I will say, in my opinion, this is something the writing in V3 really subverts in many cases, like with Himiko's and Shuichi's and even Kyo's (as strange as that is to say) arcs, although obviously Kaito bounces back really suddenly from loss in a way that feels more similar to how characters in past games do, so I understand his inclusion here. I guess for me personally his actions, however impulsive and unwavering on a surface level they often are, seem sufficiently motivated by his feelings of loss, especially following the conclusions of the 1st and 4th cases.
