I criticized you for wasting your time on irrelevant petty internet beef with Guru this past week but I have got to praise you for calling out Guru on his totally misguided take on the Chandler adoption choice. Nothing wrong with getting a black brother for his first adopted black son if that’s also his son’s preference. Why the hell would he get him anything other than a black brother? If HAP had a white or Asian brother, he would have to spend the rest of his life answering questions to strangers and repeat his whole adoption story anytime he would introduce his adopted white or asian brother as his brother. Now people won’t even notice that he is adopted when he is out in public with his brother and they will stop bothering him with questions about his personal life. That’s a big advantage. Also it will be easier and more of a chance to bond over the same interests with a brother that looks like him when they grow up.

Race either matters or it doesn’t at all though. You can’t say race doesn’t matter then say he needs a black brother because they’ll bond better together. That was gurus main point. Chandler says race doesn’t matter but then wants his adopted sons sibling to look like him.

@@JA-jx1hk It does not matter from the point of view of how the values you should teach your kids. That doesnt mean you ignore that identifying as black still matter. You can teach universal values to kids of any color without denying your race. And giving HAP a black brother may help HAP be less confused about living in a white family with no one looking like him. Whatever may help HAP to have a normal development from any other black kid being raised by biological parent should be tried.
