Eu sempre gostei da baianidade do Moraes Moreira, ele tinha um tom carnavalesco em suas músicas que era essencial, mas com letras consubstanciadas e consolidadas nos Novos Baianos. Ele nunca perdeu, mesmo através dos tempos, essa identificação cultural do início de carreira. Morreu em 2020 e deixou saudades.

Foram importantíssimos para o movimento musical brasileiro, parabéns pela escolha deste react.

Pepeu Gomes, the guitar player, is one of the best in Brazil and is pretty known abroad by many other musicians for his talent. He's been Baby Consuelo's husband for many years before they divorced. All of the solists went on with their solo career and became huge as solists. The girl Baby Consuelo that later changed her name to Baby do Brasil. This guy singing is Moraes Moreira and he is an amazing composer known by his compositions in northeastern brazilian rythms. The el guitarist is Pepeu Gomes that became a star singing too.

No Brasil teve três grandes bandas fins anos 60 e início anos 70 que são sem dúvida os mutantes,secos e molhados e os novos Bahianos que tinha o rock misturado com sons regionais e até bossa nossa nova!!! Mas na década de 70 antes do estouro do rock pop anos 80 tinha muitas bandas de rock pisicodelicos que hoje estão esquecidos qui no Brasil vou só citar três casa das maquinas,o terço e terreno baldio entre outras e mais pro rock como made in Brazil e até a Rita Lee com Tutti Frutti.

Frank esse guitarrista dos Novos Baianos se chama Pepeu Gomes. É um dos melhores guitarristas brasileiros... tem umas música mais conhecidas dele chamada "Raio Laser" e "Masculino e Feminino" que são muito legais....

That was a great version of this song Frank, but I'd suggest you to see it's version in the TV show "Ensaio" (it's all black and white, so the quality isn't the best, but it is GOLD, in fact, the hole show is GOLD), it's all acoustic...I think you will like it even more. And yes, "Pretinha" it's like a caring way to call a black woman (and your lover), means like "little black"...but it's kind of a slang.

I worked decades in the same place, once the city did several shows to celebraty the "aniversário", one of them was Moraes Moreira, and it was just across the street at 9pm... it began just minutes before the end of the dinner, and all the place was in silence and darkness, we tired and lazy waiting the time to begin the work again.. and the sound of the strings of Preta Pretinha "preencheu" that darkness and silence...it was a unique moment in decades...

Those lo-fi videos are precious treasures, but their studio versions are masterpieces! Also, I'll say it again: live versions tend to be more jazzish/rockish and less uniquely Brazilian (not only Novos Baianos').

Preta, pretinha, it is a very nice and sweet way to call girls. In North eastern people can call girls "minha preta" and even me that am incredible pale have heard it LOL

It is usually explained that suffixes like -inho and -inha are used to build the diminutive of nouns and that this diminutive would be a word that has been modified to convey a lesser degree of its original meaning, to convey the smallness of the object. But in practice, these suffixes mean more than smallness. The diminutive is also used by Brazilians to indicate affection, affection, something well done, contempt, irony... "Pretinha" is not a little black woman, but an affectionate way of calling that black woman you like. In the chorus for example, The word "só" in Portuguese, could be translated as "alone", but itsn't what the singer is trying to say. "Só" in this context, means "just", being the phrase something like "I'll just call you by "pretinha, just, just by pretinha". "pretinha" is an affectionate nickname that someone close to a woman who is of African descent can call her, something like "my little black girl". But this translation also don't represent what the sing is tring to say. In interviews granted by the singer, he explain that the word "Só" also is a nickname to "Socorro", the name of a singer's past girlfriend, for whom he wrote the song. So, the real translation is "Socorro, I will just call you by pretinha". The entire music has this kind of minutiae, and we really need to stop and study to understand it hahaha
