In every song where David Gilmour plays guitar, I always say to myself, "Don't let it end!". Even his longest guitar solos feel short to me and I often play them several times in a row. In my opinion, there is no guitarist in the world who can put soul into the tones of his guitar like David Gilmour.

This was probably one of David's greatest solos ever. What he was able to pull out of the black strat this night was absolutely unreal. The black strat is literally "crying". EVERYTHING he did on this solo is perfection. Every little detail of it, from his note choice, the bends, the vibratos, the way he holds the note through the chord change, and the way he gradually increases volume as the solo progress, and change to the bridge pickup near the end, at full blast.

On the night of July 4th, 1970, Jimi Hendrix played "Star Spangled Banner" for us at the Atlanta Pop Festival. He wore the guitar strap that David Gilmour is using for this song and most of his recent concerts. His wife bought it as a birthday present. Imagine what that strap is worth today!! Seeing it again brings back deep emotions every time I see him use it. Wonderful memories.

You're right, Millie. Gilmore's guitar is front and center, but the parts played by the rest of the band (and in this video, the accompanying orchestra) lays down the perfect backdrop for the solos. That's part of the magic of Pink Floyd and David Gilmore.

Hey there young lady, Greetings from the mountains of West Virginia. The weather is changing here now. Winter is right around the corner, ready OR not... I have been thinking about bass players to recommend to YOU. I hope you are still working on that skill... And YES, Mr. Gilmour is very special. But I am biased..... I think Pink Floyd is one of the best rock bands EVER!!!!! They make it look so easy. They are smooth and great at their craft!!!!!!! As we just heard David do!! Pink is great, period end of the story...... Some folks think their music is too long... Not me!!! I will continue to recommend artists for your review... Consider it a part of your education.... Good job darling in that you figured out it sounds so simple, yet it is NOT!!!!! In their videos they are so smooth and effortless... I never got to see them live. A big bummer moment in my life... Oh well, life goes on. AND Pink helps with that.....

If you haven't yet, you could react to "Where we start", from the same concert (Live in Gdansk). And carefully listen to the lyrics... It's one of the most beautiful, "pragmatical" love songs I EVER heard, and he wrote it as a Birthday present for his wife. I kinda cry every time I hear it, so deep it touches me. ❤ Or, again from the same concert, "Echoes"... It's an old Pink Floyd "suite" (1971), and the VERY LAST performance of it. A few months later the historic keyboards player of Pink Floyd and his long time friend, Rick Wright, died, and David said that he would never play that song anymore. ❤

If you ever want to have one artist to study guitar work David Gilmore is by far the best. I know he has said it's not how many notes you play it's about how you play a single note. Comfortably Numb from this concert is amazing. I truly think it's better than the Pulse concert. The orchestra is a beautiful touch.

But yes his solo and his Guitar playing was Signature and he is Brilliant on it!!

There are 2 songs from 1972 I would like to suggest for you to react to. "Frankenstein" by The Edgar Winter Group and "Hocus Pocus" by Focus. Both are rock instrumentals. Frankenstein was the first rock instrumental to hit #1 on the Billboard hot 100. Hocus Pocus has vocals, but no lyrics. You'll see what I mean. Please do the studio versions of both. Both have live performances, but the audio is not as good as the studio versions. If you like the songs, you can always check out the live performances afterwards. You'll love both of them, I'm sure.
