Hey Friends, it's been a while. Go check out my community tab if you're interested to know where I've been. I wanted to come back with this video because I've just got a copy of the Upanishads and Swami Sarvapriyananda is SO inspiring and makes this sort of content accessible
I know you guys will help me out in the comments here to help me understand these teachings. 🙏 I've missed out chats and will try and get back to as many comments as I can.

The Vedas are generally considered to have two portions viz., Karma-Kanda (portion dealing with action or rituals) and Jnana-Kanda (portion dealing with knowledge). The Samhita and the Brahmanas represent mainly theKarma-Kanda or the ritual portion, while the Upanishads chiefly represent the Jnana-Kanda or the knowledge portion. The Upanishads, however, are included in the Shruti. They are at present, the most popular and extensively read Vedic texts. The Upanishads are often called 'Vedanta'. Literally, Vedanta means the end of Veda, Vedasya antah, the conclusion (Anta) as well as the goal (Anta) of the Vedas. Chronologically they came at the end of the Vedic period. As Upanishads contain difficult discussions of ultimate philosophical problems, they were taught to the pupils at about the end of their course. The chief reason why the Upanishads are called the end of the Veda' is that they represent the central aim of the Veda and contain the highest and ultimate goal of the Veda as they deal with Moksha or Supreme Bliss.

Wow, thank you so much for sharing this knowledge. I find it helpful to digest when it's all written down with such a clear explanation. I looked up the term Samhita "Saṃhitā also refers to the most ancient layer of text in the Vedas, consisting of mantras, hymns, prayers, litanies and benedictions." so will be easier to understand next time thank you. I appreciate your support 💜🙏🙏

I attended swami Tadatmananda (a learned american swami) lectures in NJ 10-15 years back in his Ashram. Wonderful unconditional human being. Mainly for his lovely talks followed by meditation and snacks 😊. Swami sarvapriyananda also is easy to follow. Maybe follow one for a while lest one gets confused.

The word 'Upanishad' has been derived from the root Sad (to sit), to which are added two prefixes: Upa and Ni. The prefix Upa denotes nearness and Ni totality. Thus, this word means 'sitting near by devotedly'. This no doubt refers to the pupil's sitting down near his teacher at the time of instruction. The word in course of time gathered round it the sense of secret teaching or secret doctrine (Rahasya) which was imparted at such sittings. Upanishads are frequently spoken of as Rahasya (secret) or Guhya (mystery) also.

3:26 : yes correct, vedas means to know.. Not just to believe but to know.. Hence upanishads are full of questions and answers.. Doubts and answers... fully allowed to ask questions and to do practice until you understand and realize it 4:45 : correct.. Upanishads are the final crux, juice and essence of vedas 14:35 : vedas are divided in 2 parts 1. Karma kanda (rituals and duties - related with actions and work) 2. Gyan kand (gyan means supreme knowledge - knowing the exact nature of everything around body mind cosmos and finally knowing the eternal truth beyond all the heavens) Upanishads falls in gyan kand the knowledge part..

This is so useful; thank you so much for taking the time to leave this comment. I have heard a lot of emphasis between believing and knowing in the things I have watched so far. I guess that is an important distinction! "...knowing the eternal truth beyond all the heavens" is a powerful statement 💟

Thanks for this. About the Karma Kanda - The ritualistic portion for worldly desires - only when you get what you desire you will realise there is no permanent happiness in them after which, one will move onto the spiritual stuff, which is the upanishads. The other way is you face too many devastating problems in your life which lead to anxiety, depression and so on and that is when you set out to look for answers! Some find the answers in chemicals (drugs) and get lost even more and some luckily stumble upnon things like Upanishads and so on.

Great comment, thank you. So true, I think it's a story as old as time that whenever people finally get all the things they desired they realise the happiness is fleeting and just go on to desire more. I guess that's why the Stoics said said "learn to desire what you already have" and then I guess the upanishads etc will teach us to do away with desire altogether?
