@@MrAlexarctica I mean, obviously weed is a drug. But also that definition makes any non-inert substance you ingest a drug. Hamburger? A drug. Water? A drug. Air? A drug. All of those things cause physiological changes in your body, none of them are drugs. Oh, but what if we say _psychological_ changes instead of physiological? Well then we've successfully knocked "air" off the list, but that's it. Because eating and drinking _anything_ causes a release of dopamine which is a mood altering chemical in the brain. So maybe pedantry over what is and isn't a drug isn't very useful to anyone? Maybe we should be concerned with whether or not a substance causes harm, instead of whether or not it meets the dictionary definition of something we've been told is naughty?

These commercials brought back to an incredible time growing up waking up every Saturday mornings on Kids WB and coming home after school watching weekday afternoons watching Jackie Chan Adventures, Mucha Lucha, Xiaolin Showdown, Transformers: Cybertron, The Batman, Pokémon Johto League Adverntures or Chronicles and of course Yu-Gi-Oh!. To me the classic shows were that but the one that impacted me my whole entire life was Yu-Gi-Oh! It made me led to believe I would beg for my parents to buy me starter decks and structure decks but my parents say no until 2002 I got me both Yugi and Kaiba Starter Decks. Seeing all of these commercials brought me back nostalgia, it's never seen on TV anymore but Konami used commercials for duel packs and starter decks of their respective seasons. I've never gotten any action figures but the one model kit I got from my dad when I was 14 was the one and only Slifer the Sky Dragon model kit. I opened the box and the beauty of it was the pieces with instructions got me so crazed with putting them together, no clue or tape. Press and click the pieces, put it in a stand and you got Slifer striking its menacing stare when it's summoned. You guys made this review just takes me back. For us kids I'm happy to say it made our childhoods awesome and these gems are etched in our hearts and minds for a long time. Had it happened today meaning if Konami set up more action figures and other products in conjuction with Mattel, Hasbro or any toy company we'll go crazy and kids today would beg parents for more like we did to fall in love and grasp Yu-Gi-Oh! in all its glory. What a treasure. And people, children, please don't do drugs. Have faith and believe in the Heart of the Cards.

I had the exodia, the gate guardian, and the red eyes models. I think the red eyes model had these really soft and flexible wings and as a result, they came out of the box SUPER warped and never looked right. At least I have this vague memory of that, awakened by seeing those wings in the commercial. I think I actually broke it by like, trying to use boiling water and clamps to try and straighten them.

I did have one of those Yugioh Model kits because my best friend gave it to me on my Birthday way back in 2002. it was the Blue Eyes Ultimate Dragon that could also be a normal blue eyes white dragon if you didn't mind big gaping holes, and of course it was made out of the cheapest paint so naturally the wings looked like garbage within 6 months.

I remember a 2003 issue of U.S. Shonen Jump that was advertising the toys for the battle city arc, including the Dark Magician Girl with the magical cylinder launcher. Over a decade later, Figma released a high articulation DMG figurine that was 8 times more expensive than what Mattel was distributed.

That first commercial I remember having the Exodia one from Kmart. It looked awesome, but got tired of it really quick because it was too stiff and had a terribly loud and tinny noise when you pressed the button on his back. I also remember those duel blades as well. My friend had two of them. They looked pretty cool when you had them on, but dueling with them was not practical at all. Your arm gets tired really quick from the weight and straps. In the end we just ended up playing with them on the floor. 😆

I never saw the toy commercials. I saw the figures in all kinds of stores but not so much the models. The one exception was when visiting my grandparents on the east coast in upstate New York. This was well before Big Lots was loctaed here in my part of California so we would always shop there when we went to the east coast. For those who dont have one, it is a store that bulk purcheses unsold stock from other stores then sells the products at a discount from the MSRP but still higher than what they bought it for. It is a lot like thw Dollar tree but they have everything from food to furniture. One year they had a bunch of the Harpies' Pet Dragon figures on the shelf for a few dollars so I nabbed one. It was presented as a model but having already been somewhat into Gundam and real work vehicle models it felt very misadvertised. Rather than designed like a true model it was essentially a build a figure or unassembled toy. The commercial you showed better expresses the simplicity of it much better than box advertising. I honestly wasn't dissappinted in the overall figure since it was still a legibly decent toy of a lesser but still cool monster from the show. Being able to easily afford it with my vacation money also helped. Had I had to pay full price, I likely would have been so pleased however, likly accounting for its appearance at the discount store. It did feel really magical though to find something like this at one of those stores as well. As an adult and in the current day with stores like that all over the place, it isn't such a big thrill. As a kid however, it felt like a big deal to come across a brand name product I genuinely liked at one of those stores. Even something like the figure I got was still a treasure because it was an officially licensed Yugioh toy I had never even heard of, affordable to me with the little money I may have had leftover from a holiday. Something similar happened years later when I was in college at the blockbuster that opened up down the street from my parents house and my college. They had a small rack with novelties at a mark down price. These oftwn included third party repackaged blisters of old TCGs including Yugioh. That is actually where I got my copies of the Wind, Water, Earth, Fire, Warrior and Spellcaster Structure decks. They were marked down to $2 and $5 dollars at times so I would grab multiples. They even had huge combo boxes once that came with the water deck and a few loose GX packs. I think I grabbed a few for $5 or $7 a piece at the time. I remember pack with with Air Neos on the front had a couple stuffed in each box. Seeing now how expensive those decks and packs are makes me wish I held onto them over opening and trading away the things I didn't need. It helped me rebuild my collection to play with my friends at college adorably though so I don't really regret it. Even if they were considered less than great cards at the time, they enabled me to play something with real strategy and I likly wouldn't know they are worth something now if I didn't get them to open then. I also remember a bunch of failed TCG and other products on those shelves. Creepy Freaks was one of them you would see started boxes for marked down to a few bunch but never really getting bought. Soon after those things would start winding up at the Dollar tree anyway so it was no longer a good deal. You would start seeing thinga like Dinosaur king and Shaman king decks at the dollar stores all the time suddenly. Even Cyberdark impact showed up there at one point for a dollar a pack. Since it was considered a crappy pack even at the time, no one cared too much but I still thought it was cool for the price. My parents got me an entire box for my birthday so I dodnt just get sadled with commons. I honestly loved the Cyberdarks so pulling an affordable playset was awesome. I also collected Ultimate rates of any kind and got a few nice ones. I got a couple copies of vanities ruler and fiend before they were as big as they got and even had one of them in Ulti rare. I remember attempting to build an anti-meta troll deck using the barrier statues and Vanitys monsters as bosses to lock out special summons of any kind. This was when Hero Fusion and Synchro were big so it never had a real strategy to win by but disrupted a lot of strategies in fun ways for decks that typically won effortlessly. Making my friends have to work for the win with some of thier most formulaic combo reliant decks was worth the loss.

Being a 2000's kid, these toy commercials were the shit! Bakugan, Beyblade, Ben 10, Battle Strikers, Yu-Gi-Oh, Nerf, Transformers, you name it, they all had it! One particular thing that I noticed is they all made these game look like illegal, underground events that kids and teens always attended and compete to see who's king of the streets.

Ironically, I did end up getting the Obelisk model kit, appx. months after it had advertised, funny as at the store I had sought out Slifer, and at the time only available was so. I didn't quite remember Obelisk from the ad, yet Obelisk like powerhouse "divine" cards were a trend for me- Raviel, Wicked Dreadroot, etc. wherein I would usually wind up with the physical monstrosity, then steps later usually the whole cast. Even with Red Dragon Archfiend this occured, being that I had ended up with major protagonist pulls, only to nearly have that mirrored with Jack Atlas
