Its still hurts. 23 years later it still hurts. When you're playing the game for the first time it really doesn't sink in that you are playing what amounts to what is probably the single greatest piece of art in the video game space period. This game was nearly flawless in terms of execution, payoff, comeuppance, tragedy, and victory. In those 23 years I have not played a game like it since.

@@thegame346 I concur, FFX definitely has the saddest ending of any FF. However, I believe if compared and contrasted, FFVI had a slightly better story. Don't get me wrong, every FF 1 - 10 were good in their own right. But, I hold FFVI as king among titles.

lets not forget that ending is so perfect because along the journey we truly fell in love with the cast. i dont think there is another video game that has such a build up and delivers on it. people throw around the word masterpiece a little too often and it is subjective. but i dont think there are many that gave this game a fair chance and will disagree in the end that this game is one of the best ever made. and while i would love to see a remake i doubt it can life up to this and also i would be scared shitless to be the one that has to try and make this. it is as close to perfection to me as it ever gets. that is not replicable imho but i would love to be proven wrong

This game is basically heartbreak incarnate. Even after giving you hope that Yuna won't have to die, you realize they still won't be together because Tidus isn't even real. He's the faith of someone who died long ago, and when the faith goes, so does he. What's even more heartbreaking is that Yuna had prepared herself for years for her end, only to end up alive and devastated.

I may be wrong but I think it's more the other way around, Tidus is the equivalent of an Aeon, summoned to Spira to help end the cycle of death, and following that logic Shuyin is the fayth/basis for the Aeon that is Tidus. This is my headcanon at least.

@@fernandonascimento4692 According to the fayth of Bahamut, Tidus and Jecht are both unique because they have been touched by sin. If anything, Jecht was the on summoned, because he started the entire ordeal. Tidus only made it to Spiral because of Jecht and Auron.

@@Maniac742 Ah I see, I stand corrected on that point then, but what I meant was that "technically" everyone in dream zanarkand could be considered an Aeon, bound to one of the Fayth's on the wall at Mt. Gagazet. But thank you for correcting me on the "unique" status of Jecht and Tidus. I need to replay this game and get hurt again xD

@@Maniac742Tidus and Jecht were not technically 'unique'. They were just the next fayth that were linked to Sin. This has happened 5 times prior to this with different people. However, they all chose to keep the cycle going with the Final summoning with Yunalesca starting with her doing it first with her husband. Seymour and his mother were also in this same position as shown in the game. We do not know who the other 2 pairs were.

Tidus faded in the end because he was just a dream of the fayth. They conjured him into Spira because they somehow saw that he was the one to help set them all free from Yevon.

23 years ago.... this ending shocked me. I remember in FF7, one of the most beloved characters in any of the Final Fantasy series was killed half-way through the game. Many, me included, spent the entire rest of the game trying to find a way to get her to come back, and it never happened. FFX essentially killed the main character at the end. I know this ending was why this was the first of the series to get a sequel, as if to try to return things to a better ending.

So the Aeons part of this game was Yu Yevon trying to merge with the final Aeon, but because it's regular Aeons he wasn't gonna get enough power, but even so, as killing the Aeons it's also a part of getting Yu Yevon out since it takes him a few years to regain the strength of Sin which is the time of calm. You cannot die in the battle due to Auto Life, the game doesn't want you to lose this fight since it's a very emotional ending.

It's also a failsafe against punishing you for powering your Aeons. Each of them will easily destroy the entire party.

I know it's been 7 months, but you seemed really confused during the last flight, so I feel compelled as a know it all autistic girl to explain some things. Yes, you're right, you can't die during the last flight, that's why you don't need a save sphere. You have to kill all your aeons so Yu Yevon has nowhere else to run. If there's an aeon, he's going to possess it. That's what he does. I'm like, OBSESSED with Final Fantasy, and 10 is my absolute favorite. If you have any questions, I likely have answers. The ending kills me every time I see it. I don't know how, but I ended up with a bunch of videos on my feed of the last moments of this game and the people playing it for the first time. So every time I feel like I could use a good cry, I watch them. 😂
