The rubbing thing is basic chemistry, when you rub your wrists, you create heat from the friction, the heat will bring energy to molecules and may be able to break bonds and thus slightly changing either the composition of the perfume or making it dissipate faster. You need a lot of rubbing for that tho so dont worry, just dab and you're fine

1000% agree i have seen this in our chem. lab so many times with some crazy fragile peptidic substances, 30 seconds of shaking and 40$ of 10mg has value of 0%, because 95% is already destroyed. when im thinking about it, i think most exclusive frags will suffer most from bad applying, some cheap ones won't be affected at all.
@rschweri578
@rschweri578 6 ай бұрын
@@lukajdala Yes, also the alcohol and moisturizer thing is a tricky one, while he is technically write that alcohol will dry down and desinfect skin (this is why its used as aftershave) a lotion is kind of the contrary, it will moisturize the skin by supplying it with H2O and other molecules that are good like some weird milky acid etc. In the end, it doesnt matter what you put first as one kind of eliminates the other or nullifies the other. Unscented lotion may not take away the smell of a fragrance but the dehydrating effect is gone. It doesnt matter if its done before or after. The reason why people always say to hydrate before is because its preventive. Once ur skin is wringly and permanently dehydrated you cannot restore it with lotion. In the end that advice doesnt matter as long as you use a moisturizer Ps: I say this as a biologist who loves chemistry and has experience in labs tho I'm not an expert, any chemist feel free to correct me

doesn't make sense though still. He is also suggesting to put it on the wrist veins as it is warmer there allowing it to spread more. By your suggestion it shouldn't be somewhere with heat.
@rschweri578
@rschweri578 6 ай бұрын
@@imSupahman No, the heat generated by the friction is way larger on that specific spot which causes it to dissipate faster, my theory still holds true, as you know when we sweat or generally when we're hotter our fragrance will project more and last less, that's because of the heat.
@bozoc2572

@@rschweri578How much friction and heat is there actually, and how does it affect perfumes? My point is, theory is useless and won't get you far, even sesmingly simple things are hard to sketch model. We really need a properly conducted experiment with the control group.

Idk bc the whole point of moisturizing after you bathe is to lock in moisture into your skin so you don’t end up with dry skin an hour later. Applying fragrance before a lotion or cream does the complete opposite of what a moisturizer or cream is supposed to do. Just think about it this way. Spraying fragrance under makeup makes no sense. So why do it with a moisturizer or cream when the point of it is to protect skin against contaminants?

I learned the hard way that if you’re someone who’s prone to feeling nauseous or headachey from fragrances, don’t apply them on your chest or throat area. You end up breathing in far too much perfume that way. Stick to your arms / wrists / back of neck. Also I think the bruising thing is total bs. These aren’t aged wines. A little bit of rubbing from one arm to the other is fine

I think current/modern interpretation of where to apply scent is all about people needing to noticed more than wearing scent for themselves. Roja Dove’s tips and explanations make a great deal of sense. Oh and rubbing scent after applying absolutely impacts the fragrance by adding heat and friction which dry out that application much sooner than applying and leaving to dry naturally.

Wow!! So fascinating! I feel like I just took a master class in fragrance application!!! Curious tho about the “apply lotion on top of the fragrance” notion. Doesn’t that mean you’d end up rubbing the fragrance? This perplexed me after he mentioned how rubbing “bruises” the essence. I suppose a way around this would be to use an unscented spray moisturizer or perhaps just very lightly rubbing in the lotion? Anybody have any thoughts on this point?? Thanks y’all!! -Dr. M👃

I think he meant the dimple near your neck and collarbone. Not the bone itself. I also think its better cause, when the dimples are hidden under our clothes it kind of stops an overdose of the scent directly coming to our nose. But if someone were to come in for a hug or kiss, they can get the scent in more concentration ( Hug and kiss would be momentary ofc as opposed to me smelling the scent in the same concentrated dose throughout the day). What do you think?

On the arms yes and rubbing is fine. The amount of heat required to break down the molecules in the fragrance is too high for us to be able to do it by rubbing. But if you plan on rubbing then why not just spray the other arm? I dont apply fragance on my front, i dont want fragrance under my nose potentially causing anosmia. On the side of neck slightly towards the rear. Moisturise at night before bed and you don't need to apply moisturiser and fragrance together in the morning.

Here's what I don't get about the last tip. If putting moisturizer first, then spraying the perfume on after "destroys the cream," why wouldn't putting the perfume on first than moisturizer on top destroy it also? They're both coming in contact with each other, why would it matter which is on top? And also, if rubbing a freshly applied fragrance "bruises" it, wouldn't rubbing cream on top of it also affect it?

Even if i let my friends smell that area or in general, they cant smell it either. and im applying six sprays. ( each wrist, behind every ear, 2 around the neck and each clavicle bone but on the t-shirt not the skin) It seems i can only smell real rose ( which im not that much a fan of ) and real oud for a longer period of time. and some really sweet fragrances like angels share linger on for long i tried every "enhancing technique" i have heard of thus spraying 2 on the shirt but it still didn't help much.

Right, plus I always understood that after a warm shower your skin is drier so it’ll try to absorb anything for moisture (why we put lotion after), so wouldn’t the dry skin essentially shorten the fragrance longevity plus dry up the skin more due to the alcohol before the lotion does its thing? Idk I guess it doesn’t hurt to try it.

I don’t understand the whole spraying your collarbone either. I would say stick to how you spray your fragrance and don’t try to do extra.

Am I allowed to say that Roha just show us that he does not know anything about perfumes ?! My God … we are talking about chemicals here … not glass beads that will break when you rub it … unless the human touch now can break the chemicals bonds between atoms … your perfume will not destroy if you rub it … Also applying the perfume to the wrist …. Ok … if you want to smell it for trying it … yes for sure … but for daily use ! 1st of all this can only happen in summer or spring … in winter what about your long sleeves .. what about the time you are going to wear a suit … what about the spot that the fragrance will put on your clothe ? And I don’t know where to start regarding don’t spray perfumes on the triangle as your skin will be hurt … but it’s ok force the fragrance to be trapped for long time on your skin as you applying cream above it ! Lastly … if he is against spraying and want to have the fragrance in a small spot … why do they invest in good atomizer … as a cheap one will do the trick in way better result

All very true. It is not possible to break bonds in organic chemicals by rubbing your skin, just like you cannot damage them in solution through shaking the perfume bottle. These are relatively small, stable and volatile molecules of less than 200-300 Da molecular weight. Destroying them mechanically through rubbing is a myth, just like "resetting" your sense of smell with roasted coffee beans.
