Zhou Jingrong and Lin Zhengsuan are from Wenzhou, east China's Zhejiang Province. They run businesses in Prato, Italy but have adopted very different strategies. In Antananarivo, Madagascar, Cai Guowei let his son to take over his business 10 years ago, marking the start of a bitter-sweet relationship between them. In this constantly changing world, overseas Chinese are gaining prosperity. No one knows what the future holds, but through smart thinking and hard work, happiness is not far away.

Thank you for a great programme. The tenacity and perseverance of the overseas Chinese really shines through. I understand the hardships of the overseas Chinese having been born and brought up overseas. Working in the family business from a young age is very normal. We were not afraid of hard work. It so different from the lives of the next generation. But then all Chinese work hard so that their next generation don't have to go through the hardships that they went through.

Good indicator of economic conditions. Savings continuously depleted is maybe a straightforward gauge, but not a very satisfying experience of inspiring confidence.

Why are Chinese hated in most places. Generally they are hardworking, law abiding and benign people. Maybe Chinese people must find out why and see if they can be more welcoming. Perhaps they always posed a challenge to the locals wherever they go both in business and assimilation. They are viewed as disruptive to the local community with their different cultures and competitive nature.

I think that was a great observation and more than generally true. Chinese migrants do not and are known not to create problems to the countries they settled in, except for these values : hardworking, law abiding and benign. That perhaps is also their greatest weakness as an immigrant community to any land, as they do not behave the way most other immigrants do.

Hardworking and industrious people are always hated. My grandparents were so hardworking that they bought 6 buildings in Singapore. We don't have to tame down, the locals have to be just as hardworking.... look at Malaysia and Singapore. You will know after one generation, the locals would adapt to the Chinese working mentality and all turn wealthy together. Nope... the Chinese adapt to local culture a lot... try to ask how many Westerners learn the local language when they move to their newplace... Chinese learn the local language.. so I don't agree with you.

@@ociiu If you hear western media spread the rumor a thousand time that Chinese bring debt trap to Africa, many people will believe despite no figures or proof to support the claim. Here in Europe, the news about China is 95% negative. most news copied the information spreader by the US corporate media without changing a word. You know what you can expect.
