The thing that really gets me about this movie is how infuriatingly and heartbreakingly true it is when it comes to the very real, very pervasive issue of sex trafficking of women and young girls so prevalent in this world. It truly depresses me.

He is correct in that this happens much more than people realize. Tourists and foreigners make very good targets. @@whitenoisereacts Perhaps in the US, but in Europe there are so many immigrants moving westward from the middle east and eastern Europe at risk from this kind of predatory behavior, and I can definitely see this kind of trick working on many of them, especially the uneducated and unwary. Once they have you and degrade you it's always going to be harder to feel like you can just run away - because they wont hesitate to tell you that you are damaged goods and many women/girls will believe it under the right conditions. You hear about the millions of Ukrainians that evacuated the country at the start of the war in February onwards - almost exclusively women and children, and you have to know that so many of them are critically at risk from unscrupulous people taking advantage of the chaos for profit.

Liam Neeson did this movie because it was being shot overseas and even though he’s originally from Ireland, he spent most of his adult life in the United States as a working actor and he wanted some time off to go back to Europe. This was supposed to be a direct video type of movie but it became such a hit that spawned two sequels and introduced Liam Neeson into entire new genre films as the older action star where he’s made more money now than he ever had as an actor before this

The thing I enjoy most about Taken is the lack of hesitation during action scenes. There's no forcing in monologues that other action movies are known to do. Black Adam gave a couple references to this by trying to get Teth Adam to say a catchphrase before taking down the bad guys but when he remembered to do that and tried, he was still too late because he wasn't gonna waste his time talking.

For Liam Neeson, it was a risky role (fortunately, the film broke the box office and paid off the budget) but at the same time, he had decent baggage behind his back - he worked as a teacher, was engaged in boxing (because of this, by the way, he has such a nose) and fortune smiled on him. At that time, I didn't know anything about movies because I didn't listen to other people's opinions and reviews + I didn't have a home Internet with the exception of Opera 6 on Sony Erickson, and this film didn't let me down and became a favorite action movie for all time on a par with Skyfall and Jack Reacher, and occasionally I review it.

I like the editing on this. The style appeals to me, and feels a little frenetic or ad hoc, which is basically where the character is, everything about tracking down his daughter is ad hoc. We hear a reference, see a blurry crooked shot, that suddenly comes into clear focus, as in the red door. It mirrors exactly how the character is following the trail.

The great thing about this movie is that even though it's mainly action there was a thriller vibe and tension throughout that made you feel the stakes, and it was done very well. This is one of my dad's top favorites. As someone who is just as "old school" at the age of 23, you are definitely not an old man for agreeing with the pops. As a young girl growing up who's father was just as protective I can tell you I would have done the things you mentioned during "Peter's" introduction just to be cautious, especially overseas. Maybe that's just a result of watching way too many crime shows combined with having veterans/law enforcement for parents but one can never be to careful. Now that I'm older, I kinda laugh at the fact that the daughter got so excited over going to Paris. I even heard of French people living outside of Paris putting down the idea of visiting the city due to how bad the violence and crime is.

An action movie way before Taken where the hero also goes all out to protect his family is Face/Off(1997) starring Nic Cage and John Travolta and directed by John Woo. John Woo's style is famous for gun-fu action scenes with a lot of shots with doves, slow mos and somersaults. I feel like you guys would very much enjoy the character interactions there. It's also one of the best action films leading up to the year 2000. There's a lot of campiness with the acting that not many movies get away with but it gets a pass here, actually it's very necessary because of the theme, and the two leads absolutely deliver on their roles.

Great movie. Other great movies like that are Equalizer with Denzel Washington and the first Bourne Identity movie. Other great Liam Nisson movies are Rob Roy 1995 and Darkman 1990 which is an original superhero movie Sam Ramie made before he got the rights to do the Spiderman movies. Another great movie like this is the first Jack Reacher (Which has a great Amazon series named Reacher)

Dude, don't send them to Rob Roy. That's just painful. Like, beginning to end. Every time I watched it...just yesus, what more...oh, why they bad guys are going to torture, assault the family, etc. And it's 3 hours of the horrors that happened to him. I mean, the story is important. But ffs, its just hurt, hurt, hurt some more, and when that family is as broken as possible, why, more assault. And then, finally, back together...but they are never going to deal with their traumas. Nope. I have watched it 3 times and each time, where is the heroic resolution? It's a true story and that carries its own weight but I'm serious. For all the good in a movie that is telling about this man who keeps overcoming all the weight of his world, there's only more planets added to his shoulders, never a real time when he had it lightened. Don't do that to them, don't do that to anyone. It's not a bad movie. It's great in its own way but it hurts your heart, your mind, your soul, and never gives you a balm or bandaid except for like 10 minutes at the end. That is mean, man. But everything else Neeson, I get behind. I tell everyone to watch "Nell" because I think it's sad and beautiful at the same time. Now more sad because it's the movie where he fell in love with his wife, who died. I find it an interesting study of hermits. Extremely sad, but extremely uplifting in the end.

Amanda was the Step-fathers Daughter!? So she was Kims stepsister? I must have missed that part of the story when I watched the Whole movie years ago. And I agree that his Ex-wife was rather rude to him and not concerned about her 17 year old Daughter traveling around Europe, just her and Amanda! Seriously!? What a horrible lesson for her and a Terrible lesson for Kim. Dad got the respect in the end though.

LOVED THE EMOTION WHERE WE GET TO SEE BRYANS RELATION/CONNECTION WITH HIS FAMILY, ESPECIALLY HIS DAUGHTER🥲. THE ACTION SEQUENCES WERE NOT UP TO THE MARK IF YOU WATCH IT NOW BUT FOR THAT TIME IT WAS ACCEPTABLE IN A WAY👍. BUT ITS A FUN AND ENTERTAINING MOVIE🔥

Liam Neeson was an Irishman who was an ex-boxer. Went on to become helluva actor and also an Oscar nominee (Best Actor in Schindler's List, 1993). 20 years plus into his career, this franchise made him the new thinking man's action hero. The phone call scene is unforgettable and major selling point of the movie in it's first trailer. Part 2 is great. Part 3 is decisive for not being a good finale. A prequel tv series to the first film ran for 2 seasons. The creators of TAKEN are Luc Besson (La Femme Nikita, Leon The Professional) & Robert Mark Kamen (The original Karate Kid films, 1984-94). They wrote many other incredible, gems together: Kiss of The Dragon (2001), The Transporter films with Jason Statham (2002-2008), Unleashed (2005) and Columbiana (2011). So you got to watch all of these if you can.

Over here, human trafficking and drugs is a big problem. There's been girls walking home from school who have been shoved into cars, in broad daylight. One of them managed to jump out of the moving car, thank heavens. The people behind it all also do "spotting" at shopping centres. They follow you EVERYWHERE. I've been followed and luckily some kind guys in a computer shop helped me to sit in their office at the back of the store. They watched and made sure the guy was gone. Also walked with me back to my car. It's a very scary feeling being followed like that!! While sitting in that office, I just prayed. 🙏🏻 Living here is a skill! 😂

Love Matt Damon love the soundtrack! * love Kate Beckinsale in some of the Underworld series, lots of great fight scenes * V for Vendetta is an underrated piece of art in my opinion. Nice action scenes. * Elektra, Jennifer Garner. Brilliant fight scenes.
