I think the dark typing is there to protect Tristan from Prankster; in theory, the only real weakness of Tristan’s awful priority spam (assuming its moves don’t all have a priority bracket above Fake Out) is another Pokémon that can hit it with priority status, off of a base speed that is most likely higher than 5

i did not think of that, the fact that prankster does not work with a dark type does make a lot of sense

Honestly took the typing as “dark humor” when it was dark type.

I think the dark type is less of a meta pick and more of a thematic one, as you’ve probably heard the dark type in Japanese is the evil type and it comes with a lot of moves designed to be annoying like taunt and embargo as such it’s the perfect fit for a Pokémon designed to be as annoying as possible

👀 wow and I was just thinking about weakness and strengths on the Pokémon side never even thought of the fact that dark is considered evil

the dark typing i like to think is there simply for astetic reasons. the usefulness and defensiveness of the typing doesnt matter when the oponent never gets to attack anyways. how many times do you think your attack will land when your paralyzed, frozen, infatuated, + more and -6 acuracy. defensiveness doesnt matter if your oponent cant do anything
