Alright confession I didn't send because it needs context. I painted a Lady Olynder in this cool purple and blue theme. I was really proud of it even made a video for my store's KZfaq channel (I own a hobby shop) and proudly displayed it with a QR code to the video. I again can't stress how proud I was with her paint job. In rolls a neck beard, he spends some time looking at the display case then walks up to me "are you Luna? The one that painted the Lady Olynder?" I am beaming and say yes, I'm excited thinking that this guy must of liked it! "You know you ruined it right?" My heart dropped I could barely stutter out a "what?" As I was trying to not have a full blown anxiety attack. "You ruined it, it's not a lore accurate paint job." He didn't explain further and just left. I was in such a shock and my employee couldn't believe that happened and told me to go get some ice cream. Anyways I now have a piece of paper taped to my wall in my studio that says "Paint your minis in a way that will piss off a Neck beard" I go out of my way to make wild and crazy paint schemes. When you started presenting for GW I was so happy because I finally had someone who also did unique paint jobs being shown off by GW.

When i was 12 i argued with a GW employee that plasma was the stuff in blood and plasma in weapons was made up. He explained that plasma was actually the 4th state of matter etc, i ignored him. 8 years later i met him as part of a viking reenactment group. I remembered him and he didn't remember me. I went on to study chemistry and learn about plasma, he was a med student We became good friends and he was eventually a groomsman at my wedding 12 years after arguing with me in that GW store. We still take the mick and I call him "the sort of person to argue with a 12 year old" and he reminds me about Plasma. God bless that man.

My partner once told her mom that I played Warhammer, describing it as "he paints little guys and makes them fight." My mother-in-law replied, "Well, do they mind?" My partner then had to explain that she was referring to plastic miniatures and dice. She had genuinely thought I painted some "little guys" and had them fight each other.

When my kids started to take an interest in my miniatures I used to make up daft names and silly voices for certain miniatures as many parents do with kids soft toys. I had an obnoxious French Ork chef, a useless Black Templar who just wanted to be with his secret Eldar girlfriend and an utterly inept tech priest who's augmentation kept falling off. My kids are a little older now but I still find myself doing this for my own benefit when I'm on my own in my hobby room

I'm a 56-year-old woman who absolutely loves wargames and ttrpgs, and I also own a quilting and sewing shop. I don't fit in with most gamers and so I don't get many opportunities to play. I've tried going to D&D night at my FLGS and I have to say that they didn't live up to the F in that acronym. I really was not welcome at all. They seemed almost confused as to why I would want to play. I won't even consider going to the Warhammer shop to play. I'm thinking about starting a gaming group that will meet at my shop (I have a classroom that would be great for gaming), and I want to reach out to other people like me who don't fit in with the regular gaming community. It's strange being an outcast from a community that is considered fringe. PS: I also have dyscalculia and find Warhammer extremely difficult, so I much prefer OPR.

I am unashamedly crispy cream dude - it was indeed raw pasta shells filled with whipped cream. Just as weird as you think it is...man we were so hyped up on sugary drinks. The store manager once made us sit outside until we'd stopped giggling. BUT he tested this by coming out and shouting "jam sandwiches" at us to see if we'd laugh. My confession I, as a brush licker, have totally made paint range decisions based on which paint tastes the best.

My confession: I haven’t won a single game of 40K since 2004. I play with my group, the best I’ve ever done was a draw a single time. I lose the rest. I go into a store to play, I lose. I tried to teach my girlfriend (now fiancé), and wasn’t going easy on her. I still lost. I lose every 40K game I play. I play several different armies and the result is always the same. A resounding loss for me

Confession: in the early 90’s my roommate/long time friend showed me WHITE DWARF and explained 40 k to me. I laughed and called him loser and nerd for a couple years. Then I got a rare disease and was hospitalized for close to a year. He brought me the Grey Knights Omnibus when he came to visit. I just laughed at him. But he got real with me and said “if this is something that brings me joy, and you’re my friend, why hate on what I love?” This made sense and I apologized. I read the book and was blown away. Now I read Black Library books, listen to audiobooks, more then half my KZfaq and Reddit feeds are all 40k, im mostly into lore ( because my illness messes with the muscle control of my hands, so building and painting are really hard for me, although I did manage to cobble together a small space wolf force) now I’m a huge warhammer40k nerd, and even have a custom embroidered ball cap that says “For The Emperor” on it! But I’ve never painted a mini or played a game… I want to, just where I live in Hawaii there are no games or 40k events to attend. Great job on another original idea for a YT vid about 40k. About a year ago while in a creative writing slump (big writer's block), I decided to brute-force my way out of it by writing a Warhammer meets My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic fanfic. It wound up going over 10k words and has Twilight Sparkle and company team up with a bunch of Orks to kill Tyranids. It's the most viewed thing I've ever written despite being the one thing I never tell anyone is mine.

I was playing in a local store and we had a friendly tournament of 40k on the go across the summer. There was one player who was a very blatant cheat and everyone knew it but didn't want to say anything or do anything about it. He would always roll his dice behind terrain, would always pick up the dice if you went to look and would pull off ridiculous rolls because of it (he had made all his reanimation protocol saves the entire tournament) and never missed a ranged attack. So when I came to play against him I had a friend of mine stand next to them and the cheat would ask my friend to go away repeatedly and every time he turned his back I would remove a necron from the board. And my friend would do the same every time he lied about his rolls and go give them to the store manager. I was the only one to win against him in the tournament as roughly 30% of his army 'must not have been put on the table'/went walkies. I called them out after the game and they confessed to his cheating antics and never cheated again. I also came last in the tournament 😂

I took up 40k once more, after giving it up for 20 years or so. As one does. We were a whole crew, small town nerds and weirdos, connected by hobby and our love for loud music. Club shut down, we moved on, all the stuff that life brings. But then, I felt the brush itch. So I rung up my old mate, asked if he still has my space marines. He did. And my mates marines as well. And his chaos. And some 'nids. And a bunch of imperial guard. And a decent chunk of orks. And some fantasy minis too. And two bits boxes, chock full of stuff. And I inherited the lot! And that's only half the story. Turns out, I'm an ork player. I was just too young to realise that back then. And both I and another mate moved from a small town to a bigger one, and we keep in touch. So I took all his marines, and added all of my former ones, and some new primaris guys, all freshly painted as 90s style ultramarines, and presented them to him for his b-day. There were tears. But we have yet to play, as this happened just before 10th came out!

Confession Number 7 is heart breaking. I'm 53. I dabbled in painting minis for things like HeroQuest back in the late 80s and early 90s, took a couple of decades off, and then got back into it early-to-mid-pandemic. My interest was mainly painting as it is a genuinely artistic outlet, but then got into gaming - Horus Heresy mostly, and now Blood Bowl and Conquest. Those two facets of the hobby compliment each other in a very obvious way. While my passion is more display painting, army painting lets you cleanse your palette and get reps in. Then playing with those little toys adds a whole other facet to the satisfaction. The painting and gaming communities have massive overlaps, and are hugely accepting. You want some friends who are accepting of what brings you joy? Dump the friends you have now, go to a FLGS, and play whatever games they're running. You'll have a new set of friends by the end of the weekend and will be much happier for it. Gate keepers suck. You do you. Fly that nerdy flag and own it.

A friend of mine was playing a game of 40k with one of the themed 40k dice sets for their faction. The dice rolled so abysmally poorly that they took a photo right there of the dice and their box and listed them on eBay with the description shaming them for their failure.

I got a free sisters of battle army, a while ago so the old metal ones. Played a game, turn 5 I (playing grey knights) was losing but it carried on. Turn 6 I was still losing but it carried on. Turn 7 I won. He threw his Celestine model across the room, scaring the crap out of someone on another table when it exploded on the wall near his head, and then he started scoping up all his models. I asked why and he said they were going in the trash. I said I'd take them and he just left without saying a word. A few years later I was talking to someone who said their daughter wanted to get into 40K, and wanted to do sisters, but they were too expensive and hard to find. I was happy to pass the army along!

Hmm. I only bought the Kill Team Elucidian Starstriders because I wanted a dog mascot for my Imperial Guard army. His name is Brutus and people ask to pet him. 😁

Here's my confession- my friends mom was really strict when he was still living with her. The first time I stayed over I tried painting with him and when he left the room, I spilled a fresh bottle of Aethermatic Blue all over the couch, a blanket, and the carpet. He came back and we both panicked, I managed to clean all of it except for the blanket which turned out to be a family heirloom. We ended up blaming it on his cat, his mom still doesn't know it was me to this day.

I do the horrible no good very bad evil thing of making silicon molds of my models. I've always considered using chocolate in the molds since you can get it in various colors from the hobby stores. It would be really funny to just eat one of my 'models' in front of someone.

Incredibly dorky confession, but I write short stories about my Ork warband, Da Tuffboyz. Every character model has their own name and personality and they're all friends and krump together. It started with a written retelling of my first game with the Combat Patrol and snowballed from there.

Confirmed, Space Wolves are the Paw Patrol now.

My buddy and I were in a small, casual local tournament, and he was just not having a great day. He had just started a depressive phase, had a fight with another friend the night previous, and pulled a tryhard in the first round who just absolutely pasted him. We got matched together in round two and he just could not handle my Knights due to not having enough anti-vehicle (he was playing Emperor's Children iirc). So I started cheating on his behalf. By the time I realized how bad a state he was in, I had an insurmountable lead already, so I started rerolling my own sixes, counted additional damage when he attacked by guys, and he got to blow up some big stompy Questoris and feel a little better about his skills.

The biggest rumour in Blood Bowl is Vampires were tested with Amazons and therefore we're expecting Vampires to be released next. Does this mean it was all made up? That wold be the final nail in the coffin, haha!

Paw Patrol is just a nickname for the space wolves! I had a good laugh when you thought that this guy hated a children cartoon because of Warhammer 😂😂

My confession is that my first though after hearing about the person eating the mechanicus model was "thats a difficult poo".

Not a confession as such, but back when I was around fourteen in the 1980s some mates and I persuaded the local youth club to host a 40K day. I personally spent the entire week before making terrain and getting minis painted, including a brand new land raider in a Crimson Fists design that I was so proud of. Cut to midway through the day and during the big battle Bob, the fella that ran the youth club, turns up at the table and begins showing an interest. He was a lovely guy, but he didn't know a thing about table top wargaming, which he proved immediately by taking a gun on the land raider and turning it towards the ork horde against which my Fists were battling. Of course the gun didn't swivel as it was glued in placed. I can still remember the snap and embarrassed silence which followed it. Bob's body has never been found to this day! *joke*

I'm a little over the year into the hobby. But, this hasn't been my first time dabbling in it. I've known about Warhammer since the early 2000s. The mall I would go to with my friends had a Games Workshop inside. We sometimes would go in just to see the cool minis. One day (I was maybe about 13), I got brave enough to buy my own miniatures. So I walk into the shop and pick stuff out. I can't remember the exact box of minis I bought, but there were Space Marines, and I remember black and red being their primary colors. They weren't Blood Angels. I buy paints and some brushes and take my stuff to their little paint area and get started. I hated my paint job. Despite another kid similar in age to me looking over and saying it was pretty good, I was not convinced. I gathered my stuff, walked out the shop, out the mall and threw my stuff in the trash. All in all, I spent a bit over $80 that day. I look back and get a bit frustrated about a few things. The shop people knew I was a newbie. I wasn't told anything about primer (I do remember wondering why the paint wasn't sticking to the miniature). I didn't get a lesson or rundown on paint techniques. I wasn't recommended a starter set. Forward to last year when I again got brave, it was a different thing. The mall Games Workshop moved out of the mall and a few blocks away. I walked in, asked about the Space Marine starter set, the salesperson asked questions, even told me about the paint clinics in the shop that he hosts regularly, adding that he himself feels like he has a way to go with his painting. Totally different experience. And I am really enjoying myself now with this newfound hobby.

My only shameful confession is that I didn't kill Erebus enough in my games of Horus Heresy.

Confession 3: those times you play with the models may be your subconscious attempt to create a story, so after you have "played" you should write it down like a story and you might end up with a whole novel one day!

Not exactly my own confession but I still want to share. When I was 14 years old playing my first ever game at an actual GW store against a 35 year old man. He rolled really poorly with saving throws on his space marine librarian and it died, so he picked up his model and threw it full force at the wall causing it to break. He had spent so much time painting it as well. Even at the time I couldn’t believe his reaction, but as I’ve gotten older it has really seemed like such a random outburst because this wasn’t even a super competitive game, he was just a shop local who volunteered to help teach the game to an eager young child like myself.

Regarding confession 8 and 12, I've actually invited a girl for a first date to show her the army i was painting at the time and to play some mario kart. And after 13 years we're still together! So, yes it WORKS!

Crop Dusting is basically a walk by (or roll-by if you're on skates) farting... Like a plane Crop Dusting fields, but instead you're flying by and leaving a trail of gas. So his friend basically kept walking by the opponent and farting as he did.

After 50 years of not knowing much about Warhammer or Warhammer 40K I saw the Chaos Knights 40K box and decided it would be my midlife crisis. Never having painted a mini or played a wargame before this.

I still feel like I got away with a naughty thing... by being invited to play on the Warhammer TV twitch stream a few years ago, and all of my Stormcast had Malifaux basing elements on their bases. Japanese shrines, lanterns, road markers, etc. I didn't say anything because more than anything, I thought it was amusing that no one noticed or asked.

I once left my almost brand new 40k 3rd edition boxed game under my bed with the lid off. The next morning i was rather upset to discover my cat (barely out of kittendom) had decided to do a massive shit in the middle of the box. The smell was so bad i had to throw the whole thing away and most of the minis were still on the sprues in the box. Damn cat.

Nurses will also talk to patients after the have passed, espcially palliative and hospice care nurses, after spending so much time with them and wanting to treat the people they have spent so much time caring for and developing a relationship with after they are no longer with them. They will continue talking to them after death until they are brought down and picked up by the funeral director or mortician.

I have one of the old citadel inks from the late 90s that I sometimes open up just to smell as it's pure nostalgia

During a Warhammer Fantasy Battles tournament my opponent ask me if I had read Sun Tzu's Art of War because I was such a bad general. He was 100% serious.

10:59 I'm Dyslexic, and really struggle to parse the sheer level of information required to run your average 40k army. (Particularly during 9th ). It has, in the past, generated a fair amount of anxiety for me as I struggle to remember or take a while to process things. What I've taken to doing is, firstly, explain this to my opponent so they know where I'm at. People have generally been very understanding of this. (If they aren't, I instantly feel less guilty for annoying them). Secondly, I have taken to breaking down, by phase, which unit rules, stratagems, attacks, etc. Occur in each phase. I'm also sucker for a table. I've have tables telling me things like how AP will affect a save, how the combat attrition system works, etc. Has improved my gaming experience no end.

I was once brought in to play against a kid in my FLGS who was a mean winner and never lost a game. I used a Grey Knight army specifically statted up to beat his Chaos Spam army. I turned up and "randomly" picked him as an opponent and systematically destroyed him in a game. He got so mad he slammed his fist down on his defiler and the horns impaled onto his hand.

When I had to flee an abusive relationship I had to leave an OG Bloodbowl, Gorka Morka, BFG, and Space Hulk set behind. That was 10 years ago. I've only just gotten back into the hobby and I've finally gotten the new Bloodbowl box and recently eBay'd a Gorka Morka. We're gettin there!

It's surprising that there are a lot of people in this hobby that we can relate to. Great vid Rogue!

A bit of background context for this, I have had (and since had surgery to correct) a brain tumour. When losing a game with a friend and not feeling like carrying on to the finish, I have sat down mid-game and used the classic "ahhh my brain, I'd better pack up" because somehow I felt this was preferable to being seen as a sore loser? They then concernedly said the game would be called a draw and helped me pack up ... On the flip side of using my illness to advantage I've had it before where it's made someone being rude to me feel bad XD As I have also outdone lung cancer before the brain tumour (I have exceptional luck as I'm sure you can tell just waiting on radiation poisoning to get the hat trick in) my friend group is very jokingly derogatory to each other and one of my newer friends whilst we were talking hobby stuff and disagreeing on lore details spoke the phrase "Shut up, I hope you get cancer" again to make sure this was made as a joke and wouldn't have caused a stir at all within us, however as soon as that was said everyone in the conversation began laughing hysterically myself included, my friend couldn't figure out what was so funny until another member of our group got it together and said "Dude you DO know he has had cancer right?" at which point he fell gobsmacked said he felt like 'expletive' and began packing up. I assure him it was fine and I actually like people making fun of it since no-one dares to and I don't get it since I'm still alive, but yeah we still wheel that out as a reminder when we feel like being a bit cruel. So this final one isn't Warhammer related but its a running joke amongst my friend group wherein I was participating in a card game pre-release event, and whilst hand shuffling and sitting opposite a window, inadvertently gave my opponent an epileptic seizure. I'm ashamed to say I was declared the game victor as he could not return to the table within 10 minutes disqualifying him.

As a death guard player….. i am horrified at that last story….. horrified.

Years ago I used to play at a local game store. It was a great community but there was one guy who was "that guy". I was playing against him during the crazy days of 6th and 7th with my Guard against his Space Marines. His army was entirely proxy from a random variety of miniatures none of which actually came from GW as far as I could tell. His units had weapons they couldn't take, that were more powerful than they should have been, and were taken in numbers that made no sense. After my Imperial Knight got taken out by scouts wielding S8 krak grenades I realized the kind of game it was going to be. For the next game night I brought my beautifully painted, WYSIWYG, and completely legal list of Space Marines. The look on his face when he saw my army was hilarious and I just smiled. Funnily enough he stopped showing up shortly after that... There also was the time my Guard army got randomly allied up with Necrons, Tyranids, and Chaos Space Marines against the combined armies of Space Marines and Tau... There were a lot more of us than table space and we had to play giant 3v3 games with 1k points per player. Those were some of the craziest games I've ever seen. Sadly it took me 90 minutes to get there after work and I stopped going after a while.

I had recently recovered from a sinus infection when I went to the Southampton super major. I was packing away my army when my nose decided to discharge a load of pinky coloured fluid all over the battle mat. I was mortified and wanted to run away.

I once beat a guy in Age of Sigmar in my first game back to the hobby and he started punching himself in the head and screaming at me in the middle of the gamestore. To this day I’m apprehensive against playing against strangers. Haha

Didn't think increasingly greasy models could be topped but then, whelp. Yep 😂 My confession/weird story, I used to be more into armour models. An acquaintance asked if i could build one of his imperial guard tanks as a gift. Then maybe a month later he asked if I could paint another tank and some troops. I said no as I was deep into another project and they got enraged, screaming voice mails, all caps FB messages, the whole 9 yards. Came to find out from another person that they'd entered the model I painted for them in a LGS's painting contest, placed, and later sold it. Then took on a commission based on that and spent the advance as they figured they could get me to paint it. I went back, told him I'd do the tank only, without mentioning I knew it was a commission. Then painted it like multicolor, technicolor, wildness - still painted to high standard just with a palette like a unicorn vomited a bag of skittles 😂 The look on their face was priceless, I wished them good luck with the commission and left hah

I’ve got so many, hard to know where to start!! I’m pretty open about my hobbying at work and got into a conversation with someone about it during a works dinner. Ran into him again a year later and he was now listening to loads of Horus heresy books, so I recommended that he listened to things like Eisenhorn & Gaunts Ghost. He now thinks I know everything and keeps coming back for recommendations. All good right? Problem is, that was the limit of my reading, so I need to google additional books before I talk to him to keep up the pretence. I’ve turned down invites to go out for work dinners with excuse that I’ve got work to do, but stay in the hotel and paint some minis whilst watching Leutin instead. When I play vs my kids, I give them unlimited rerolls and they always end up beating me. I fear I’ve set them up for disappointment later in life when they can’t do that. Redacted one story in case the person accidentally reads it. Don’t need the potential confrontation. I turned up to a game at a GW store with a promise of playing against others, but no one else turned up. The manager stepped up to play me, telling me he was undefeated and promptly unpacked the best team in the game to play me. I was absolutely demolishing him, so he started getting a bit salty and began interpreting rules for his benefit. I didn’t mind as knew I would win anyways, but you could sense the tension. When the game was over he didn’t say “good game” or offer to shake my hand, just packed up the team and walked off.

I'm a fantasy nerd, my partner is a sci-fi nerd. I tried for years to get them involved in ttrpg and larp. Now we are both really into 40k, they play necrons, I play orkz!

YOU HAVE DISCALCULA TOO? It's so hard to play Warhammer with it- I try so hard to remember all the numbers and it's just so tricky to get them down. I'm glad to know someone else has the same struggles.

Not sure if this is a confession, but I'll share it. Was considered a decent painter at school. Shared the 2nd editon 40k box with my brother and had the space marines. Painted up my squads as blood angels, showed them to friends and got some much needed praise for them. Soon after I lost one of my Sergeants and was told off by my Mum as she assumed I'd left it out and the dog had eaten it. A few months later was helping my best friend paint his bedroom. While moving some stuff I found my missing Sergeant on his shelf. 99.999% sure it was my work as I was the only one nutty and steady-handed enough to paint pupils on my marines! Felt awful confronting him, so tried asking where he got it and if he painted it. He immidately became defensive and asked if I was accusing him of stealing it, which just seemed even more sus. Honey, I have dyscalculia as well! I totally empathize and thus I also don't play many games of Warhammer, I even purposely bought D6s with numerical numbers on them because I have issues reading dice dots. I'm also more of a painter than I am a gamer because I enjoy the creative aspect of bringing plastic to life than I do beating someone at a game. This video is AWESOME and its great hearing all sorts of quirky stories from the community! What a fantastic concept!

Re Jenner stealers, I can completely relate to that, I have a rare form of graphlexia where I was unable to read out loud as the link between the letter symbol and their pronunciation and the rules thereof was/is broken in my brain. I have learnt coping skills with age, and strangely love reading and have no problems reading to myself, caused a lot of problems for me at school though. I also really feel for you and your dyscalculia, kudos to you for facing up to it and not letting it limit you, what you do and by talking about it and thus helping others with similar problems as it is not as well known/accepted as dyslexia.

I decided after calling my world eaters the wrong thing one too many times to refer to my warband as the *Word* Eaters. Obviously the butcher's nails are technology, and without books there would be no tech, so they resolved to devour every book in existence. No thoughts, no words, only vibes. AnPrim World Eaters! It was a fun bit, it made fighting my wife's Mechanicus and the Word Bearers with all their unholy grimoires very fun

I absolutely enjoyed this and would love to see more of these kinds of videos! Also, I absolutely adore your voice and how kind you were, even with some of the more... cringe confessions.

I did not tell a girlfriend where the new game shop was locate at. She had been banned at the other shop due to trying to rush me out 2 hours into a RougeTrader event. So we did not want to her to follow us. Also I knew a Librarian was this kids newest model and was told not to kill it first. Well he happened to set it up right in front of my Havok squad and rolled 3 1's to save from the 3 lazcannon shots I shot because he left it out in the open all by itself. The kid then flipped the table, then proceeded to storm off then punch the storefront window.

On the "making up stories about your models", while putting together the Greater Possessed I made them sort of hug each other accidentally so I decided that they were boyfriends. they may reave and burn countless worlds for the Dark Gods, but they're also a lovely couple.

I ruined the hobby for myself. I love watching painting vids and making gaming vids. So I created my own painting channel! But now I feel I need to record everything I paint and it's a pain to get everything setup and dialog and lighting etc, so I just don't paint anymore. :(

I once painted a Warhammer fantasy Khorne champion with my own blood after an accident with an exacto knife. It work disturbingly good. I ain't doing it again least i become one of fulgrim's remembrancers.

My friend and I totally called The Space Crusade genesteelers, jeness-teelers! Also I let a friend borrow my set of Space Crusade in 1997 and he never returned it, and I still am a bit peeved. I rang to say when I get it back? Later in 97 and had to leave a message to get him to call me back because it was his wedding day! He rang me back when I was out, probably looking for congratulations etc. I felt so bad about the real reason I called that I never returned the call...

Every time I get high I try to explain the entire Horus heresy to my friends like every book so I’ll just spout off for an hour about a minor battle in the heresy and I’ve just been doing it for months I don’t think they care but i love it
