One of my favorite NY songs which to me has roots in folk and country. The lyrics are whimsical, psychedelic and personal which helps the song because they're not repeating worn out themes. NY is at his best in this genre.

This could be my favourite NY song, just float along to the harmonica and violin. I am similar to John, discovering Neil later in life and absolutely falling in love with his music. The 60s and 70s material is absolutely mesmerizing!

I was lucky enough to see him do a rare live version of this in Manchester a few years ago. No Rusty Kershaw on the violin sadly but still magic. I don't get all the references but The Riverboat was a club in Canada where he played. I believe there are references to former bandmates and not to get stuck in the past. I think the last verse references Nixon and his lies but I may be wrong. Great reactions

Rust never sleeps I think is his best album, followed by Zuma…. Great albums you should react to!

If you want to fast-forward on Neil for one album and then come back to the 70s, try Rust Never Sleeps 1979 or Freedom 1989 both of these albums Rock hard. American Stars N' Bars and Zuma are two of my favorite 70s Neil Young records that followed the Ditch Trilogy.

Great recommendations. Fun fact: rolling stone magazine gave Freedom a perfect 5 star review. I believe Rust Never Sleeps also had 5 stars.

Rust Never Sleeps was great ..saw in Heidelberg when I was stationed in Germany Freedom wasn't bad but there s better albums...Stars and Bars only had Like a Hurricane and the rest was forgettable other than the way the song before it Seguin into Hurricane fantastically

watching your reaction to these songs I've grown up with is so cool-- it's like I'm getting to experience is all again for the first time -- through YOUR eyes and ears - This is great stuff, friend. Fixing to find more of your videos. A question: what is you DON"T like it? do you listen to every song anyway? Just curious. Hi Jay, nice to see you around. Means a lot to see you enjoy the content. Regarding your question, I will tell openly if I don't like the song on the first listen, and I will still do the whole album, because I really want to hear the whole album. I rarely quit books or movies I start to read/watch. So is with the music too :) On the other hand, On the beach is my top 3 Neil Young record, so lucikly, no room for mixed feelings there :D Check out the playlists on the channel profile to find more :)

Young was only 28 when he wrote this. He was 20 when started with Buffalo Springfield. Think about everything you've listened to so far, it's all been by a 20-something. Young wrote Cortez The Killer in highschool which is hailed as a masterpiece. Please Google the meaning of Ambulance Blues because the song is very cryptic. "An ambulance can only go so fast It's easy to get buried in the past When you try to make a good thing last" I don't know if this song is Bluegrass but it definitely has a lot of Bluegrass elements.
