I'll recommend the "Keep Your Head Up" PMV by Mr. Know It All! It features a story and characters you're already familiar with, though the story is portrayed in a different light than in most MAPs. I won't spoil anymore, but I hope you'll check it out!

Theres another animation that is equal in quality and vocal talent that is actually from the villain sister's point of view! Its called The Moon Rises by Duo Cartoonist. It was unfortunately taken down but there are a couple reuploads so you can still watch it.

Lullaby for a Princess is a lovely fan adaptation of some lore from the MLP show. There are two sisters that keep balance for the land of Equestria (which is the land they rule over) by raising the Sun and the Moon every day and night. The younger sister Luna wasn't as beloved as her elder sister Celestia so she unfortunately had a lot of bad feelings within her. This took over one day and turned her into a darker version of herself, named Nightmare Moon. Celestia had to battle with her little sister for the fate of Equestria, as Luna had planned to never let the sun rise again. She used some powerful artifacts called the Elements of Harmony to seal her sister in the moon for 1000 years. The first two episodes of My Little Pony take place during the day that Nightmare Moon is finally released from her prison on the moon and tries to once again take over Equestria. The Two Sisters (as the fandom likes to call them) and their lore are definitely fan favorites. There are so many animations out there of them that I recommend checking out like: - The Moon Rises (which is from the point of view of the younger sister, Luna, during her downfall) - Fall of the Crystal Empire (the Two Sisters fight an evil unicorn named King Sombra, which is also an actual event that happened in MLP Lore and it takes place before Luna's Downfall and banishment) - Spare (this is also in the point of view of Luna, coming to terms with the fact that she's not as great as her older sister. It's more wholesome than sad but remember to watch the credits for that one, it has a little animation with it)

you got the story almost spot on (I say with my limited mlp knowledge), this animation is a semi canon depiction of lore not shown in the mlp show. her sister was sealed in the moon for hundreds of years after the two fought over rule and every night celestia was given the task of making the moon set aka saying goodbye/goodnight to her sister. dw in the show luna breaks through the seal on the moon eventually

I have two recommended videos that may be worth you watching "The Moon Rises Animation Reupload" by PonyPerservation and "The Fall of the Crystal Empire - MLP Fan Animation by SFS Animation. The first one takes place before 'Lullaby For a Princess' and second takes place before 'The Moon Rises' as well as the second one has a lot of action to it. I hope you enjoy them if you do!

Totally need to do The Moon Rises. It's a very good counterpart to this.

yass such a classic animation I highly recommend the "Escape from Divinity" animatics by Toastyglow - they are sooo good, I find myself going back and rewatching them even after years. There are 4 parts if I remember correctly but part 1 will always be a fav of mine. It is not really tied to any fandom in particular- if anything I'd say it's more Dungeons & Dragons inspired as a whole.
