children that have challenges. They advocate for me in the most supportive ways
