A documentary filmed, edited and produced by Stuart Cohen for the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) about Mount Elgon National Park, in association with the International Union for Conservation of Nature.
I was asked in February 2014 if i'd be interested in producing a short film about the management of Mount Elgon National Park for the UWA as a volunteer representing the International Union for Conservation of Nature, of which i am a recent member. I was told that I'd have to take this on at my own expense, in as much as i'd have to fund my travel to Uganda and all production costs. In the end the UWA were very generous in assisting me with most of my expenses while i was in Uganda. Once there i met a magnificent group of dedicated UWA staff who were extremely welcoming and helpful throughout my stay in Uganda. This film is about the park, the daily challenges of the UWA staff managing this 1200 sq km volcanic caldera and the neighbouring communities who have embraced the park and all the benefits it offers them and future generations.
The film was shot in May 2014 and completed ready for it's first screening on November 14 at the IUCN Mountains Dinner at the World Parks Congress in Sydney, Australia, an event that's held only once every ten years. This year 6,000 national park managers and environmentalists from around the wold attended.
If you like this film, please share it so the inspiring messages of the UWA staff and Mount Elgon community can be seen and heard.

Some thing bizarre about this documentary. You are showcasing tourism on Mt Elgon and yet you use Senegalese music in the background.Really? Tourism is always a contextualized package

That's because this film was self funded. Cost me thousands personally and i didn't make a cent or intend to. I did this as a volunteer. So i spent hours and hours searching the net trying to find ugandan music that would fit. I really, really wanted to find something Ugandan and the music that was sent to me from Uganda was basically pop music that would not fit the ebb and flow of the film. I looked for music that required payment and it was in the thousands of dollars. In the end i found something that fit the film to some extent but I'm aware it wasnt Ugandan. Bare in mind i produced this in 2014 and i expect by now i might have a little more luck finding what i wanted. I take your point completely and if this film had a budget beyond just my own resources i maye have done better and actually got someone to produce exactly what i needed in Uganda but pop music wasn't going to cut it. Also consider that the film was produced entirely for a one of conference, the World Parks Conference in Sydney. It was basically produced for westerners who would not know where the music came from. I really wish i could have had Ugandan music that would fit this film. I'm guessing the music is why the Ugandan Wildlife Authority was ultimately disappointed in the result. But i thank you for your comment. You are quite correct.

The fact that you billed the UWA for such a shitty documentary is😂😂

I didn't get paid a cent. In fact it cost me a lot of money to go there at my own expense to do this as an IUCN volunteer at the UWA request. There was zero budget for the making of this film which was produced solely to show at a conference in Sydney.

@@ThiongoMahi Oh dear. yawn!!! Give up. The point is I didn't bill them. It cost me a lot more than it did the UWA. Go and bother someone else.
