Join artist and art educator Sydney Snyder for an interactive workshop follow-up to her 2022 presentation on inclusive model practices, Universal Design for Learning, disability visibility, and strategies and tools for engaging students of all physical and intellectual abilities.
Sydney Snyder is a multi-disciplinary artist and art educator living in Los Angeles. Sydney has recently taken on the role of Art Department Instructional Leader at an independent school where she oversees teaching and learning in the visual art department. Prior to that, Sydney spent seven years at an inclusive model charter school, collaborating with occupational, speech, and physical therapists; special education teachers; general education teachers; students and parents to ensure art was accessible to students of all intellectual and physical abilities. Sydney oversees a TAB (Teaching for Artistic Behavior) classroom, guiding students to create art of their choosing in an open studio setting as they learn the Studio Habits of Mind. In 2017, she founded an inclusive after-school enrichment program and summer camp called Art Encounter. Sydney has also enjoyed working as a co-conspirator at Adding Voices with founder Flavia Zuñiga-West, creating culturally responsive curriculum resources, editing newsletters, and serving as a conference advisor and design administrator for the first Adding Voices Conference at Moore College of Art and Design in 2022.
The Educator Speaker Series invites K-12 teachers to present on crucial topics in art education that center on criticality and social justice.
