I'm seeing this more and more on the KZfaq community. Collaborations just increase everyone's viewership. It's where being helpful and collaborative and friendly becomes a benefit. Opposite this is the extreme capitalist mentality of us against them, as competitors trying to steal customers away from each other. I hope my meaning can be understood. The brain's not working so well today. Mary could make this more lyrical!

i don't think there's a single guitar player whose "knowledge of music is huge". most of the work is done for them already and they never face the real challenges. because of that it is hard to consider guitar a real instrument, more an instrument for the masses to plink on. when somebody like beto talks about classical composers it;s especially ludicrous and wrong and misunderstood, and the guitar players don't know the difference

I think there is still a place for labels, but not for every one of them. Some labels have a great editorial line that makes them worth following, and more than often this kind of labels try to find and expose artists they genuinely believe in and matches their vision of what great music is (I think of Peliagic Records for example). That said, most labels don't seem to be like that and are more interested by trends and money that music and artists, those one are likely to die, no big loss.

Ok but stepping it back. What is anyone trying to do!? - Whether they be record cos, KZfaq content producers, or 'independant' musicians!? Answer - Get noticed! And promote their music, goods, channel etc!! And hopefully earn an income from their efforts! And i have no issue with that!! We all need money!! So as a music co. Say we like somebody and their music. Therefore we approach the artist/group. And are prepared to invest money. And put management and promotional resources into the deal. Plus industry connections! In other words. We like what you are doing. We see your talent and potential. If you are interested we are open to reaching a deal! And even though it involves music - which most of us love!! And is something special to us. Nevertheless at that level. It is a business deal! In which both parties are bringing something to the table!! And personally. I wouldnt be interested in anything that isnt fair and equitable!! Who needs that hassle!!!? Nor would we want to take over the artistic life of anybody! - Outside of offering constructive knowledge and advice. And since none of us know everything to start with. Only a dunce wouldn't, at least be open to listening to that! But the final say on artistic matters and style - stays with the artist! You can't own people as such!! And that would be made clear!! After all that is what interested us in the first place!! Anyway the upshot is....In any deal. Once you have a contract! You cannot expect to have everything your own way!! When both parties are making an investment!! 1 example. A few years back. A friend and i were asked by a record co. To go and speak to a band that had been given an initial development grant amounting to several thousand dollars? In todays money maybe equating to around $300,000. Anyway, we were asked to give them a 'tickle up'. As they were a no show! They hadn't been to any studio in about 8 months or so! What we found was...Having received this money! These guys were living the 'rock star lifesyle!' Only they were not putting in the effort!! The point is problems with these deals are not one sided!! Anyway, in the end. Everyone has the option of seeking good advice. And if they are not happy! Both sides can say no to any contract!!

Sorry my encounter with Rick showed me that he does not realize the meaning ship of censorship. During The Joe Rogan, Neil Young episode, basically because he liked Neil Young he claimed Joe Rogan needed to be pulled from Spotify. I believe in freedom of speech, but when you demand somebody else be pulled then you're committing censorship.

@@davidtaylor351 the love of creating, performing, discovering, or listening to music isn't limited to those who have a need to earn a living. I work in a very demanding, esoteric, and analytical field. Writing and arranging music is how I retain my sanity and reconnect with what makes me human. Sure, I probably have some mild talent and skill, but I'm the quintessential definition of an amateur hack. I don't need to perform or chart for music to bring me joy. If I had to rely on performing, I would get little out of music because the nature of my job makes that next to impossible. That said, I will always support those who love what I love and are trying to feed themselves and their family with it, whether they're a busker on the corner, a solo guitarist in a bar, or a band with a great sound. You do what you do and play what you play and I'll have your back. I appreciate your comments and dedication.

There was something to be said about wandering around a record store when I was younger, buying some random album, and discovering something good. I know you can sample stuff today, but it’s not the same feeling. That’s one of the few things that record labels allowed, but they were always looking for the next Beatles, Eagles, U2, etc. and not so much finding something new. I love your channel. You never seem to be someone other than who you really are and you love what you do. Thanks.

I have dabbled in alt rock, folkish stuff, and in between to find my audience/voice, but my main interest is metal. I like prog metal in my repertoire but as a solo musician, not having a good vocal, haven''t quite achieved that goal, so general heavy metal it has been leaning towards. But hearing you give credibility to the metal scene is refreshing and encouraging.

I really admire the fact that Mary is willing to bring us along her journey as a singer/songwriter and clearly enjoys it. I feel very lucky to have such honest and straightforward insights into her world and the music. There were a couple moments in the video where it felt somewhat magical - when she mentioned her unreleased song (I watched it the other day 💗), and then there was some music playing in the background which just fit perfectly with the topic. Thanks Mary! Kudos to Rick for the shoutout. 👍

I love CD’s, I love reading about how the songs came about and how the music was put together. Also love looking for familiar names while reading the credits. You can’t do that doing a quick MP3 download. Remember, people thought vinyl was dead, but it’s made a comeback and refuses to die. That alone speaks volumes.
@stevenuttley

CD sales went went up last year and they still outsell vinyl (vinyl sells more in monetary terms because it's more expensive). Artists make nothing from streaming and downloads are truly dead. Apart from live performance physical media are most artists only viable income stream and music costs a lot to make.

It’s fascinating to see the shift in the music industry and how performers/creators like yourself have utilized KZfaq and other services to share your work. As a fairly new KZfaq creator, it’s also gratifying to hear that videos can have a resurgence long after they are posted. Lastly, your audio and video quality for this video were amazing. The ambient background noise wasn’t distracting and actually added some energy to your video. There are so many KZfaq creators who can’t get that kind of quality in a controlled environment, like a studio. Well done, Mary. Cheers!
