Hey Mark, I spent 5 weeks in Jordan last year and it changed my world view of the Arab world. My best friend and his family live in Amman. The food, culture, language, hospitality, THE TRAFFIC in the city... It was an amazing period for me and one I will never forget. This is why I love your content. I’m constantly forwarding your material to Zaid and we laugh ourselves off the couch ! Thank you- I live in Chicago and Zaid remains in Amman with his family. Thank goodness for WhatsApp, right ? I work for a very large international airline at O’Hare Airport. Now, when I get the chance to help a person who hands me a passport from an Arab country... my heart leaps and They Are Family. This is how it has changed me.

non arab here, from greece though, and i keep realizing our cultures have so much in common. i was always in love with arabic culture since i was a kid pretty much. listening to arabic music, hanging out with arabs, and now belly dancing and learning the language. growing up and meeting more people from arab countries gave me mostly possitive impression maybe cuz i always show them my passion about this culture. i have to say though that some of them i found a bit particular when i tried to talk to them in arabic, they seemed a bit suspicious, not a very possitive reaction, idk why. generally what i like is the people i met are warm, expressive, outgoing, artistic, and talented. things i didnt really appreciate are that some dont respect personal space but this applies to other cultures too (greeks for sure). on arabic culture there are sooo many things to say since it has been around for so many centuries and in a lot of countries. i dont know where to start from, cinema, music, dancing, poetry, singing, food, history, science, architecture, traditions... thanks again Mark for another enjoyable video. Allah ma3ak! 3ala fikra, this vid just distractes me from studying arabic :p

I'm moroccan (technically north African by ethnicity lol) and I recognize that I don't really rejoice when I hear someone trying to speak in Arabic for one reason: I'm usually confused about the right thing to do: should I speak (Moroccan) Arabic? I tend to speak fast and even my own mother can't always follow me hahaha, would that person understand? What if they're just trying to be "nice" and if I answer in Arabic, I might just embarrass them? So it's not always a matter of suspicion, it can be smth else... In some other times, I might feel that the person is trying to be "funny" by speaking a few words and I keep a straight face because I don't believe that my language is some funny material... I hope my explanation can help and good luck in learning Arabic, you must know that it might take more time than other languages because you'll need the standardized Arabic AND a dialect to use in your daily life... If you're living in Europe, try a north African one (algerian and Moroccan are similar) because even new middle Eastern immigrants tend to learn it because the older established communities are north African (except egypt).

Growing up with Lebanese parents in Australia, I rejected my “Arab” heritage for many years because it meant growing up as a hairy big nosed girl in a misogynistic culture. I now love and relish my Lebanese Maronite Catholic heritage and love your channel! To me, it means growing up with HEART, SOUL and PASSION for life and family and loved ones, oozing generosity, ambition, and innate desire to be the best version of ourselves. Also, so much respect and love for women, which I can now see with a more mature mind. A woman serving her husband, brother or son is out of pure love. And the right man will also serve his sister, mother, daughter with everything he’s got too.

Hello Mark. Love your channel, not only do you make me laugh every time but you also educate me on all things Arabic. I am Canadian, born in Nova Scotia and from a Belgian (Father) and German/Austrian (Mother, possibly part Jewish) background, so I am white as white can be. LOL My fiancé, Ritta, is Canadian Assyrian "Arabic". Her parents are from Jerusalem and Jordan however her and her older sister were both born in Iraq. Ritta's family moved to Hamilton Ontario when Ritta was only one year old so she is basically Canadian. I witness a lot examples (and hear a lot of tales from her siblings and cousins) of a lot of "Arabic things" you mention when we go to Ritta's mom's for dinner. Her mom is so sweet and so nice to me that it makes it very difficult for me to believe all the stories of flying sandals and wooden spoons. Hahahaaaa! Ritta and I are getting married in October 2023 so I'm watching your channel to try and pick up some Arabic on my own to try and impress her family. LOL

I really really enjoy your videos! It will be more time consuming but I think many, undoubtedly me, would greatly appreciate Arabic subtitles to go along with the translations you add so that I can learn. I have studied and in literate so im just learning from what I see and hear now.

I’m born in New Zealand but grew up in Sydney Australia (West Sydney) in a suburb predominantly middle eastern, Lebanese influence, therefore learning a lot of Arabic and enjoying the food through my friends families’, have a lot of respect and love for them as they do for me. Feels a lot like family to me and it is very similar to us kiwis. Yullah bye 👋🏽

literally same stuff apply for muslims here in Bosnia, muslim parents are very traditional and we have these inside jokes, behavior etiquettes and social views 😅 even traditional music and dance moves are similar hahaha
