As someone who has heard the song before, you realize the reason she stared at the glass for so long was because she knew the pain she would go through after drinking it. This symbolizes the pain she faced in a past relationship that she must sit through because she chose to move forward with the relationship. It's a gorgeous song, and once you listen to it thoroughly, I'm sure you'll feel the same
