Perhaps a little explanation will help. More usually this would have been the opening number (but without the theatrics). On this (and a couple of other) occasion they used it to close the show. It was all about Su sacrificing herself and giving up her mortal life as a human and Idol pop star to be reborn as a metal Goddess (yeah I know, just go along with it). There were a couple of homages to Metallica in this - first the same drum rhythm as Metallica's 'One' and at the end the statue breaking apart, similar to Metallica's 'Justice For All' statue from their tour in 1989.

I think people will tell you the double meaning of DEATH by BABYMETAL. They're basically using a play-on-words with english to introduce themselves.ù People who say that BABYMETAL isn't metal need their ears and eyes checked asap. As a 32 years old metalhead who primarily listens to metalcore, this hits right where it needs to hit. Edit : and yes, this was the end of their concert, eventough they usually would start their concerts with this song as the intro. Death is sort of play with words. The title is desu (the u is a silent vocal in this) and means "i am" or "we are" ... they are pronouncing themselves in this song. Su-metal des means i am Su -Metal and so on...

This version was at the end of their show which marked Sumetal's crucifixion as a rebirth - resurrection. 1997 is Su [Suzuka] Nakamoto's real birth year. She was born 20 - 12 - 1997. The large statue looks like the Virgin Mary but it's actually of Sumetal. Her statue's collapse represented her death and renewal. It ties into the Babymetal legends which are many. Among all the explanation, maybe you must understand another curious fact Babymetal as you probably know, borns as a sub-unit of the idol group Sakura Gakuin. And idol in those groups, the boys and girls who work in idol groups have a date of expiry. My understanding is that death is the closing ceremony. That's pretty clever because obviously you can't do encores when the star of the show is dead. I think there's an opening ceremony as well but I'm not sure what it is. I love the way they so unapologetically tap into Christian iconography and ofcourse Su usually wore a crucifix when she was that age and younger.

This being a bit sacrilegious for my taste, and with Japan not being a christian nation, this for me is tough to watch. I still love BABYMETAL! I guess that KobaMetal wanted a darker side for BABYMETAL. Well, this should do it. After 5 years this is only the forth time I've watched this.
