In this episode we install the 19 tooth front sprocket we purchased from www.hitchcocksmotorcycles.com for $75 AUS and road test it. This is an awesome modification if you use your Royal Enfield for longer, faster or highway rides, I would highly recommend it. Install can be fiddly so take your time if you do it yourself or get your dealer to install for you!
You will need a 46mm socket and breaker bar!
Sorry for the long video. Road testing starts at 8:47 if thats all you want to watch.

I run good quality OEM Reynolds chain on my Triumph Tr-6 with a hard tail and magneto.A piece of the frame broke and also cracked in two places. The Reynolds chain was holding the back of the bike together. You could see it shaving the back sprocket. Rigid frames are very easy on chains because they are always at the proper tension. I have had my Triumph Tr-6 with a hard tail and magneto for 40 years.

Not sure if anyone mentioned this, but worth pointing out that the Euro 4 model ( 2017- 2021) comes with a 17T standard. I did not check so went from a 17T to a 19T with a 38 rear sprocket and it feels terrible ! revving hard to get off the lights, lugging, so need to swap down to an 18T to get it right.... perhaps you want to point this out to your viewers ? Thanks again for the instructions

I did read the ABS models came out with a 17 tooth sprocket, so yeah upgrade to 18 tooth, while the earlier models were 18 so upgrade to 19 tooth? Same result apparently.

@@manurewaboy It had me scratching my head for a second since they both share the same size rear sprocket until I noticed the pre ABS models have an 18" rear wheel compared to the 19" in the ABS bike so it ends up much the same, the rear wheel on the ABS bike spins 1/18th slower at the same revs but the wheel is 1/18th bigger.

Great video, buddy! I just got out there and changed the spark plug today from the factory Bosch to the NGK BPR6eix. The cap was a nightmare to get off, I don't think it's ever been removed since being put on at the factory. Put the new plug in...cap would not go on for the life of me. I struggled and did everything I could. Decided to put the Bosh back in...cap went on no problem! Start looking and realize the Bosh has a threaded top and the NGK had a cover around the threads! Grabbed some pliers and twisted it off...went on a like a dream afterwards. Funny moments like that make it memorable!

I did an upgrade like this to my '95 Enny 500 after improving the breathing of my motor. Back then I'd never heard of Hitchcocks so I made my own sprockets. I installed a smaller back wheel in the quest for a brake that suffered less heat fade (Honda CB350 back wheel with mods) but it was a mistake. The change in rake angle induced by the lowering of the rear end affected handling negatively. Lacing a CB750 hub to the original rim to get better braking while retaining the original wheel diameter seems to have become "one of those projects"... I must admit, watching your vids this evening has given me a bit of a kick in the ring mate.

it's an awesome improvement on my 2010 C5 , a couple others I really recommend if you want to virtually eliminate vibrations are the bearing plate from Carberry, works extremely well, and drilling out your plugs in the handle bars and almost filling the bars with pellet gun pellets or shotgun shot and then putting on bar end mirrors, which also eliminate a lot of turbulence around your helmet from the stock mirrors. feels like a completely different bike.

I did the same on my 2018 model and wished I had gone up to 20 teeth, I'm sure it would pull it, as the torque is great with the Hitchcocks free flowing exhaust system, I also fitted the Carberry crank bearing kit at the same time. Mine will cruise 70-75 easily on dual carriageway top whack is about 85 before rev limiter kicks in. Love the bike

Thanks for the work you put into making this vid mate! Still have half the mind on getting a classic 500 here in San Francisco CA. Looks to fit the bill for city filtering but the higher highway speeds in the Bay are not for the faint of heart (70-95mph). Would you say that the 19T makes a 250k trip at 100kph-120kph manageable? Once in awhile getaway type of trip
@iRidetas
@iRidetas 5 жыл бұрын
Yeah there is no way it could hold close to 95mph. I'm pretty sure I still couldn't even hit that speed. 70mph it can deal with but holding it for long periods would not be kind on it! But back roads and in town it's fun bike!!

Thats exactly what I was planning to do to my bike. Glad that you went before me. :-) About the tools, I was thinking what you gonna use that hammer for. Ahh now I see... Do you really need to remove the exhaust system? And removing the nut on that sprocket, I would just use my impact wrench. I can see that your bike is using the old chain tension system. Nice that you didn't need to change the chain. It would have been nice to see where the fuel is cutting off in second, third and fourth gear. Mine is cutting off at 60 on second, 80 on third and 110 on fourth gear. Anyway, thanks for the video and the effort you put on this video. Cheers.
@iRidetas

Yes you have to remove the exhaust on the classic to get the foot peg off! Which sucks but hey! I used a breaker bar with a impact bit but impact gun would be fine! I did fit a 19T to my 2015 Classic EFI-500 only to find it reduced ultimate top speed and put a huge gap between 4th and 5th so that joining a motorway I had to rev 4th up to 75mph in order change up with any hope of acceleration in top. All the gears are shifted up so that 2nd and 3rd used for tight corners and bends now had to go down a cog, and that gear was too low. With the gearing raised the back wheel lacked sufficient power in top to get 85mph even though I have a few extra ponies, struggling to get over 80 at times. With the 19T the motor felt like it was labouring and slogging at times. I swapped back to the 18T. With the 18T re-installed it will happily potter along at the national speed limit (NSL) of 60mph and the gears are now back in all the right places for bends. Motorway NSL is 70mph, it will happily cruise at that and then some when asked, as the cars go north of 80. Have I shown you this before? It's no burn up but a fairly gentle ride uphill on a relatively twisty rural A-road. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/bKyKg9SXmNetY4E.html

@@iRidetas many do find it suits them. And I am happy that you like it . However I could not fail to notice in one of your later videos where you ride the coast road that your engine was slogging when you climbed from sea level up onto the cliffs. The terrain in the video I referenced climbs from 120m from the River Kennet to just under 300m on Walbury Hill off to the left of the road. Which it can do very easily without labouring at all, powering up the climbs with some to spare, but could not when I had the 19T on.
