The intent here is as follows: Mariah was lost in a sea of despair (shipwrecked). Her marriage was ending, and she was dealing with an abusive relationship - and this guy (standing on the lighthouse) was her guiding light that guided her safely to shore

She writes all of her own lyrics as well as comes up with the melody then produces her own vocals

I love the second verse. "Baby can you feel me Imagining I'm looking in your eyes I can see you clearly Vividly emblazoned in my mind" Mariah is a brilliant songwriter!!!! The song is written about Derek Jeter!!
