The second bride almost seems proud to be marrying so young while the first bride just happens to be young but was marrying someone she knows and loves.

There is a huge contrast between those two brides and it shows. Bride 1 found her fiancé and chose to marry him. Her entourage did have their critiques, but if you have watched this show for years like I have, they were standard issue concerns. "We want you to look like a bride, and we want you to look timeless" are very valid concerns that any mother or grandmother would have. At the end of the appointment, the bride chose a lovely lace dress that was fun, flirty, and fit for the wedding of her dreams. The other bride was raised in an ultra conservative, Duggar like setting where she has been encouraged to court a man her father approves and she has to dress modestly on her big day. Any single one of the dresses they pulled would have been perfectly fine wedding gowns for most churches -- the father (who gives me the ick) could not handle the fact that his little baby girl is about to become a bride. Rather ironic that the culture you promote says 18 years old is a fine agr to get married, only for you to actively detest that, but I digress. I just feel awful for that bride because this should be a magical day for her, and all she could think about is, "What will daddy think?" It was so awkward and honestly heartbreaking to watch because all she has known is that her father is the only one that can make important choices for her, and her opinion does not matter when it absolutely should. I wish them both the best of happiness, but I hope that 2nd bride, and anyone else in her situation, is able to make their own decisions and choose what THEY want to wear on THEIR wedding day.

I was engaged at 17 (not hugely uncommon in the faith in which I grew up- also the Southern US, also with the courtship mentality) and thankfully we did not go through with it! There was no messy breakup- we just didn’t feel right about it at the time. We’ve remained best friends ever since, and a few years back I helped him write his wedding vows when he married his incredible husband! We were both fortunate that things played out the way they did.

The second bride's dress is very much in the style of a confirmation dress... Which you would put on a twelve-year-old. The only difference between that dress and a standard confirmation dress is that if it were a confirmation dress, it would have straps. I think the father is far from ready to view his daughter as an adult woman. 😅

While I love the dress the first bride picked I wished the family, or families in general, could acknowledge that while they may not like the dress, the dress should be one that the bride loves, regardless of anyone else’s opinion. I may think a dress is hideous but if my friend felt beautiful in it and thought it was “the dress” than who am I to say anything about HER dress.

The dad basically chose a prom dress and was excited to see her looking like a prom queen. Because that's the age she was. Like no shit.

What's wild to me about the second bride and her father picking that 3rd dress is I think it's the lowest cut with how they put it on her (cause they hiked that first dress up), and as you mentioned, still fitted around the top. I don't think they actually got the more conservative dress. They just got the dress that distracted them the most with sparkly things so they didn't focus on the rest of it.

See as a Christian......I never liked courting. I grew up around it and didn't like the idea of pretty much "just get married" I saw so many divorces....sooo yeah no thanks, let's give the kids time to learn themselves and try things out and not pressure them to marry. I got married at 31 and never got my dad involved in it. He is and has been my harshest critic everrr. All he had to do is to show up at the weddig and lead me down the isle and have fun after the wedding ceremony, and that is exactly what he did, thank God. Hats off to all women who invite several people to their dress shopping appointments, I simply did not have the patience to deal with anyone other than my sister and my mum 😅

Honestly, if you have to get married at 18, doing it like the first girl seems more logical. The amount of change you go through from 12 to 18 is insane. Obviously they'll keep growing and changing but if they'd managed to stick together and compromise and grow alongside each other through their crazy puberty years, they might actually be okay. I mean, it works out for "just friends" like that; people who are still besties with their childhood best friends usually have them for life. I mean this really showed the variety of teen weddings, for the first girl it seemed like a genuine decision her and her boyfriend (who seemed to be the same age as her) made for themselves, the second one seemed like a decision made by the father in order to continue with "traditional" values which definitely raises a few red flags for me.

I honestly thought she was 14 maybe 15. Luckily she didn't end up getting married, and married someone else later down the line. What I've told my daughter is get an education, get a career, travel the world and find out who YOU are before attaching someone else's life to you.

We don't get married young lol. UK couples actually get married older on average than US couples, according to Statista! It's definitely getting older and older for both countries and the average in 2020/21 was over 30. Teen marriages are definitely outliers in both places, but I would have thought that there are younger Americans bringing the average down due to conservative Christianity in the US and how couples get married super young because they can't sleep together otherwise.

I got married at 19 - eloped. I can't imagine doing all of the wedding extremes at that age. Marriage was totally different for us I guess but all the family input would've made me... Unhinged.

I dress pretty modestly myself, but I would never ever impose that on someone else! There's such a thing as bodily autonomy. Plus, I'd be a huge hypocrite because I showed a lot of skin in high school and early college. All that matters is what makes that person feel good (of course there are some dress etiquette rules that are important like job interviews, someone else's wedding, funerals)

My neighbour is 23, got engaged at 17, and became a mom 22, (shes around my age) and i cringe everytime she says "come to mommy!". Don't get me wrong, nothing wrong with a cute mother-daughter moment, but for me, it feels strange. We grew up playing together with all the other kids. I am now in college, in a new city, all alone, worrying to pay my rent and learn a 100 pages per subject every week, I cannot fanthom to be a mom at this age. Later for sure, if i choose to have kids. I understand that she is not in the same circumstances as me but you do you i guess lol. I hope she is happy tho.

I hate that last dress. The neckline is awkward as hell. I can't believe the shop didn't have a simple 50's style A-line with square neckline. I feel sure that's what the father was expecting. As so often happens when making too many compromises, the dress ends up looking dorky and she will hate looking back on it because it will remind her of what a bully her father was about it.

I was a teen bride. We only knew each other for about 3 months before we got engaged. He seemed responsible and kind, so we got hitched 3 months after that. It felt like plenty of time despite our parents freaking out. They begged us to wait; my mom even cancelled my wedding dress 2 weeks before the wedding date! We've been married for over 30 years, and we're still in love. I don't recommend this plan for anyone else; coulda been a disaster, but I have no regrets.

I just don't understand how an 18 year old has the money to get married in Italy (while not living there) and spend 3000 pounds on a wedding dress. I'm 25 and me and my boyfriend have no idea how we are going to afford buying a house and getting married.

I personally think it's very nice idea to have a functional wedding, at the courthouse or whatever, more casual and with only the people that need to be there,, and then have a celebration where you can go all out, maybe have a second/mock ceremony. Have a functional wedding and then have a reason to dress up,, everyone happy
