Based on our current anime industry, I sadly have to agree. As Joey once said in another video: "Can't we just take it back to the early 2000s, where we had like 10 shows a season that were all descent(or at least good?)"
@RKNancy

I started watching anime in the mid 2010s and even I think the mid to late 2000s was the golden age of anime. Sh!t was great back then. Not every anime was a rip-off power fantasy of this one popular anime.

@@RKNancy I'm so glad you agree! I've been getting a lot of flack for not liking new anime, but the fact is, most of them are just carbon copies of better shows! Granted not all new anime are bad, but my point stands!

@@nine_tails137 That's just cap. There weren't 10 decent shows per season in the 2000s. If we are talking generally then yes, today it's a mix bag of amazing shows, a lot of decent shows and a lot of garbage. But in absolutes we get more decent shows today than in the mid 2000s.

I'd say most of the theme songs are still made specifically for the shows, even if the artists are generally not associated with anison. Anisong labels also exist now unlike before. I think 水の星 へ 愛をこめて was licensed - It's originally a song written by an American songwriter Neil Sedaka but the original song was never actually released, the version sung by Moriguchi-san is actually a cover. Bandai don't own the rights to it and it meant after a certain period the song stopped being used in anything Zeta related anymore due to licensing. If I remember correctly I read the guy got annoyed with them asking for permission to use it and told them to stop asking him. It's annoying because it's an absolutely amazing song as well and both the openings and the ending song (all covers of his songs) are some of the best songs in Gundam.

12:00 - I will never forget how I first started reading OP and how I first heard this song. I started reading one piece to replace the emepty feeling I had after finishing Naruto manga. Since I wasn't involved in the anime community, I genuinely hadn't heard about it, and I literally just picked it up cause the vibe that the cover was giving off was perfect (idk if it was the cover for the first volume or a different one - but the first volume cover and it's remake after the time skip are still my faves). I still remember being completely and utterly enchanted by the first page of chapter 1, Gold Roger's execution. And falling heads over heels for the manga after finishing chapter 1. It just spoke to me, heart to heart. Naturally, as every arc topped the previous one for literally 800 something chapters, I was thinking all the while, "man I think I found an underground gem, this is definitely my personal favorite unpopular show". Lol. One day, as I was cleaning my house while listening to music, youtube randomly started playing We Are! - and you guys gotta remember that in the full version of the song, there's no "wealth fame power" speech - it's just music for like 30 something seconds for the start. And in those 30 second, having never ever seen the anime, and before getting to the part where they say the title in the lyrics, I just FELT it. I just KNEW this was the One Piece opening. The vibe was so strong that despite the incredible variety of possible songs that can exist - I was just thinking "isn't this One Piece? It has to be right?" Both the Japanese and English (not the rap - altho that's got its own charm) versions of this song are incredible, the vibe, the lyrics, what's going on on the screen - everything gave off the PERFECT one piece vibe that I got from reading. The English one is incredible btw if any of y'all haven't heard it! To this day, I think this opening is the most fitting opening to a show I've ever seen, really encapsulating the energy and vibe. Not to mention it's a fuking banger. Man I love One Piece.

There’s so many I’m shocked didn’t make it in there, like ANY Initial D opening, particularly Blazin’ Beat(personal bias), or YuGiOh!. Also super surprised to not see either of the Death Note openings, or the original FMA ops cause those were extremely popular when it was originally airing. Like Joey, I really wonder about the metric that was being used to measure. If it was by popularity or views, or even cultural impact, you’d expect to see History Maker from Yuri! ON ICE for 2016(not saying it would be right, or even my opinion, just it’s what I’d expect and not be surprised by), for example. I’m really surprised I didn’t see more sports anime openings, because whether you love or hate them, the songs and bands/musicians are usually awesome, and the visuals are also usually really well done with the music. I enjoy a lot of sports based anime, from Prince of Tennis and Slam Dunk, to Free!, Haikyu, and Kuroko no Basket. What is even more, jarring, is the lack of musical anime inclusion. When it comes down to it, whatever the “best anime openings” are on any scale is always an opinion. But this list really did seem kind of all over the place, as far as what metric it was trying to use. I’d be interested to know what this same list would look like if Joey curated it, himself.

Hi person in charge of editing, can you make videos like this WITH the music? If some of the music doesn't pass through, there is a great solution also, I'd rather call it a compromise, you can insert copyright-free 8-bit version over the original. Half of the joy watching these kinds of videos is to listen to the music with the person reviewing it. I hope you will read my suggestion. It was done before by smaller KZfaqrs than Joey, so I guess you guys can do it too.

Hey, I was surprised about your takes on Hellsing old series opening (it was huge and everyone loves it and it's so cool too) and Aimer's Zankyou Sanka. I've found the Aimer's song and her MV first and instantly fell in love with the song and PV and even used it for my own game video, so touching and cool it was. And after found out that it's an opening for the KnY and enjoyed it there too. Great song. Also Chainsaw man opening is a really cool one too and it perfectly matches the anime's tone and director's work and sense of humour there. It's kinda interesting how I agree with you on almost all other takes but then these three really shocked me xD Yoasobi's song on the other hand is definitely not everyone's cup of tea so it's not a hot take, wasn't surprised, I kinda like it though.

One of the negative points of living in Germany is that before streaming services it took quite a while before an anime made it to us. But at the same time that had the positive effect that I got to see 80s anime like Lupin and Cat's eye (which I really loved) on TV, otherwise I might have never seen them^^ And wtf? DBZ came out in 89?! we didn't get it until 2001! Sailor Moon only took 3 years to arrive here xD As for openings in general, Germany was always great, because we ignored the often stupid english openings and just used the japanese with tailored German lyrics
