There's something about a punk version of a Byrds song. Lol. The cover was created during the recording session of their album Zen Arcade as a warm-up song. It wasn't released on the album either. For a long time I thought Hüsker Dü was a European band because of the umlauts in their name.

@@jerithompson6303 Hüsker Dü were always the darlings of critics and the "feuilletons". They were undoubtedly one of the most influential punk bands of their time and the emergence of alternative rock is largely attributed to them. The song is an angry attack on a musical pillar of the hippie generation, distorted almost beyond recognition and yet retaining its character in the essential melody structure. It was released as a single in advance of the album and re-released as an EP in 1990 after their dissolution. An indication of its importance. It was not on the album for conceptual reasons.

@@jerithompson6303 I have to admit that I don't know what the feuilleton is called in English, which is why I put it in quotation marks in the hope that people will understand what I mean. The feuilleton includes the arts and culture pages of the mostly serious and intellectual periodicals that I have listed in contrast to the "normal" critics of the music press. In the 1980s it was quite unusual for punk music to make it onto the arts and culture pages. Long story short, the critics loved them. Sorry for not being clearer.

I've heard of Husker Du but I don't remember any of their songs. Apparently from what perrosol-ns4cc8ot4t said, this song was meant to be forgotten. It sounds like they recorded it in their parents garage. 👎 Eight Miles High on the other hand I've heard hundreds of times. Good trippy 60s song by The Byrds.
