The rappers are resonating mainly because the meaning of the word “dirty artist”. Most of these rappers were and are experiencing cyber bully. The chorus line is saying, “I want to be an artist, throw dirt on me and I ll become a dirty artist”. These lines are Mc Hotdogs way of comforting fellow rappers
They cried because MC HotDog is a pioneer of Rap in China. He became popular at a time when HipHop wasn't mainstream in China. Known as an underground, dirty artform. hence the title, 脏艺术家: translation: dirty artist. MC HotDog wants to be artist, so he beared the hate, criticism, and the doubters (metaphorically the paint used in this song) to become the "dirty artist". He carried this burden on his back, so that the HipHop artists today can be "artists", and not a "dirty artist", thats why I and the whole show and contestants cried. Because they have a career today because of MC Hotdog!!!!! Thats why this song is so emotional!
Rappers should be real and talking about the true stories, however the CCP has limited the things they can say. MC Hotdog said that it should be the younger rappers to fight for it instead of him after he performed, but iQiyi cut off this part.
The interpretation is close to correct. It is about 'real talk' and be a real artist and dirty artist (脏艺术家). Lots of Chinese rappers (also Korean rappers) have lots of restrictions about their lyrics and their artworks. They are facing various pressure when composing (from public/ government etc.) MC Hotdog in the song shows his bravery and spirit that he wants to be an artist(当艺术家), but there’s lots of criticism and pressure that make him become a ‘dirty artist (脏艺术家)’. This is very touching for all the rapper in this show since they are have similar experience in Chinese Hiphop culture.
