Latvija ir Eiropas dižkoku valsts. Ar savu koku bagātību esam otrie aiz Lielbritānijas. Līdz aizvadītā gada beigām datu sistēmā “Ozols” tika reģistrēti 14 800 un atklāti vairāk kā 1400 jauni valsts nozīmes dižkoki.
Viens no Latvijā pazīstamākajiem dižkoku pētniekiem Guntis Eniņš pagājušo nedēļu ciemojās Ropažu pusē, Lantes muižā.
Izcilais dabas pieminekļu pētnieks dalījās savā pieredzē - kā pētīt kokus un, kurā brīdī tos varam saukt par dižkokiem.
Lantes muiža ir pazīstama ar savu kritušo dižozolu.
Lielo milzi jau 1972. gadā Staņislavs Saliņš, kas tiek uzskatīts par dižkoku tēvu, bija izmērījis un nofiksējis.
Tobrīd Lantes dižozols bija trešais lielākais Rīgas rajonā.
Tā apkārtmērs bija 6,5 metri. Netālu no ozola atrodas 350 metrus garā Barona aleja.
Tiek uzskatīts, ka tā stādīta laikā, kad sākta Lantes muižas būvniecība un jau šodien daļa no senajiem kokiem ir sasnieguši dižkoku statusu.
Dižkokiem ir kultūrvēsturiska, izglītojoša un zinātniska funkcija, liela nozīme vispārējās bioloģiskās daudzveidības saglabāšanā un Lantes muiža ar to var lepoties.
Viesojoties Lantes muižā, dabas aizsardzības pārvalde tās alejā konstatēja četrus dižkokus un piecus kandidātus šī goda statusā.
Savukārt izcilais latviešu vides aizsardzības un dabas pētnieks G. Eniņš vizītes laikā atklāja vēl vienu Lantes muižas dižkoku- liepu.

Latvia is one of Europe's great tree countries. We are second only to the UK when it comes the wealth of our trees. By the end of last year, 14,800 new trees of national importance had been registered in the Ozols data system and more than 1400 new ones had been discovered.
Last week, Guntis Eniņš, one of Latvia's best-known arboreal researchers, visited Lantes Manor in Ropaži.
The eminent natural monuments researcher shared his experience - how to study trees and at what point we consider them great.
Lantes Manor is famous for its fallen oak tree.
The giant was first measured and recorded as early as 1972 by Staņislavs Saliņš, hailed as the father of great trees.
At that time, the tree was the third largest in the Riga region.
It boasted a circumference of 6.5 metres. The 350-metre-long Baron's Avenue is not far from the oak tree.
It is believed to have been planted when the construction of Lantes Manor started, and today some of the ancient trees have already achieved the status of being regarded as great.
Lantes Manor can take pride in the fact that these trees have a cultural, historical, educational and scientific function as well as playing an important role in the conservation of biodiversity in general.
During the visit to Lantes Manor, along the avenue, the Nature Conservation Agency identified four great trees and five future candidates.
During his visit, G. Eniņš, a renowned Latvian environmentalist and nature researcher, discovered another great tree at Lantes Manor - a linden.
