The fact that they don't look 21/23 doesn't bother me at all. Honestly, the question "Do you feel forever about him" is a crazy question to put to a 23 yo so from the whole "epic love story" POV I think it works better that they look a bit more mature. I think they're perfect in terms of the personalities of the 2 characters (I've read the book a couple of times) and overall the trailer makes me feel that this is going to be really fun as well as romantic - top tier rom-com in other words.

@@JackieRossLavender I just reread the book and I feel like the forever thing was obvs directed about their relationship but I think it was a little more broad in the sense that people are going to associate the two of them together forever once this becomes public and is he okay with always having that be common knowledge no matter what happens between them in the future. It kind of reminds me of what the queen told wilhelm when he asked why he and Simon couldn’t just be together. She said that he would be scrutinized for the rest of his life

@pollyfossil8466 I totally agree that I'm glad they are a bit aged up! The outing is going to be so difficult to watch and traumatic at any age. But I want to see adults making these decisions and not young adults. It's not a drastic difference but a choice that makes it easier as a viewer to believe in how solidly they love each other.

I don't mind them aging the characters up a little. I feel like coming of age stories are pretty common so I don't feel like I'm missing that. And if the mom is asking about "forever love" I'd rather them be older. But it does look like a fun film that captures the spirit of the book. When it comes to adaptations that's what I really look for.

For some reason the book, and especially Alex' POV didn't strike me as a coming of age story when I read it. I know he was in College and just 21, but he did read like a young adult more than a teenager, and I related his story much more to my own experiences of exploring my sexuality post 20years old. It's still a sort of growing (up) story, as people constantly discover new ideas about themselves in their 20s, and grow as people. I am just hoping, but I believe this could be done well, even with actors that don't look on the younger side

@@miridroge6043 I didn't interpret it as coming of age either. I just meant compared to other stories. Which is why I don't mind them being a little older. There was nothing in the story that struck me that they had to be that young for a reason. I like reading the 20-30 age range too.

I feel like the trailer did allude to a lot of book scenes! There's the cake scene, the New Year's party/under the tree scene, the Beekman hotel, the kid's hospital, the polo match, and the Texas weekend. It looks like they might have moved the karaoke scene to fit in with the Texas weekend, which I'm honestly okay with especially since they combined Nora and June into one character. I just re-read the book and I'm honestly so excited to see the movie, I'm really hoping it's a good adaptation, and gives us the romance that we all want to see between Henry and Alex!!

When the casting for Henry and Alex was first announced I was a little scared for this movie because I knew how old Nicholas and Taylor were and the fact they look their ages. Now, I am wondering if they aged up the characters in the first place to get rid of the whole Alex being in school storyline, like before casting started. It helps flesh out the character in the book and adds to the chaos, but it probably would not be helpful or executed well in the movie. He also graduates in the first half of the book. Also, Taylor probably cannot pass for a teenager or young adult anymore. He probably could have back in 2015 when he was on an episode of Young and Hungry, but not now. Nicholas does look his age in this movie, but I was surprised by how well he was aged down for his role in the new Bottoms movie. From the snippets of the trailer he is in, he decently passes for 18. Also, every time I rewatch the trailer I am reminded that I need to rewatch Handsome Devil! Loved your reaction and thoughts!

I am so excited for this movie. Especially for Nicholas Galitzine, as Henry. Yes, he's British. He's really good at accents. So good at Playing vulnerable. He can sing & play musical instruments too. I highly recommend all his films. I was first introduced to him in Amazon Prime Original's Cinderella as the Prince (of course). Then Handsome Devil with an Irish accent. It's on Prime at the moment. Teen comedy, sweet, gay ,Coming of age. Netflix's Purple Hearts , American accent. Now this is amazing. The songs are amazing. Funny enough the plot is a little similar to RWRB. Luke & Cassie start off as enemies , pretend to like each other for the world to see, and of course fall in love for real, along with angst. Nick & Sofia's chemistry was 🔥❤‍🔥Also based on a book. I'm looking forward to "The Idea of you", (also Prime) with him & Anne Hathaway. I'm in the middle of reading the book. If it's just like the book then there's gonna be steamy scenes between Nick & Anne. He plays a member of a British boyband who falls in love & have a secret affair with Anne's character

I got this book last Christmas and absolutely devoured it, I loved it so much. It seems like they’ve kept a lot of the wit/humour but I want to see if the more intimate moments hold up. I personally don’t have too much of an issue with the age of the actors as I think it will come down to how well they embody their respective characters. Helloo! I`ve read de book, I'm actually rereading to have it fresh for de movie and the trailer does show a lot of the important scenes of the book. Maybe the dialogue is not going to be exactly the same but probably most of the most iconic bits will (same happened in Heartstopper). And for the part were they may be to old, in my opinion Henry looks spot on (I also do love the actor, he is amazing) and for Alex, yes, he may look older but I think that the acting is what is going to show the younger part, but I do think that in terms of casting he does look a lot like what is describe on the books. And for hight difference I actually think that they were aware of the impact it was going to have because is something that is mentioned A LOT in the books and they actually started doing a lot of promo were Henry and Alex were like seeing who was taller just to, I think, let us now that the thing in the movie is going to be that they are going to be arguing about that, like in the books. But I'm sure that if they let go of the little things that make them different from the book is because their chemistry is going to be awesome. Sorry if there is something weird written I`m from Spain☺, love your videos by the way.

I think they looked age appropriate. They're supposed to be college students. They didn't give exact ages but they said that Alex was in college close to graduation, not high school. I did look up the actors actual age and they were 31 and 28 respectively, so you are correct that they're too old to actually be Senior college students, but not FAR too old. I'm quite a bit older than you are though, so maybe it's just cause you all look like babies to me.

I may be in the minority here but prefer the fact they were post university age in the film. It made the entire situation more believable to me. Alex’s confident independence, and role in the campaign, was more believable which allowed for a more mature handling than what a traditional college aged love story would be. The process of their relationships development was more believable and appropriate to a real life level of commitment at this stage in ones life.

@@khalivhkrtn1345 - ok, but for me the fact that the actors are nearly 8 years older than the characters that they are portraying would alone put me off from watching the series. I think that we may have been spoilt with the likes of ‘Heartstopper’, ‘Young Royals’ and ‘SKAM’ (where they chose actors close to the age of the characters that they were portraying) to the extent that maybe audiences expect that situation in future similar productions (gay or straight relationships). We now know that productions using actors of similar ages to their characters are possible and are successful, so why go back to the old ways of choosing over age actors in future productions?

The book has this feeling of epic whirlwind love story that will go down in history and FOREVER thing going on between this two. It’s a little weird for me to read/see a mother asking her 20-23 y/o son “Do you feel forever with him?” or, a dad talking to his son like he sees that this is your match. I decided to read the book b/c as you mentioned, it kept popping up in my TL due to my obsession w/Young Royals so I gave it a chance. I found the book okay. I think my biggest disapointment comes from not connecting as much to Henry and Alex's relationship as much as I would've wanted and I feel like that's mainly due to it being told from Alex's pov. I read a lot of romance and I'm used to reading perspectives from both characters in the relationship most of the time (not all the time). I also feel like with them literally being an ocean a part hurt their ship. I didn't really buy into Alex's from afar obsession w/Henry ever since their first meeting. I really wanted more from Henry's pov and his world b/c I felt it would've balanced out Alex's perspective, considering Henry is more reserved and conservative (which is expected). Plus, this was my first time reading Casey's work so, I don't know if it's due to her fast paced writing style or Alex's character that I needed things to slow down a bit as the story jumped from one thing to another. The most insight w/Henry re: his feelings and thoughts came through the emails. Instead of being told a lot about what Henry's dealing with, I would've liked to have seen more of it. Overall, I just expected more with this story considering the way people hyped up this book for so long. I'd been seeing it in my TL for months and constantly compared to YR. TBH, there's actually few comparisons between them. I will check out the film adaptation to see if it changes my current view on this story.

I love YR but it’s a very serious show. There isn’t many light hearted moments. RWRB is a rom-com & quite funny. There is angst obviously but there is also a lot of light hearted, cheerful stuff too! I’m hoping S3 of YR is a bit more cheerful for the characters sakes 😂

I agree that the actors might be a bit old to be playing the roles. In the novel, Alex is 21 and I believe that Henry is 23. My other main concern is how much of the source material will get left out. The movie is only 90 minutes long. There are already rumors that some key characters are not in the movie, namely Alex's sister June, his mentor Rafael Luna, and his grandmother Queen Mary.
@productjoe4069

Ok, that intrigues me. What’s creating the narrative without either Luna or Queen Mary? Yeah, they aren’t essential to the *plot*, but they feel essential to the catharsis to me (even if one of them is only in one scene in person). Are they banking on beating Richards being enough? Because how do they motivate Alex’s journey from ‘congressman by 30’ to considering what he actually wants to accomplish in life without Luna’s actions (and without a ‘love conquers all’ narrative). Not saying it isn’t possible to do this though. I’m just interested in how they go about it. Actually, how do they motivate the hotel scene in the trailer without Luna?

They’ve replaced Queen Mary with a King instead, played by Stephen Fry! You can see him in this trailer! Genius to cast a gay man as a homophobic king I think 🙌🏼😂 They’ve rolled Luna & Liams characters into one - and made that character a journalist friend of Alex’s from his childhood. I think a lot of the politics will be cut as it’s just too complicated for a movie & vital to their love story. It was the bit that interested me the least in the book.

@@hollya8049 I don't mind them making changes if they add something of value to the story. I'm curious why they decided to make Henry's grandfather the King rather than keeping Queen Mary. Also, it seems as if the character of Henry's mother Princess Catherine has been omitted from the film. I guess my biggest disappointment is leaving Alex's sister June out, considering how important she is to him in the novel. At least they kept Princess Beatrice.

Either they went all in on the sex scenes, or it's a PG-13 movie that got rated higher because it's gay. My bet is on the latter, but I'd be happy to be proven wrong.

And I'd would have guessed you were in your late 20s early 30s merely by your emotional expression and maturity during your postings. But just to look at you, I would have said you were 23-24. I used to live near a high end boys school (princes, sons's of senators etc) whose students looked and carried themselves to look much older than high school age. I read the book a while ago and don't remember too many details other than really enjoying it. I will treat the movie as a hopefully fun lgbt movie and try to dissociate it from the book. Apart from Peter Jackson's LOTR universe and the 1995 version of pride &prejudice, I have disliked all movie versions of books I loved, so just ignoring the thought of the book seems the best approach for me 😂

Maybe if I didn’t love the book so much and I hadn’t read it so many times I would be more onboard with this one but every time I watch the trailer I end up screaming at my computer screen. Where’s June? Why is Henry shorter than Alex? Why is Alex so old? And why couldn’t they find some queer actors to play queer characters? But of course I will still be watching the movie on the first day.

I think the movie looks amazing. I'm really looking forward to watching it. Why do the actors have to be queer to play a queer role? Isn't that the point of acting? To play a character or a role that isn't what represents you in real life? As a gay man myself, I've always thought that was silly. If they do a good job then no complaints here :) Can't wait for this.

Apparently, I'm the only one who watched the trailer and thought, "This is going to be a trainwreck." Where do I start? The actors are too old. Uma Thurman's Texas drawl is laughable. Literally, one line of dialogue in that trailer is from the book. But the most egregious is that it looks like they cut June out of the movie. How could they cut June? She is integral to the story. I'm pretty sure other than the title and the base premise of the book, this movie is barely going to resemble the book.
