Reacting To Auditions I ALMOST Booked: Wednesday

Shortly after I wrapped filming my role of 002 in Stranger Things 4, I auditioned for, and almost booked, a role in Wednesday, the role of Tyler.
In todays episode, I'm reacting to my original audition tape, critiquing it, and then redeeming my audition by re-creating with all of my notes.
Enjoy!

There was a conversation recently that this video reminded me of. It’s were auditions you feel like you have to be quicker that it takes the emotions you want to feel away, especially in an audition room. But if you do get the role you finally have the chance to play on those emotions more. I always find auditions hectic. Your videos are going to help so many actors.

Oooooh I love that! It’s true, the audition is a completely different technique from the acting you’ll do on set. Both have their unique challenges. Like you said, there’s no editor in the audition to keep it engaging. On the opposite end, you have so many takes you need to nail on set that stamina becomes wickedly important. Different muscles you work on different aspects of the craft. Thank you so much for watching and sharing your perspective Courtney!

Your acting is flawless. I don’t know anything about acting but I can say I feel the emotion behind the lines. Your role in Stranger Things speaks volumes about your passion for acting. You will definitely go further with your acting career. At this point, I will be paying more attention to what acting work you attain. For me, I’m a beginner screenplay writer and will soon have film gear to shoot my lil project. What I find valuable with your video, others included is, your acting “masterclass” content. You make it so easy to understand and work with. Thank you for investing in your channel. You give us who are pursuing film making at any capacity hope and encouragement.

That’s amazing!! Definitely my goal for these types of videos! It’s important to both have a standard and to let that standard be malleable. Trust every tape required something a little different, so be sure way wi h yourself the time it maybe doesn’t go how you want! A reminder I give to myself constantly 😵‍💫

For what it's worth, 8:20 was a far better performance. The buzz cut might have actually worked for Tyler since he allegedly went to boot camp. You are a fearless soul being able to laugh at and critique your auditions. Your Xavier audition would be interesting to see, since the character has unfortunately been written out of the show as of now!

Your second attempt was much more engaging, and the dark undertones of the character were there through the charm. The original audition came across quite camp in comparison, massive improvement in my opinion. Hopefully you land some big roles in the future too.

Tyler's role was really difficult and hard to play. I feel like Hunter was the perfect choice cuz he has this good vibes, his smile is so sweet and gentle but also he can be really sassy ahahah so yeah I couldn't see anybody but him playing Tyler. You give me better vibes for playing Xavier, I would like to see you in that part! I loved you in stranger things btw❤

I love these videosss. I am a beginner actress and have been making my own self tapes. But, looking back they just are not hitting the mark at all. Your videos are really helpful when revising because I can see some of the things that I am doing wrong. Thank youuu. 😁 Also, I like how positive you are in critiquing your work. I like how you improved the audition tapes. They were really good.

That makes me so happy to hear!! It’s SOOOO good to be in the habit of making your own tapes to learn from. I know it’s incredibly difficult in the beginning when you feel like you don’t know what it is you’re missing and don’t have a lot of outside feedback. I’m happy these are helping you have more clarity as you continue your journey of learning!!

As someone who knows nothing about acting. There was a night and day difference between the original tapes and the new ones. The new audition comes off as more relatable and likable, albeit still dark. Which was important for the role. I have no idea how I ended up here, but it was a very interesting video. I look forward to seeing what else you put out.

I was scrolling and was like ooh this face looks familiar then it clicked, your performance on stranger things was amazing and would've made a adorable Tyler imo , nontheless I'll be looking up now what other works you've been in and looking forward to your future accomplishments Edit: 4:42 I'm sorry that was the best part 😂😂 definitely more of a Xavier vibes than Tyler, reminds of how Tom Hiddleston went to audition for Thor and got Loki instead and Tom Felton auditioning for Harry but getting Draco , with the controversies and allegations against Percy Hynes(i have no idea how the casting process works) i hope they give you a shot as Xavier in season 2 or something if it's not too late already,i liked the character but they seemed to have written him off atp

Great video the second scene in the new attempt was so much more powerful but i have a question if you are making a self tape to send to agents is there a specific time constraint for how long those scenes should be roughly or does it not matter?
@TristanSpohnAKASpiderman
@TristanSpohnAKASpiderman 2 ай бұрын
Thank you!! And good question. This depends on the page count. If your audition is more minutes than pages, it’s typically a sign you’re going too slow. For example if you have five pages, unless there is heavy action or written beats, you want to be between 3-5 minutes. 6 or even 7 minutes would be most likely slow paced.

What if someone wants to learn acting from start without much expenses ???
@TristanSpohnAKASpiderman
@TristanSpohnAKASpiderman 2 ай бұрын
Good question! I would say the easiest way is to watch movies with the intention of studying the actors. Create a structured film study of actors you either aspire to or actors you get compared to. Analyze why their performances work. Transcribe scenes and then try them yourself. Watch videos like mine or Variety’s Actors on Actors to gradually build an understanding the breakdown process. Try out different techniques yourself with some monologues. Analyze and see what works and what doesn’t. It’s all about watching good work, practicing good work, and using any nearby resources. From acting books, to theatre classes in high school, to simply watching movies and noticing how the actors dance with the camera.

I definitely don’t think it’s a coincidence they asked me to read for Xavier after seeing this audition! What I will say is that eventually you do get to a point in your career where it’s about preference. Everyone is talented and sometimes it’s just some intangible thing about them you don’t have that the producers simply prefer. And so while I think I would have been a great Xavier, I also think there was a deeper reason it wasn’t meant for me. I also have seen that so much changes from the audition to the final product on screen. Every role I’ve booked so far became a borderline completely different character in the final edit. There’s so much other context and outside perspective that enters when you bring it on set.

Hey! We have a video coming out TODAY that dives into getting your first agent to hopefully answer these questions. Essentially an agent finds auditions and sends them to you as most of these aren't publicly available. The agent is like the middleman to make sure casting only gets truly qualified actors. The only place you will find the most professional publicly accessible opportunities is Actors Access. Backstage is also great for finding extra and photo double work. Casting Networks is the hub for commercial acting. FaceBook groups are the best place to find local indie projects currently casting. The video we launch TODAY covers this in way more detail, but hopefully this helps!
