I've always loved this song from the first time I heard it- Glad you did this beautiful live version. I'm an old prog boy from the early 70s and just love it. The best example of what is called 'Dynamic Arrangement'- different themes joined together and progressed. The album version does not include the clean intro by Kanami- simple is best. The outro theme just kills me- Genius. Loved you comments- you really see what's great in their music.

Great! My favorite version of this song. I love the build on this one with a Kanami 40 second intro where she plays in a slow, clean, almost acoustic sounding, way before the starting notes of the reg. CD song.

We hear things different 'cos the thing that struck me instantly when I first heard this song is the brilliant groove set by Misa, Miku and Akane at the start of the song.

Whoa exactly, apart from the studio version there are 3 stunning versions of Awkward, this one, the christmas acoustic and the astounding Band Maiko version

Unfair Game, Matchless GUM, Puzzle, Moratorium, Awkward - Man, what a great set of songs. Kanami's solo was four bars long. FOUR. Kanami, sweetheart, it's okay to show off A LITTLE BIT. When it's your turn, go ahead and twist the gain knob and step on your boost pedal and let 'er rip. It's okay. The spotlight is on you. MISA expects it. Akane expects it. Saiki expects it. Miku is waving her fist over her head for you. Give us sixteen bars. It's not too much. Trust us.

Love the soulful intro by Kanami. Fits this soulful song perfectly. Amazing is their stock and trade.

For me, this is the definitive version. Band-Maiko does another great version and Band-Maid did a really good acoustic version during their Christmas okyu-ji, but this is the best.

By far, this is the best version of Awkward, Po!. As for Kanami's lead, like "Puzzle," she is playing lead throughout the song. My #1 BM song but hard to find. Great reaction, sir!

This is from the famous Shinkiba Studio Coast concert from late 2017. While unfortunately only about half of the footage is still available, I think they performed better here than at the Zepp Tokyo show a few months later. When you get to the song "Play" you might like to find the one from this concert and compare it to the one from the Shibuya 2020 show (current "Official Live" version). Personally, I prefer the old performance, although I appreciate that Miku gets more of a showcase in the new one.

I think the solo section is so short (even by Kanami standards haha) in order to not stray for too long from the overall feel of the song. I think by keeping it short it allows the song to have sections which contrast with each other, but don't compete with each other. It was fun to see you really getting into it.

i have always loved how they leve a chorus and take a piece of the hard chorus into the next verse to keep building the song up the whole way through.

While looking for studio version, also check Band-Maiko version, Akasimahen, which is so different. Also acoustic version of their Christmas version is also magical if you could find it (currently only fan club member can order the CD).

You may think the first solo was a bit short, but you have to see this song in a context of what the lyrics are saying and the way the song was structured by Kanami. By the way, Kanami is a genius. The song is about two lovers who are parting ways. The narrator (female) is stating how her awkwardness toward expressing herself and didn't show her true self caused the failure of their relationship. So, with her frustration welling up and slowly exploding shows at the first solo and the speaker is in resignation but still hope for a better future and wishes all the best to her former lover as they separate (2nd solo). You can see how Kanami composed this song so that the slow boil and building up of the emotion is very apparent and the exploding emotion (at the first solo) to the 2nd solo where the emotional journey completes (with that nice backing keyboard melodies). This song is one of my favorite B-M songs. And it's a masterpiece of rock ballad. Listen to this at night while driving, it's absolutely mesmerizing. i have heard 5 versions of "awkward". this version, studio, x-mas acoustic, live acoustic with only Saiki and Kanami and Band Maiko version. all versions make it into my top 10 Band-Maid song which as of now consists of 57 songs :)

No need to look for a studio cut because anything from this 2017 Studio Coast or the 2018 ZEPP concerts will be as good or better than the studio version... plus, it's a live performance. The 2020 Shibuya concert comes close to a super high quality audio mix, but the performances and ambience puts that one over the top!
