The toy soldier story is likely a reference to the Tin Soldier story, about a Tin Soldier that was thrown into a fire and melted into a tin heart.

There are two problems with that. Firstly, Genshin is the type of game that doesn't really need tanks. The whole point of an endgame is to clear the abyss chambers as fast as you can, so the more dps the better. There are no raid bosses or endless waves or anything that requires strong sustain. Secondly, she's not a very good tank honestly. Her damage mitigation is pretty small, her self-sustain is weak and she provides less resistance to interruption than freakin' Xingqiu. I love Dehya's personality and design (I went for her on her banner and triple crowned her, that should say enough) but Hoyo just failed to make her a good character gameplay-wise sadly, regardless of what role you think she performs.

@Keiki-kun there's a reason why people backlashed on Zhongli on his initial release so much that hoyo buffed him making him the only character in the entire game to this day receiving direct buff. He was only a shielder back than and they added resistance shred to his kit. That said, shielding and tanking are very different types of defense mechanics. Shielding doesn't require field time, which is crucial in Genshin's endgame, where everything is about time. And if we don't consider abyss, well there's nothing to talk about in the first place at all because the rest of the game can be played by solo-Barbara.

the problem is she doesn't particularly excel at anything, even as a tank. 1. if you decided to not acknowledge her dps capabilities, her burst might aswell just not exist cause it's supposed to deal damage and literally "nothing else" to support her kit as a tank. so by converting her to a full tank, you just have a character that only has one skill which is not that good by itself for reason #3 2. usually with characters, especially five stars, they can do more than just one thing. like for kokomi, she not only can heal consistently but has insane hydro application aswell. dehya doesn't get that luxury because she literally is just a dps+tank, and the dps part is something not even you wants to acknowledge because it's not good. 3. well what about her role as a tank? her damage mitigation doesn't give enough survivability for the team, so a healer would still be necessary. you'd expect five star characters with one role to excel at it but dehya just can't work as a sole defender cause she's not good enough to sustain by herself. even with a good build there will be times where the damage will outpace her self-heal especially when she goes on-field. i only wanna mention this because there are legitimate reasons on why people dislike dehya and it's not because they're incorrect about her or know nothing about her. its fine to accept that she's not good in comparison to other characters, hoyoverse made her very underwhelming "on purpose" with the amounts of nerfs she received days before release. of course this is not to discourage you from using her or anything if you like the character but its also not right to discredit why people complain about her in the first place
