Actually, she did say that Russia was "right over the border" but the nearest point is the Bering Strait. The closest distance between them is 55 miles. But she did make it sound like it was "right next door."

I'm going to have to disagree, there's a lot of downside to JD Vance. He's really conservative on abortion and isn't that and election denial stuff where Republicans poll the worst?

As a Trump voter I’m very disappointed with this pick. VP should have gone to Tim Scott. This will backfire as bad or worse than Pence.

I don't mean to be rude, but you really think Trump would have picked a minority to be his VP? He used Vivek, Tim, and Byron as tokens, and tokens always get spent.

@@JKDC97 yes, I think he could have. Trump isn’t the racist that the media likes to portray him as. They never called him that before he decided to run in 2015.

I prefer Trump over Biden, and this pick is pretty disappointing. One thing that I like about Trump is that his instincts on social issues are fairly libertarian: he was once a Democrat, and he has little real interest in LGBT issues, further restricting abortion, banning porn like project 2025 suggests, etc. Vance though is very socially conservative, kind of a Christian nationalist, and this is not the direction I'd like to see the Republican party go. If in 2028 it's Vance vs Harris, then that'd be even worse options than Trump vs Biden, and I might very reluctantly prefer Harris there.
@TrentSLucas
@TrentSLucas Ай бұрын
Biden will lose in November and Harris will go away. She is hated by the party elites and America writ large. Democrats will be starting fresh in 2028 but I expect Newsom, Whitmer, and Shapiro to talk for 4 years about how running Biden a second time was stupid.
@wereoctopus
@wereoctopus Ай бұрын
His administration banned trans people from the military; I think that's more indicative of his second-term agenda than his supposed instincts or lack of real interest in LGBT issues. If he really does have libertarian-ish personal views, he's happy to set them aside for political gain and/or is easily swayed by his advisors.

Trump tries to act like a moderate but when he's running for office, definitely plays to the hardliners in the party, which is now his party. Vance has said that rape pregnancies are merely "inconveniences." And Trump has never done anything for the LGBTQ community or the black community but he likes to talk about how he's their "best friend." "Maybe better than Lincoln." So picking Vance is not out of line with his social views of the last decade. Maybe the Trump of 2000, when he briefly ran for the Libertarian nomination, he was more liberal and "very pro choice" but he isn't that person now.

I'm glad you mentioned the part about Vance being a successor. This is the part that terrifies me. Every cult needs a competent second before they solidify from an incoherent set of beliefs to a religion. Christ had Peter. Joseph Smith had Brigham Young. Caesar had Octavian. And now Trump has Vance.
