When Django and Dr. Schultz meet Calvin Candie for the first time, the Italian man who is sitting on the other couch is Franco Nero, who made his breakthrough role as Django in Sergio Corbucci's 1966 film of the same name. That's why when Django says "the D is silent", he said: "I know." A small cameo, yet a beautiful homage to both the character and the original actor
@bernardkim8906
@bernardkim8906 3 жыл бұрын
When you watched D'Artagnan get ripped apart, you can really see the evil that is in Candie’s eyes, the composure in Django’s, and the disgust in Schultz’s. It really does serve as an important point of growth for Schultz, as he exposed tot the true horror of slavery and that’s what prompted to help Django as best as he can. He might have made things worse, no doubt, but he’s a much different person at the end compared to the beginning.

@anitaremenarova6662
@anitaremenarova6662 3 жыл бұрын
@@lordapollo3309 No it doesn´t. There exist examples of both archetypes that have never killed anyone. Being a villain means opposing the protagonist and being an anti-hero describes a character that is a "hero" but doesn´t posses the usual heroic attributes. Flynn Rider from tangled is a good example. Killing can be a part of a villain or an antihero but it´s not the factor which defines their character.

14:50 Phrenology is a pseudoscience which involves the measurement of bumps on the skull to predict mental traits. It is based on the concept that the brain is the organ of the mind, and that certain brain areas have localized, specific functions or modules. Although both of those ideas have a basis in reality, phrenology extrapolated beyond empirical knowledge in a way that departed from science. The central phrenological notion that measuring the contour of the skull can predict personality traits is discredited by empirical research. Developed by German physician Franz Joseph Gall in 1796, the discipline was influential in the 19th century, especially from about 1810 until 1840. The principal British centre for phrenology was Edinburgh, where the Edinburgh Phrenological Society was established in 1820.

Just Dr. Schultz happened to be a good guy on top of being a bounty hunter and a very competent and trained gun fighter. Now a days though yes! You have to be legally registered and everything. Now that doesn't necessarily mean even now a days there aren't pieces of crap that become Bounty Hunters for the thrill or just to beat people up. They're out there I'm sure. Bounty hunters, also called bail enforcement officers, apprehend fugitives who are running from law enforcement. It's the bounty hunter's job to lure fugitives out from hiding and bring them to justice. It's a dangerous and exciting career. Bounty hunters work with bail bondsmen. I wouldn’t say that having that position makes you a villain.
@Mr.Ekshin
@Mr.Ekshin 3 жыл бұрын
Bail enforcement officers (bounty hunters) execute legal warrants signed by judges. Back in those days, many of the warrants stipulated that the criminal to be apprehended could be returned to authorities either dead or alive, giving the bounty hunter free (and legal) reign to kill the named individuals when necessary. As for all the various 'henchmen' and other characters killed in this movie (who were not named in any warrant)... that would be a matter that would go to trial. My guess is that Django would be a wanted man after this, who would be tried in absentia, and thus would have a small army of bounty hunters after him.

Probably right after "Pulp Fiction," this is my next favorite Tarantino film. It's not just a genre piece that he tackles and puts his own spin on. It is very much a solid, satisfying action story, and it's so clear to see how much fun he and everyone involved in the production were having making it. Also, it is a positive that he does not once shy away from nor diminish the actual horrors of slavery. I feel that's just something that very much merits depiction in media if only because it is an atrocity that must not be forgotten.

in that scene where Leonardo Dicaprio smash the glass on the table, that was an accident and he is really bleeding and he just continued to shoot the scene (altough the blood he smears on Kerry Washington's face is fake, they did a cut and cleaned his hand before applying fake blood right after)

Re Dr Shultz's announcement that Alexandre Dumas was black: Alexandre Dumas's paternal grandmother was a slave of African-Caribbean descent bought by a French marquis to be his concubine in one of the French colonies (he also bought her daughter from an earlier relationship). He had two daughters and a son with her, the son was called Thomas-Alexandre. Before returning to France he sold her and her children (meaning both the daughter that she'd already had with someone else and his own three children with her) but bought Thomas-Alexandre back shortly afterwards and took him to France with him. In France Thomas-Alexandre eventually was given his freedom, and joined the French army, taking the name Dumas (either because he could not legally take his father's name, or as an act of defiance, I"m not sure which) which had apparently been given to his mother and apparently meant that she was farm property. At the age of 31, Thomas-Alexandre Dumas became the first man of African descent to be given the title and position of General in the French army, with 50,000 men at his command. Apparently due to a victory of his somewhere in Germany or Austria they started to refer to him in the region as 'the black devil'. He openly defied Napoleon on a personal level though he served in the army out of loyalty to the republic. When Napoleon became Emperor of France he reinstated many of the slave and race laws France had had before the revolution and from what I can tell did everything he could to make General Thomas-Alexandre Dumas's life as difficult as it could, including his marriage to a presumably white woman (all I know is that she was an innkeeper's daughter). Though he died when his son Alexandre was only three, it's believed (though not proven) that Alexandre Dumas based his leading characters on the stories he had heard about his father, thereby immortalising him in spite of Napoleon's attempts. So yes, Alexandre Dumas's approval of a slave being ripped to pieces would be dubious, and both his accomplishments and his father's accomplishments also put Monsieur Candie's beliefs about what black people are capable and incapable of doing into serious questioning. Along with the fact that some time before being given the title of General, Thomas-Alexandre was a lieutenant to Joseph Bologne, Chevalier de St-Georges who was a colonel in the first all-black regiment in Europe. Joseph Bologne was likewise the son of a minor French nobleman (or at least a planter) and a house slave, born in a French colony, taken to France and educated by his father who'd been given the title Chevalier and was well-known in France before the revolution for his (by all accounts) remarkable skills as a fencer, violinist, conductor and composer. There's a movie about him coming out next year, called 'Chevalier': kzfaq.info/get/bejne/Y7Kkdqx60sy3c58.html

When Candie slammed his hand on the table DiCaprio really sliced open his hand. His hand was actually bleeding during that scene. Tarantino kept it in.

I watch so many reactions now and yours was the funniest tbh. Also nice accent, what is it? Kiev or more Gomel? Also you can´t give Leonardo enough credit for his role. That scene where Candy breaks a glas when hitting the table, the blood was not fake. It was an accident, Leonardo severly cut his hand but stayed in character and played the scenes. What a legend.

That was Nick fury Samuel l Jackson plays in a lot of Tarantino movies. Fun fact when DiCaprio slaps the table and cuts his hand, that wasn't scripted he really did cut his hand and he didn't stop, they kept the shot because he was that good.

A couple of movies to add to the list:- - 1st: Natural Born Killers (1994). Written by Quentin Tarantino but directed by Oliver Stone. Features a pre-Tony-Stark Robert Downey Jr.. - 2nd: From Dust Till Dawn (1996). Written by (and starring) Quentin Tarantino but directed by Robert Rodriguez. Both are amazing movies!

Quentin Tarantino is very special, he did almost 9 movies in every specific genre he loves so much, on more is expected, his goal is to make 10. Everything has a meaning for him and as much as they can be different,all of them have something together and he knows exactly the cast for his movies. There's a documentary about Quentin Tarantino and his movies, very interesting I can highly recommend it.

Hey, I just wanna mention (and commend Leo for that to this day) that his scene at 15:25 leads to actual bleeding of Leo's hands after smashing the glass. He didn't stop acting and Tarantino just kept rolling cause he doesn't wanna break Leo's moment. You also guessed it right about Christoph Waltz being the villain of Inglorious Basterds that got him an Academy Award. He also won an Academy Award for this film. Both directed by Quentin Tarantino, the one Django's talking to in 18:01 Oh and yeah, that Old Butler Stephen there is Samuel Jackson. MCU's Nick Fury.

Yeah, Tarantino has his special signatures in his movies. It's not a mistake, it's his signature when Lara flies in a unreal direction and way. But I mean, not only that, the blood sprouting and face exploding etc. are also unreal. That's just Quentin Tarantino style, you either love it or hate it and I love it.

One of the coolest and great acting of Leonardo DiCaprio, as this is one of the reasons he is known as a great actor. It is that it wasn't planned or scripted that he would hit his hand on the glass on the table, He was suppose to just hit the table. But he accidentally hit the glass and started to bleed a lot, so that bleeding on his hand is real. 15:35 The crew of the set notice he started to bleed a lot from his hand and was on their way to abort the play, even Quentin Tarantino said he stod up from his chair and was gonna abort. But Leonardo continued acting and the crew went on with it. Truly a great actor and takes the role seriously.
