When Caesar attacked Koba inside the dam, he actually made things worse because Koba felt that he was humiliated in front of everyone, including the humans. It was actually the last straw for Koba, and thus he turned on Caesar there

Kind of ironic that Koba dies the exact same way he killed Jacobs in _Rise of the Planet of the Apes_ as both beg for mercy and scream when they fell to their deaths. The difference is that Koba pushes Jacobs in the ocean was out of sadistic joy which eventually shaped his violent nature in this film whereas with Caesar he did it out of anger after Koba not only sought war against the humans but also held the humans and especially the other apes who followed Caesar (including Maurice) hostage and also harmed them, hence Caesar’s line to Koba before dropping him to his death: _"You are not Ape."_

What I love about this trilogy is the fact that throughout the entire movies, that theme, "apes together, strong" has been constant within each planet of the apes movie. Representing exactly that, even in the worst of times. 56:47 they still follow their instincts, Cesar said, apes seek the strongest branch, meaning, even though he's alive, and even though they know, Koba betrayed him. Like his son said, they follow him out of fear. Cesar has to regain their trust to let them know that he is strong. Not in the same way as Koba, but the way he's always been a kind understanding and unbreakable leader.

I love it when Caesar takes Malcolm by the neck and makes them touch their foreheads. Almost as if saying "I know. It's okay. You're one of the good ones. I respect you. Two different characters with a very different life but still wanting to find peace for their people.

I do think that Kobe started out genuinely being afraid of the humans and afraid for Caesar and the rest of the apes, but since his fears were partially unjustified (humans are sometimes good and can be reasoned with) and nobody was as worried as he was, he tried to seek out more information that validated his fear, radicalizing him to a point of hate.

I love that both sides (like Marvel's Captain America Civil War) have a valid reason and it's all shades of gray, not black and white. That makes no one a real villain. Even Koba is a victim, not a true villain as his motivations stem from his treatment for years in labs. If anything, he's a tragic character, not a villain. Movies like this are more true to life than a true "hero" and true "villain" in a movie.

@greyscalesx
@greyscalesx Жыл бұрын
It's motion capture. That's very difficult to with other animals..motion capture is done by actors. The dots capture their acting, movements but also their facial expressions etc. That's why it's so good, it's CGI on top of ppls faces, not just animation. It would be not only very creepy to have lions with human faces, but other animals crawl or walk on all fours. The movements would be off, unatural. It works only with human like beings. Like here the apes or like the na'avi in avatar. They just had to tape some of the actors fingers bc na'avi only have 4 and add the tail in animation. Like neytiri motion capture for example actress is Zoe Saldana who pays gamora in guardians of the galaxy.

@@greyscalesx I know it’s motion capture. But John Favroe, the guy who produced the Lion King remake talked about how high the budget for the remake was. So it would makes sense to me for him to have used motion capture. Also, they motion captured the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. If can motion capture that, they can motion capture Lions. Also, I don’t know what technology they used, but the Chronicles of Narnia gave Aslan, the lion a very expressive face. The Lion could’ve used what those producers used.

At the very end after the credits you can actually hear Koba’s breathing and sounds of rubble moving around (Koba probably trying to get outta the fallen debris around him). He was originally supposed to survive the fall and come back alive in ‘War Of The Planet Of The Apes’, but they felt it was too silly for him to survive a fall like that so they kept him dead. Personally I wouldn’t complain if they did bring him back alive as I love Koba’s character. His actor Toby Kebbell also did an amazing job!

I do feel for Koba, but It’s always been strange to me how it seems that only after Koba found out humans were still alive he seemingly descended back into madness. Like he seemed to be genuinely loyal to Caesar and saw him like a brother and was even a good friend to his son. We saw him grow to love Caesar and was very happy living in the village with his fellow apes. It’s like when he saw humans again his past came back to haunt him and he wanted to get rid of it once and for all and in doing so lost everything he had gained which was a family. He did things I don’t think he would’ve ever done if he hadn’t found out about the humans. His hatred for things done to him in the past was greater than the love he had gained in the future which is quite sad to see. Very amazing story writing and character development.

Caesar's patience and understanding is definitely because most of the apes (except ones that don't know humans) only really ever saw the bad and malicious side of humans.. they have no reason to trust them because they couldn't ever trust them and even Maurice mentioned that he only ever saw their bad side. Caesar on the other hand, was raised and loved by humans and was treated terribly by others so he knows both sides of humanity. He knows they aren't all bad and even has the ability to trust some if need be and that's the difference between him and Koba and what makes him a better leader than Koba could ever be. Koba only knows the bad of humans and would never be able to live in peace with them because of his ignorance and hatred toward humans. Caesar's knowledge of humanity is what makes him a good leader especially if they have to live in peace alongside humans. (I do not blame Koba for his hatred btw)

27:35 Caesar had every right to be pissed off during this scene. He cut these humans TONS of slack and let them do their work even tho it technically didn’t benefit him in any way because he had mercy on them. Plus he was already facing pressure from the other apes by trusting them so much, and they broke that trust! Brought in guns after he was very clear not to, and on top of that THREATENED his family. And Malcom had the audacity to tell Caesar to stop when he lost his cool. I was 100% rooting for the apes this whole freaking movie and didn’t care if humanity went extinct lol

I feel like part which Caesar sees Will on the video is him wondering “what if I had left with him the day I closed my cage door on him, how differently things could or would have turned out”. Not necessarily him regretting it or wanting to go back in time to make that decision, just him wondering and contemplating that idea of “if”.

I think the key idea of this movie is that apes and humans are on the same level. They both think they are superior for different reasons and it’s only the characters who can see both sides who try to stop this war from becoming bigger. There needed to be a large time skip so they movie could focus on the character relationships outside of the context of humans dying off first. I think it is far more interesting to do it that way and to pick up on relationships through acting and dialogue

Also if you really think about it not only did Koba start the war between apes and humans. But he kick-started the spread of the virus remember back in the first movie he was the one that knocked old buddy's mask off. As well as exposed the gas to him by doing that turning buddy into "patient 0" who then spread it by squeezing on the neighbor who was a pilot. So yeah all of this is somewhat Koba's fault.

The irony about Koba’s character is that his hatred for humans made him end up becoming just like them. His character took a massive turn so much so that he broke ape laws, enslaved his own kind, and even killed his fellow apes. Through his hatred for the humans he ended up becoming more like the them than any of the other apes. It’s like a great man once said: _”Now you have become the very thing you swore to destroy.”_

Koba believes Caesar is weak because he is unwilling to fight the humans. When in reality it makes Caesar a very wise leader. A good leader evaluates a situation and looks at all the alternatives and only chooses to fight if there is no other way. If you rush blindly into battle (like Koba) then you loose lives on both sides, which is what happened when Koba took over. Apes lost their lives to a war that could’ve been avoided if Koba hadn’t struck first. This is what Caesar was trying to tell Koba, if peace is an option than a good leader searches for it. War isn’t pretty and anyone who rushes blindly into it is a fool. Koba could have let go of his hatred, but instead he let rage guide him and let his past determine his fate.

I love how the film perpetuates the idea of humanity in both the apes and in the humans. Both sides have a human goal, both sides act out of fear and desperation. Both sides strive for love and a sustainable future with the ones they call family. Both sides are flawed and imperfect. Both sides when fear trumps reason, act out in violence. Both sides perpetuate the theme of the "Us Versus them" mentality. The concept is not a particularly complex one, its even in the name its Us Versus Them. We tend to take people in the out-group and pose them as the enemies, even if they're not and we tend to take people in the in-group and pose them as the heroes, even if they're not. We create superficial barriers between us and them in order to enable these mentalities and perpetuate an increasing fear for the them and reverence for the us (creating hostility and conflict over our differences). just perceived differences and separation can result in us versus them mentalities that can lead to very genuine conflict. This, therefore, makes the conflict in the film feel very real and extremely interpersonal to both the characters and us the audience because we can relate to both sides of the conflict. We can in turn relate to the internal lives of these characters. Most of what I said here was from an analytical video by StoryStreet which I recommend you watch, as it showcases even more themes present in the film that I didn't even catch when I first watched the film, which in turn made me appreciate this film and war for the planet of the apes even more. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/q951eLKB2JashZ8.html&ab_channel=StoryStreet

23:50 A bit of history, the battleship in the background was most likely meant to be USS Iowa (BB-61) since she was interned at Suisun Bay Reserve Fleet (near San Francisco) since 2001. Even though by 2010 the Iowa was being refitted to become a museum ship, the Navy donation contract states that the Navy can take back any donated ship for any reason. With the civil unrest that preceded this movie, the Navy likely retook possession of the Iowa for reactivation. A neat detail is that Turret 2 is out of alignment since Iowa's Turret 2 was never fully repaired after the 1989 explosion. There are a few details wrong with the Iowa's portrayal (e.g. missing conning tower, misplaced missile launchers) but it's a nicely modeled for the few brief moments it was shown. It's likely a CGI model (and it looks great considering the rest of the CGI in the film) but it looks like it could've been a physical miniature put in the background.

And Koba following Caesar’s orders. If the humans never showed up they’d probably still be allies. Since Koba wasn’t hungry for power, he just needed to be the leader to make the other apes attack the humans for his revenge.

21:20 hit nail on the coffin there. many of the apes look up to ceaser since he was the one pretty much "ascend" them to what they are now and for koba he respects ceaser for that. koba views on humans make sense since all his life before being freed he was a test subject. humans all they did to him was slice, inject, gas and other stuff to him to get results so that will lead to deep hatred towards them. deep down koba didnt want to kill ceaser but koba worries his ppl may go back to what they were if humans gain too much power, take over and ceaser doesnt stop them. so koba had to make a drastic choice which was the coup and war against humans.

Certain questions do come up when I think about the age expectancy for apes in this continuity of films. How long can they live? How long until they reach maturity/adulthood? Because Caesar's eldest son grows up pretty fast in the decade between the 1st film and this one. Caesar himself is 18 years old by this point, even though he is more like someone in their 30s with his mindset.
