Handong trained with the company for six months before debuting, BUT she was in Korea studying music at college already. She had been pursuing music before auditioning for a company. People are usually referring to how she struggled with Korean early on and didn't speak much. She also didn't get much line distribution or screen time in MVs. All this prompted her decision to go on a Chinese survival show in 2019. But ever since she got back..... oh BUDDY lol confidence been at a 100. She's fluent in Korean. She's everyone's wrecker. About Handong, in the begining she didn't have much line in the song... i think it was like at max 10s that she sang. So, she was away during Dystopia Trilogy (Scream and Boca) because she was in China on a survival show for idols who was competing like produce 101 (i think, i don't really get these programs). That's why everyone talks about how she has grown. And about the song BEcause, it's a summer kpop song. In summer, kpop groups tends to release a song about summer love, cute songs and dreamcatcher release their creepy version of a summer love. The BE is writen this way cause it's a chinese caracter for sadness. So BEcause I like you can be interpreted as the reason i'm sad is because i like you.

Regarding Hongdong, as others have pointed out, she has the shortest training period among all the members. Although she does have some musical training, it is more based on classical vocals. Plus the fact she has to also adapt and learn a new language, when she debuted, she tend to have less line and also being more reserve in front of the camera and public performances. However, over the years, she grown out of her shell more and more, which is why you seen comments that she has came so far from where she first started.

Well well well... BEcause is meant to be summer song which in the Kpop industry, it is meant to be fun, cheery and bubbly .... unless the group is Dreamcatcher and it is their take on a "summer" song which is based on a Korean tradition where you tell ghost stories or visit haunted places so that you can feel the "chills" to fight the summer heat. Officially the song unravels a story of an obsession and longing for love. The capitalise BE in the title is used in context as the Hanja character 悲’ (‘BE’) as they sound alike and the word meaning sadness, and the title BEcause could be loosely translate as the cause of sadness, and paired with the line BEcause I like you or BEcause I love you, the sadness is caused by liking or loving someone. Also, the whole creepy toxic vibe is link to the choreography where there is a scene of someone choking another, and the lyrics about "forever mine, even your breath" and then "your face blue...like an ocean view" kind of reflect someone being strangled until the fact turns blue etc. Also, you are right which the MV plot theme has another layer that officially borrowed quite a bit of plot elements from Jordan Peele "Us" regarding the doppelgangers. There are a lot of details in the MV that point to this such as the movie "Us" also has scenes depicting a hall of mirror, someone being captured and replaced, the carnival; similarly the choreography also uses the movie themes such as the doppelgangers holding hand in a chain, the slight side to side head tilts, ending pose of the center member which two hand on her face, mirrored choreography etc.. There are also a few easter eggs for the doppelgangers concept such as the MV is 3:13 minute long (coincidence? I think not) , and that the opening scene and ending scene has the members in completely different outfits (with the ending outfit more whimsical), as well as the completely drain symmetrical hourglass at the end indicating that at some point, the doppelgangers replaced their original counterpart. More impressively, musicality, it plays into the theme of opposite doppelgangers where there is a two part chorus (whimsical and cute, and a more rock follow up) and two part bridge (soft vocals followed up by a deep spoken rap with atmospherically vocals behind) trying to show this mirror duality. Also, I love the Pyscho volin homage during the rap part of the song.

The unnie line, JiU SuA Siyeon, have a combined 13.5 years of training before they debuted. Handong, Yoohyeon, Dami, Gahyeon have a combined 4 years of training. Handong and Gahyeon got six months between the disbandment of Minx and debut of Dreamcatcher. Handong was also surrounded by strangers in a foreign country struggling with a new language (where her name means "poop" if she accidentally says the D too strongly). She was so reserved and always hiding under the brim of a baseball cap she quickly got the nickname Ice Princess. But once she felt comfortable that members, the company, and Insomnia would accept her real self she is the complete opposite of anyone you'd call an ice princess.

In Korean culture they like to tell scary stories in the summer because it is believed they will give you chills and cool you down so it's only fitting for Dreamcatcher to come out with a love story where they're being loved to death for their Summer Holiday album 😈 Yes creepy is accurate!

this was fast lol,but understandable.. it's my personal suggestion but i think u should check their recent b-sides too that have performance/special clip before going all the way back,just for a taste lol,if u down for that i suggest -Demian Special Clip -Propose Showcase Performance -Shatter Special Clip -2 Rings Showcase Performance Any choice should be fine,this is b-sides from their last 3 albums,but if u want to keep doing Title Tracks its completely fine too. dreamcatcher \:D/ the visuals were inspired by the movie us, among other things. the simple one sentence summary of the song is that it's about toxic love. you can stop there but if you want to dive deeper, here goes lol. you will notice a recurring them as well as imagery in a lot of dreamcatcher songs/videos, one of self determination because it mirrors their own story. many dreamcatcher mvs will have mirrors and/or duplicates of themselves to portray self conflict. in other words darker side trying to tempt you into selling yourself out. that's where the movie us imagery comes in with the dopplegangers. you can also see it in the bridge where an image of sua in a broken mirror hands the real sua an apple, or a symbol of temptation. you mentioned you knew about 5 of the members being in another group called minx. minx did stereotypical bubblegum kpop common with girl groups during their era. being from a small company with limited resources, they couldn't really stand out and ultimately failed. their ceo did what is really unheard of in kpop where you hear a lot about the dark side of the industry. he gave failure a second chance because he believed the girls could pull off any concept and genre. so with their second chance, they would make music their way even if it involved using a genre that was disliked and almost taboo in korea. while they never got anywhere in korea, they slowly accumulated a decent international fanbase that kept they going to the point korea was hearing about them from internationally and didn't even know who they were lol. so that's why a lot of their songs have recurring themes of not giving up and staying true to yourself. this is basically what the nightmare series is about - being trapped in a world where everyone is trying to change to to be what they want/expect.

I'm enjoying their new music, but I miss "creepy" Dreamcatcher.

About HanDong, yeah it's true. She's one of the shortest trainee period. In early DC days, she almost continuously has less than 10% of the line on the title track. But, I think that's not based on her skills. Even Gahyeon has a similar situation in their early title track. For a better understanding, their B-sides give more "justice" in line distribution. But it's really reasonable for that time. Their company is in such a rush and a huge gamble. On the financial aspect, Minx was not doing a good job. As a small company that really needs to make money, efficiency is the priority. Members with more experience and clear direction are the best option to get the job done on live stages and promotions. Some fans would think that the company gives a bad treat. But, the reality is there. They need money ASAP. More experience means a bigger guarantee.
