Doctor Who is filled with amazing quotes, but I agree, this is one for the ages.... A few years ago, my 12 year old son was helping me with the tree and he lost footing and the tree fell on him and that's what he said in this super high pitched voice... I lost it, I think I laughed for 10 minutes straight

What makes the scene funnier is this: when we’re *away* from the Christmas Tree, in the room with Rose and Ten as Jackie shouts at Mickey to get out of there before the tree gets him… *the sound is muffled,* implying the tree came with inbuilt music!

Oh, that's interesting! I'm glad they did this way. It feel like a gut punch to the feels when it just came out of nowhere at the end like that and I think that made it more impactful.

Late to the party for these reactions, but I hadn't heard this. I prefer what they did too. It was so sweet he took that moment to fully reassure her that the man she knew was still there. The original idea actually undermines the idea that the Doctors are all the same person at heart. That would have confused a lot of new viewers.

David and Matt did that, for me some doctors take a while to feel like "the Doctor" and some just pop right in from the start.

I completely agree!! :) At one point during a future episode, I even say during the reaction that I wanted them to do a Mickey spin-off. I would have NEVER guessed back in series one that I would ever say that.

Just to clarify, there was a large gap of time between when I recorded this episode (April 2022) and when it was released on KZfaq (December 2022). I started reacting to Torchwood during that gap (July 2022).

It’s interesting how they choose to introduce Tennant so slowly, only really having him appear in the second half and the first half be carried by the characters we already know in Rose, Mickey and Jackie.

Yeah, I feel like they handled it perfectly.

It’s so impressive how they manage to patch the disconnect between the audience and a new face playing the doctor so quickly, I was very young when the first series finished so my the first significant regeneration for me was tennant to smith and I loved smith so quickly, Matt smith is still my favourite doctor but I think I’ve been biased since I found out he’s from my home town

So you glad you like the spoiler notice section! :) This regeneration was a lot because it was my first and I really didn't know what to expect. Going to from 10 to 11 (while absolutely heartbreaking) was definitely easier because I already had one under my belt. I've also since gone through the transition from the first Doctor to the second in Classic Who and I do go into the first episode with the new Doctor wanting to like them. So, I think that helps.

Interesting, I never took it in a sexist way. To me, the idea that people thought she couldn't handle the weight/responsibility of the job had nothing to do with her sex and more to do with her paranoid responses after the doctor threatened her.

@@BritanyBinges Maybe it's just me, i liked Voyage of the Damned out of all the Tenth Doctor's Christmas Specials and not because of Kylie Minogue as Astrid (she's big in Australia & everywhere except the US) & because i've listened to her older songs & acting roles in the roles and yeah she was in Neighbours while i've never really watched it much, i do know of the show (considering Fremantle & Amazon Freevee is making Neighbours coming back again in the spotlight next year as one of the longest Australian drama shows of all time along with Home and Away another drama that's been around the mid to late 80s

I could see why it would seem a bit a weird, but I also have a weakness for vampire love stories and there are always extremely large age gaps in those as well. So, I guess it's just something I'm more comfortable with/used to.

Interesting, for me it's 10, 9, 11, 12, though I haven't quite finished 12 and haven't gotten to 13 yet. And, honestly, I love 11 as a character, and I think he might have been above 9 for me if RTD had been showrunner still.

I mean, I started with Eccleston, but Tennant is by far my favorite. Honestly, I think there's a lot of nostalgia bias for people that watched Classic Who first, that makes them dislike Tennant (or like him less at least). I feel like I've frequently seen the sentiment from Classic Who viewers that Tennant was too sexual/romantic/emotional or too human. For me, since I haven't seen Classic Who, I didn't have any pre-conceptions about what the doctor is "supposed" to be like. So Eccleston created that character for me, and Tennant carried it on. But honestly, I think that loving/disliking Tennant as the doctor has a lot more to do with the type of person you are, and what kind of stories you value more than anything else. For me, I fell in love with Tennant (and the Russel T Davies era) because of the emotional and character approach to storytelling. The focus was entirely on the characters and their emotional journeys and experiences, with the episode and season plots serving as tools to deliver that. post-RTD (and, as I gather, pre-RTD), the focus was more on the plot and the concepts. And for me, the character/emotion-driven approach is vastly superior. Without it, I struggle to be invested, or find as much value in the story. But that's because of who I am, because I'm a deeply emotional person, and I've always considered emotions to be perhaps the most important elements of the human experience. And Tennant just exemplified those values far beyond what any other doctor I've seen did, and puts him in a different tier for me. And then you add his incredible acting on top of that, and it's just nearly impossible to beat for me. And then there's the romantic element, which I think is one of the main contentions for people, and a reason so many like Tennant less. But to me, that's even more of the reason I love him. And again, that's because of who I am. Because to me, love is one of the most important and powerful things in life. And the way that the doctor loved Rose, and couldn't let her go, almost exactly mirrors my own values for love, and makes this story all the more valuable and beautiful in my eyes. I guess what I'm trying to say is that it's easy to assume that people are just blinded by nostalgia when they like specific doctors over others, but I really think it's just reflection of how viewers' values and personalities differ, and what kinds of stories and people they are more drawn to or captivated by.

@@peterlewis2178 I came into Doctor Who not really knowing who Tennant was and he became my favorite Doctor. I do agree about the emotional part, bc I actually loved that about his Doctor. However, even though he's my favorite, the romantic subplot was not my favorite ;)

I'm still honestly baffled about the turn of events with Harriet. I don't think Harriet is a bad person at all and it never really sat well with me how they handled that whole thing. So, I was glad when she got a little bit of redemption in The End of Time.

PK Starstrom No I disagree with that she wiped out a whole race in that ship for all we know there might had been a few innocent Sycorax beings who didn't want any part of their leaders up bringings there might had been families and children in that ship and what Harriet did was murder and makes her no better than them the Doctor had every right to be angry with her if she couldn't handle the pressure then she did not deserve to be a leader.

A lot of people feel that way I think, but I definitely side with the doctor on that. Granted, I don't entirely blame her, and I definitely don't think she deserved what she got, but I definitely think that it was wrong. The same way I think killing people in war is wrong. It's still killing, murder even. We desensitize ourselves, rationalize, say it's justified, but it's still ending a life, most of the time a life not too dissimilar from our own. And if you ever have the option to not kill, I think that's pretty much universally the moral decision.

While I don't love the nickname, I do agree the apple doesn't fall too far from the tree when it comes to flirting. lol

I see it as the opposite of insensitive. It's actually me wanting him to stop getting his heart broken over and over again by someone who very obviously wants to be with someone else. Mickey was clearly not a great boyfriend at the start and Rose was clearly not super into him even then. I mean, it took her a while to even notice an Auton was impersonating him. At this point in the show, she was fully into the Doctor and everyone could see it. He definitely did need to move on.

Think about it this way. You're in a relationship and your partner almost dies several times so you're obviously going to be extremely protective but your partner gets offended by how protective you're being and is swooning over an alien they just met less than 24 hours ago and then some more aliens kidnap you and you are literally unable to do anything about it. Then after everything is seemingly back to normal, your partner sarcastically thanks you for not helping at all (even though you couldn't) and then they run off with the alien.

It's the same actor who plays the male lead in Coyote Ugly. Adam Garcia.
