She is amazing and humble, this is a traditional Korean folk song and the song speaks of the hopes South and North Korea will become one. At the beginning her sweet voice depicts the peaceful land of Morning Calm. But War caused sky gets dark so she screams to express anger and grief for the families lost in the wars. Then she sings with a strong tone to fight the bad guys. The mood becomes brighter as the country is recovering from the ruins. So she sing the original song of Arirang Folk. Then she explodes shouting the glory and joy of modern Korea's prosperity. At last she returns to the calm voice to tell people that Korea would once again be peaceful as before...

Wooow~ This is much better than perfect performance. I think she is the best singer of all time.

This song is so important for Koreans. It is about the reunification of North and South Korea. There are over 600 versions of the song Arirang. This verison, Hanibol, Arirang Alone is the most emotional of them in my meaning. Kim Sohyang cried during rehearsals because of the emotions it brings out in Koreans. The song includes parts, hold hands together, we walk over the arirang hill- we are unified. Hanibol meant for both north and south to meet at Dokoyda Island in the Eastern Sea. Reunification has actually never been more close than now. Today North and South met for the first time in years. I hope Sohyang sings this with a North Korean singer on Dokoyda Island with ships around.

Sohyang is a forty year old protestant Christian Contemporary Music (CCM)/Gospel singer from South Korea. She has been singing her ass off for more than 20 years now, mostly in churches and Christian benefits. She sings for God, not for fame or glory/money, which is a reason she is not known a lot outside of South Korea (many local and international companies tried to sign her, but she refused). A devout Christian and a cancer survivor (she lost as a 20 year old newlywed the ability to have children due to cervical cancer), Sohyang is considered by some to be one of the best vocalists in Asia, and from time to time she enters singing competitions in Korea where she impresses with her voice and stage presence, re-arranging known songs and covering them live. She is really a very inspiring artist and person, and over the years she has made a lot of pretty incredible performances, each and every one a sight to behold. If you want to see more from her, here are two more suggestions : 1> "Where are you" - If you want to see a truly emotional performance from her, and one that really relates the lyrics and makes you feel what she exactly feels, take a look at her live cover of that sad ballad. You will see Sohyang change completely the way that she uses her vowels, and also manipulate her voice volume linearly as the song goes on to simulate the emotion of a woman after a bad break-up getting more desperate and frustrated as she talks/cries about it. The song may start a little boring (from a vocal technique point of view), but the way she builds the performance to the climax and ends it is for the history books, really.
