I lived through the 80s and 90s and have heard great/legendary artists, vocalists and performers in my time, but I've got to say, Mori is my all-time favorite singer/performer. I'm an American man who grew up here in the States but found Mori to be my all-time favorite from the other side of the world. Beside our love for music, we probably has nothing in common. The vocal tract sits very open, maximizing the resonating space. That's why her belts are so powerful, yet rounded (not shrill or too piercing). Superior technique. In a world of packaging and auto-tuning its stunning that an artist would allow herself to be seen in this light (warts and all). If you want a life-changing experience of Morissette (Mori), you really need to drop everything right now, turn your camera on (if you want to capture your reaction), and watch Mori do "Could You Be Messiah." There is the "engineered" version for the official video, and then there is the LIVE, one-take, version of her performing the song -- it is this latter one I suggest. Whether you are Christian or not, you will see her sincere belief expressed in this "only one take was necessary," RAW version -- if it doesn't bring tears of joy to a person's eyes I think they need to rethink their humanity.
